Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

Ideally for me - assuming there are ~10 new characters - they'll reveal two more newcomers (Mii and Pac-Man) and leave the rest as mysteries. That means the starting roster will have five newcomers (Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Rosalina, Little Mac, Mii) and five will be left unlockable (Mega Man, Pac-Man, ???, ???, ???).

And then, you know, about 10 other unlockables. Sonic and Snake, naturally. Wolf, Lucas, Ganondorf, Ike, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, R.O.B., and Game & Watch, if I were to put together a list - those are the guys who "feel" like unlockables to me. Fan favorites, additional series characters, comeback surprises, you know.

...I'm really hoping there's a worldwide release so I can at least have a chance at being surprised. :(

Bonus narrative:

I would only buy Metroid Wii U if it was bundled with the system and came with a price cut of my choice.

Pikmin 3 looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.
The Wonderful 101 looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.
Super Mario 3D World looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.
Mario Kart 8 looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.
Super Smash Bros looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.
Bayonetta 2 looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.
X looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.
Metroid Dread looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.

I'm aware these are probably all posted by different people.

Expect "Just unlocked RIDLEY in Smash Bros!!" threads to pop up and ruin your day.

I remember a thread on Smashboards where someone had just unlocked Sonic in Brawl and had no idea that he was in the game. This was at least a few months after Brawl came out, mind you.

The best part was when someone joked that you could also unlock Samuel L. Jackson, and then the OP made another thread asking how to unlock him.

While we're on the subject of new character reveals, I'd like Sakurai to leverage Fire Emblem's sword/axe/spear triangle into a new-rep. Essentially the character wouldn't be tied down to just a sword, but would have the ability to change his equipment on the fly.

Sword - Average speed and range. Good for mid-range combat. Used to guard against fast characters.
Axe - Slow speed and short range, but extremely powerful. Used to take down heavy brawler characters.
Spear - Would be a Javelin or a Short Spear. Significant throwing range would allow for zoning for other sword characters.

On top of that you'd have a light durability system, so that you can't just spam the spear or over-use the sword as you would either run-out or your weapon would temporarily break. The game would force you to switch around the different fighting 'stances'.

Just a thought I've had ever since I saw the KO meter for Little Mac. Since Sakurai essentially opened the door for more 'meta' characters.

That sounds like the stamina mechanic that plagued Pokemon Trainer in Brawl.

Too bad there won't be a Skyward Sword Link with stamina.

I will be getting all these plus HD Wind Waker after E3. I am hoping for a Wii U Smash Bundle. The fact that I only really played Wii Sports and Brawl on the Wii means I have an even larger catalog to dive into. I. am. Excited.

SmashGAF, don't lie to yourself, this is what's going to happen.
RIDLEY IS UNLOCKABLE IN SUPER SMASH BROS 4!

LOL wish I would have seen these threads.

Question for you guys. Would you like save data from other games to unlock stuff earlier than the Smash game requires? For example, in Mario Kart Wii if you had Super Mario Galaxy saved data you unlocked Rosalina earlier rather than completing the Mario Kart Wii requirements.

The only way to unlock Wonder Red is to have Wonderful 101 save data.

W101 sells 2 million units overnight and a sequel is greenlit.

I think it would be much more feasible to have different weapons assigned to different attacks. If the ability to switch weapons were given, then 3 movesets would have to be created.
I'd love to see a fire emblem character that's either a mounted fighter, or a chrom lucina duo and give buffs when both their attacks connect, like in awakening.

You say this now, but I'm actually surprised that I was able to pull it off for Super Mario Galaxy when it was first coming around. Admittedly, I was kinda waning in Mario love after Sunshine and didn't follow up on it at all until I got my Wii like a month after Brawl dropped, but damn man, I don't know if I'll ever be able to pull something like that off again AND get treated to such an 11/10 experience.

I actually totally avoided spoilers for Skyward Sword and Pokemon XY (which was leaked weeks before launch).

However, that night in January 2008 where the Brawl leaks started coming out of Japan in the form of screenshots of the CSS and 30 second videos was MAGIC. Never have I f5'd so hard in my life.

I don't know if I'd be able to resist for Smash 4.

LOL

I think my first moment of true palpable over hype came when they started doing the Japanese commercials ending with or highlighting each Final Smash. When I saw the one with Ike going all RULES OF NATURE to the horn section of the main theme, I just reduced to a puddle of "need this game now".

Spoilers and the like are the main reason why I sincerely hope that Smash 4 pulls off a worldwide release like Pokemon XY did. I would have liked to go into Brawl as blindly as possible, but since it came out so much earlier in Japan I couldn't help but spoil the roster... and accidentally spoil the Big Twist of the SSE as well, which was a bummer.

If Smash pulls off a worldwide release I will be ecstatic and will go into it as blindly as possible. Otherwise... well, I probably won't even try keeping the roster secret since I know it will be nigh-impossible outside of just not using the internet.

I was super lucky to be holidaying in Japan the day of Brawl's release and staying with my nerdy former host brother. We searched through ~8 stores in Osaka for the game before finally finding a copy and went back to the house and played. I hadn't really followed the game pre-release so I was in awe at all the new stuff and characters. My brother back home was super mad and made me swear I would not share with him any information about it haha.

Nice!

I've never played either Golden Sun or Advance Wars, so the GBA VC has me excited. Maybe then I'll join the group of people asking for newcomers from those series! At the very least, the character designs of Advance Wars are cool.

You know what I just realized. We haven't seen any pics of items/assist trophies on the 3DS version. Makes me wonder if we're getting different items and ATs for that version.

If ridley is in I hope they reveal him before release so I can breathe

Agreed. He seems like secret character material but I'm waiting on pins and needles, I want to see him now. I think the only thing that can almost match a playable Ridley is the salt that will come from the die hard haters who believe not even god himself could make Ridley playable and "look right."
