Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

This fight really is ridiculous. Pulled it off on my first char after about 20 attempts, and, here I am, again, but probably on my 40th try.

who mentioned something about a a great shield that blocks magic a few pages back ?

I tried to find post but its buried. What shield was it ? sick of these magic punks.

I had no idea how bad pvp was either.

Starting a dual wield dex build character but slowly progressed into wanting faster weapons. Now I'm dual wielding daggers. It's... fun? Kind of frustrating though. I mean as far as accessibility to certain daggers and whatnot. And I'm not sure which infusion I want and so on. Also very important is that you actually can't find a second regular dagger weapon made for dex until much later into the game (if you didn't start as a Sorcerer or Explorer). Makes me sad.

I really hate to admit this buuut...
The Old Iron King
is kicking my ass! I have died quite a few times just falling into lava, and the other times he nails me when I'm dodging (a few times it looked like I was clear but still registered as a hit). I really don't know why I'm struggling with this fight! Not even the
The Sinner or Smelter Demon
gave me this much trouble....granted I summoned Lucatiel to be a diversion both times.

Ive done it twice with both a melee and a mage solo...I park myself on the far side, bait an attack, move coast to coast, rinse and repeat. Melee Chick Xienfeng, Twin brother Dark Hex MAge Xienfang.

Just finished my maiden run with quite the beastly STR build at SL150.

Needless to say: Incredible game.

I've got 4 Soul Vessels, so I'm contemplating doing NG+ with a build at the complete opposite end of the spectrum. I was thinking of dual-wielding the Blacksteel and another katana; shield when needed.

Thoughts on that setup?

Cheers, Gaf.
I am running with a dex character but still on my first go only half way through...slowly taking my time. I find the blacksteel katana too heavy. The berserker blade is 2 weights lighter and does more damage, the uchi is way light and has less requirements for dual wielding, and there apparently is a katana in the undead crypt that evades shields. I would roll with any of the others beside blacksteel...if you dont mid the weight the washing pole seems like the king of katanas this time around , but i havent got there yet.

TBH I love my rickards rapier (S bonus) and dual wielding curved swords is fun as well.

Weird timing but, I've just beat
Darklurker
. Kinda curious why people have been having a hard time with him. He seemed pretty easy to me.

So I just beat the
The Lost Sinner

What should I do next?

Also, any tips on
the tower with gargoyles? I just keep getting invaded by phantoms, rushing up the stairs to the boss and then just getting my ass handed to me by them.

Well, at this point, there's no real reason to kill em as they only help the fight you just completed.

Man strike and thrust weapons seem to be really powerful in this game compared to regular slash weapons. My +5 rapier seems to do quite a bit more damage compared to my +5 falchion, despite the falchion having a higher based damage and scale damage for me. I think rapiers are suppose to do more damage against armored foes (judging by the item description) but even against non-armored foes (from what I've tested out), the rapier just does more damage. Dual Wielding the rapiers and using the power stance L2 attack just destroys bosses.

You could try joining the Bell Keeper covenant and wearing the ring so that you have a chance to be the invader, then win or lose, you drop back into your world where you left and can continue to run to the boss. At least, that's what I did.

I already joined the Blue Sentinels though (which seems pretty pointless now).

Ugh, I summoned peeps for the last boss and they just wrecked it with spells and shit and I didn't get to do anything >:/

The Bell Keepers are the ones invading you, so I'm saying you join that covenant just for the purpose of running the Gargoyle boss. If you're having a hard time with the PvP, it will at least help you get to the fog door a little easier because if you are summoned and die, you drop back into your own world where you left so you don't have to start back at the bonfire.

Hmm, I might have to do this. Is there a penalty at all for leaving one covenant for another?

If you really can't make it to the boss fog before getting invaded for whatever reason, just open the gate and then play offline until you beat the boss?

That place usually has all the high level players (Sunbros grinding for medals), so that shouldn't have been a surprise. I did the same thing. The Firestorm spell completely wrecks the boss.
How much points to put in VIT?

Im a STR/DEX build
It mostly helps with the equip load so it depends on your gear. 20 + Royal Soldier's Ring should be enough.

That really depends on the armor you want to wear. Uee as much as you need to stay under 70% (ideally under 50%) with the equip you want, or just wear lighter armor.

Planning to wear the Havels armor......or the one from the cover. Faam or something like that.

So in addition to my Dex dual wield being complete, I just finished the last boss with my Sorcerer/Pyro character. Last boss is so much easier with powerful range options, lol.

Thinking of doing a dual wield Strength build or Hex build next. Haven't decided on dual large clubs or ultra greatswords yet.

Dual rapiers powerstance in PvP can do 400-500 dmg which may not seem a lot but its quick has a long reach, very quick recover and can be followed with more hits. With Leo Ring it can do up to 1000 dmg.

Threads slipped to the second page, you're slacking sunbros!

Beat
Sinner
on NG+ What a complete asshole. Wasn't expecting 2 pyromancers to drop in, took me 4 tries. Hardest boss i've fought so far.

NG+ is so quick when you know you don't really need to explore anymore. proceeded to destroy
Iron king and the rotten
within the next hour.

Lucatiel died on the
sinner
but i wouldn't of been able to do it without here. that bitch is so fast. She don't let up on you.

Kept her alive first time on
Smelter demon
and
Rotten
So that trophys in the bag when i get to a certain spot later.

Got my master of hexs trophy too. The other 2 wont come until ng++ But the platinum is in sight.

I infused my mastadon halberd +10 with fire and its at a whopping 680 damage lol
I then cast flame weapon on top of that. I don't know if that makes a difference but i was 2 shotting those turtle back dudes in the iron keep.

Getting real tired of your shit,
Darklurker
.

This fight requires too much luck :/ I'm able to do good damage to him (300-400 range) but
once he splits in two
the fight just becomes random.

This is also the last boss I have in the game too.

On another note, I got the Ring of Blades +2. Had to beat the final boss first to get it.

I haven't tried it much in PvP yet but the rapiers are pretty freaking good so far in PvE. So I definitely can't wait to try it out more against phantoms.

Edit:
which rapier do you like the most? ricard's?

Last time I tried out the ricard rapier, I wasn't a big fan of it. The R2 attack destroys the durability way too fast for my liking. I hear the attack can be useful if you enchant the weapon with poison or bleed but I haven't tried it. I'm not sure how the weapon is dual wielded/powerstanced though.

Where is that, im still stuck with a +1.
Im looking at 700 damage with my halberd if i can get that.

Respec to pyromancy if your having that much trouble and then flame swathe his shitty ass.

Beat the
Covetous Demon
last night and that may be the single easiest boss i ever face in any game in the last 2-3 years that i can remember.

I just went in and hacked it a few times and thought, any minute now he is gonna smash me but he never did.

Are the boss souls worth using for any weapons? or shall i just absorb them to use to improve my stats?

Just use the ones that are needed for spells. you may as well absorb the rest. all the boss weapons are all show and no go.

I killed him on NG+ with one chaos storm. Might as well have been a normal enemy.

Like Footos22 said, try Flame Swathe, and I hear Firestorm is also deadly
when he splits.

Leaves you open, if it somehow misses you are screwed, throw some great fireballs, and flame swathes. try to keep the flame swathes till last as when he splits the aoe will hit both for mega damage I killed him just as he split. That's the moment i realised Pyromancy is flat out broken and will more then likely get nerfed.

Is infusion worth it if I have a quality build? If yes, should I first upgrade to +10 and then infuse or how should I do it?

Doesn't matter the order you do it.

As for imbuing you could always experiment, nothing you do to a weapon imbue wise is permenant.

edit

I found imbuing did more damage on a B/S sword with 21/40 than not imbuing. Also you can still cast buff spells on imbued weapons, guess you couldn't in Dark Souls?
