Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

So my third runthrough I'm going as a dual-wielder with Covenant of Champions running, and it seems like my weapons degrade much faster than if I wasn't taking hard mode. Am I crazy?

Doesn't matter the order you do it.

As for imbuing you could always experiment, nothing you do to a weapon imbue wise is permenant.

edit

I found imbuing did more damage on a B/S sword with 21/40 than not imbuing. Also you can still cast buff spells on imbued weapons, guess you couldn't in Dark Souls?

So generally speaking Elemental imbuing does more damage than weapon scaling alone? How many points should I invest in INT or FTH to see a difference?

Not necessarily.
If you are quality then its gonna depend on the weapon you use.
Imbuing pretty much always lowers the scaling rank.

As i'm mainly strength/ faith both at 40 my mastadon halberd lost a shit ton of base damage and dropped from an a scaling in strength to a B but Flame went from nothing to a B rank. with the scaling from my character added on to that i jumped up weapon damage by about 150 odd. compared to unimbued.
With my faith my fire damage upped by 280 something. which countered the loss in scaling and surpassed it. if you don't have any int or faith input then i wouldn't even bother. Youd be better off just using powder on your weapons.

I could always respec and invest in INT or FTH, that's why I wanted to know what scaling is generally better, elemental or weapon. Is there no way to know before trying? I don't want to respec and then find out that I do less damage.

You can see when you hover over the imbued options what the scaling rank drops down too or gains in the elemental department.

and can see how much damage is added and taken away on the right side of the screen. Is up to you to do the maths. You still add on character stats after though.

i wouldn't bother respecing personally unless you are gonna want to be using spells as well.

I have 3 int and 8 faith and it still did more damage.

The base was 400. When I imbued it lowered to 392 but gained 167 lightning damage. Even with the lower scaling, I'm still doing more.

When you go to imbue it'll show the flat damage changes. If higher or the same than your current base+bonus then you should imbue.

What weapon are you using for it to lower by just 8 points in base damage?
Surely that is broken?

So uhh, I killed S
melter
D
emon
with a sunbro and I summoned Lucatiel but she never entered the boss arena! I could see her lifebar though and she just disappeared after the fight. Will this count as a victory or no? I'm trying to get that Lucatiel achievement.

On my Murakumo +10 (A dex scaling) and my Curved Dragon Greatsword (S dex scaling), imbuing with fire or lightning still increased the pure damage rating by about 100 in spite of dropping the dex scaling in spite of my 40 points in dex.

Imbuing seems the way to go to me.

Yep

Hmm so basically the weapon scaling is absolutely pointless in this game? Just get enough of a stat to use it and the imbue away.

Time for a respec I think.

I'm doing fine and doing big damage but seems silly for me to bother putting 40 in strength as well as faith. I could put that in endurance to get more hits off.

So yesterday a host banished me after he had summoned me, perhaps because I put the Buster Blade on. Is there no penalty to banish and it's not limited?

Yeah I noticed that sometimes when I put a point in STR the damage only goes up by a point.

Where is that, im still stuck with a +1.
Im looking at 700 damage with my halberd if i can get that.

Respec to pyromancy if your having that much trouble and then flame swathe his shitty ass.

You need to beat the final boss, then go to
Drangleic Castle
and use a Bonfire Ascetic on the King's Gate bonfire. Or just be on NG+. Go to
the throne room near the entrance of the castle and two (!) Pursuers will pop up
.
If you let one curse you though, the other will disappear.
So just let one of them do that then try to kill the one
Pursuer
. He'll probably drop a Twinkling Titanite. Just go back to the bonfire and come back
and the other Pursuer will spawn by himself
. Defeat him to get RoB +2.

Like Footos22 said, try Flame Swathe, and I hear Firestorm is also deadly
when he splits.

I'd have to respec...for now I'll keep trying melee. I can get more Effigies from the skeletons in Majula mansion (one more is added each time you use an Ascetic).

Ugh, I summoned peeps for the last boss and they just wrecked it with spells and shit and I didn't get to do anything >:/

That's why ideally you want to clear the game at least once before summoning anybody.
I would feel so robbed if I had other people do all the work for me in this game.

Still on NG and I have yet to kill the Ancient Dragon. It seems like the people I summon don't understand the fight even though they drop their signs right outside the damn door. Like, you know he's probably going to breathe fire, so hold up, ESPECIALLY if I tell you VERBALLY with my mic!

Cool thanks. I'm nearly back at the castle now.

Don't need to respec. Wear a ring that gives you a slot or two and just stack Flame Swathe. Upgrade your pyro hand to +10 with all the seeds I'm sure you have gotten as well. If you get them with it right when they are splitting you may not need another.

Cheesing it like this is a night and day difference in difficulty, but since you were willing to use sneaky tactics on the
Pursuers
it doesn't seem like that would bother much. :3

So there's no penalty to banish a white phantom and you can do it as many times as you want?
Another thing, I read something about a shortcut to
Undead Purgatory
involving a tree but I can't find it.

I finished the game at around 61 hours.

Found it underwhelming and not very rewarding at the end.

Game layout feels very rushed, anyone else feel the same?

How much points to put in VIT?
Im a STR/DEX build

it is not necessary, but I run at the lowest percentage possible. i am in mid game now and I still have my character under 20%, most of the time, especially for PVP or bosses. You can add VIT based on that target, but if you must have certain heavy gear, than you will wan to raise it up. Low Equip burden seems to make your rolls longer so you can get behind people/things for backstabs. Mixed with high agility (over 100) you can move pretty quick.

three of my favourite boss battles using fast roll:
Pursuer
Sentinels
Old Iron King

Yeah, there's not a ton of of benefit from putting any points in to any stat past 20 as far as I can tell, outside of hitting any weapon or spell requirements you might want. By the time you're level 125ish it seems like you could easily be a jack of all trades with all stats within 5 levels of each other, and still not really be giving up anything notable.

At level 127 you could have 25 in STR, DEX, INT, FTH and 20 in VIG, END, VIT, ATN and be pretty reasonably strong in all respects.

Guys, I see some of you wrinting about scaling S or A........I have only weapons that go up to B.
Do I need to find weapons that scale with S or does this happen after I upgrade them?

You can find weapons with A or S scaling, but some weapons will move up a rank or two when upgrading.

I would love to see Dual Ricard's in Powerstance. Someone get on that!

Rickards requires so many stats to dual wield and I am only half way through the NG. I have tried regular rapiers though, and it is as God tier as you think it would be...I just haven't upgraded them and actually tried them on bosses etc. Two rickards in NG+ would be pretty raunch.

Wouldnt imbuing with mundane be the best option then for a jack of all trades.

Most of my stats are at 20 the only one ive never touched is int. strength and faith are at 40 and endurance at 30 although those 10 levels in that was a massive waste.

i definately gonna need to respec i think. got wasted points in everything mainly adp

So can anyone tell me if any of the ultra greatswords have a regular / thrust moveset like the greatsword?

The only "Thrust" that an ultra greatsword has is a really slow one that is no way as good as the greatswords one. Several of them have it, zwelhander I believe is one of the ones that has it, but like I said, it isn't that good.

Oh OK then.

Got one Blacksteel Katana! Didn't realise it had the same move set as the Iaito, one of my favourite Souls weapons! Marvellous stuff. I want another but I'm running out of Knights... Eep.

The respec screen actually gives you some pretty good feedback as to what's changing, so you can gauge like the amount of damage lost with your current weapon vs the amount of other stats up. I like to think of it more as percentages than hard numbers, so you can think about things like if it's worth losing 5-10% damage for the ability to become a decent caster of most spells.

Took me just under 7 hours but I beat the first boss, some of that time was taking a detour to find the ring of binding but still progress! Now if someone could tell me where my torches go in my inventory/how to use them that would be great.

they don't show up in your inventory, rather, there's a timer of how much torch time you have left. The torch can be lit from bonfires or other lightsources. Go near them and a "press X to light Torch" prompt will appear. You might have to cycle the message with triangle if it's a bonfire.

Wow, you are in for a long ride. lol
Torches can be activated by pressing triangle/Y at a bonfire.
or by using a flame butterfly.

You have to light them at a bonfire or other light source. The light them at a bonfire you will probably need to press triangle to toggle "rest at bonfire" to "light torch." If you are out in the game away from a light source you can use a flame butterfly to light the torch. When they are lit you will have a time indicating how much torch time in left. Each torch you find adds to this time.

They get added automatically to that timer below where you equip your rings. At any bonfire and most sconces along the way you can re-light your torch and it's timer will slowly dwindle.

Thanks for the quick responses everyone, and yeah this is gonna be a long one for me but I all ready feel like I have made more progress than I ever did with the previous games.

I got the platinum trophy yesterday :D

Feels good to be "finished" with the game. I've been playing it a lot during the last two weeks. Now i can take a rest from it. Here is my character build when i got the platinum trophy:

After this picture was taken, i upgraded my END one time, so that is at level 41 now.

I wonder why so many people wait for additional summons for easy bosses like the
Demon of Song
... I would have already got my 30 medals otherwise D:

Just out of curiosity, were you finding any Summons or Invasions at Lvl 200+?

How is putting point in endurance a waste ?

I feel that the Lost Bastille~Sinner's Rise are the peak of the game.

Most people tend to think the best stuff comes toward the end of the game.Which I don't really agree with.

Forest of the fallen giants is really well designed but underwhelming graphically.

I'm fine with that I'm getting a claymore latter anyway. So the zweihander's move set has changed since the first?

In the first just the great sword had the regular / thrust moveset in the ultra greatsword category.

I got the lucatiel trophy yesterday. That bonfire ascetic trick is a godsend for this trophy. Way easier, even on NG+. Next up: trying to get all spells/miracles/etc.

Also got the guide in. What a beast! They really went all out with that thing.
