Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

CUCCCCOOO!!

I agree, flat stage are boring.
I loved Brinstar, Pokéfloats, Peach's Castle, Onetts, etc.. so I'd say Melee had better stage.
But Brawl had New Pork City and 75m <3

New Pork City was bad though. It was just random platforms spread around the level, rather than actually taking place in the city. The distribution of the platforms also made it much less fun than Temple if you wanted an oversized stage.

I think in the end I still prefer Brawl's stages though. Delfino Plazza, Great Sea, Spear Pillar, WarioWare, Fire Emblem, etc. The Brawl stages that were done right in general seemed better than their Melee counterparts to me, they just had more to them, in spite of a few disappointing ones (New Pork City, Jungle Falls, 75m, Electro Plankton, Animal Crossing).

So Lumiose City stage is very similar to Delfino Plaza, so I bet that it will be fun stage.

It sounds more like Poke Floats, considering the description about not being left behind, but I guess it could be an exaggeration.

Whoa. I understand New Pork City, Jungle Falls, 75m and Electro Plankton. But what reason do you have to dislike the Animal Crossing stage?

CUCCCCOOO!!

By that image, I think it's clear think Nintendo fell into the trap of darker and more realistic = better for Twilight Princess - the Twilight Princess Cucco looks awful and if there wasn't a lineup comparing them, you could have trouble even identifying it was a Cucco in the first place.

True, I guess I'm blinded by my fanboy love of Mother 3.

Now reveal Lucas, Sakurai please.

I'd have to admit that New Pork City was too big, though.

Edit : Damn, I'm the only one who liked it :(

Perhaps Sakurai will let you choose Ridley, but only if you're playing in NPC.

Seriously, I'll say I liked the music and theme, but it was ridiculously empty and with blast zones that were too far away from where the action would take place. It was like the Hytule Temple's battle zone, only even larger.

With stages, I'd say I'm fine with having a few Battlefields, and Mute City was genuinely good, but I like other stages more, such as Planet Zebes, Hyrule Castle and even Saffron City from the first game, and Corneria from Melee. I also like some of the more gimmicky stages like Smash64's Mushroom Kingdom, Fourside (cool concept, but some characters getting walljumps while others didn't made the stage unbalanced) or PokéFloats (the lack of ledges severly hurts characters with bad recoveries).

I'm also fond of Big Blue, if only for the kick-ass Mach Rider music.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought Melee's stages were mostly better.

Brawl had too many stages that were no fun to play in and just served as fan service to their respective franchises..

And the less floating platforms the better.

3 pics detailing a 3DS stage based on pokemon !

Good update =D

Also, this makes me think .....

If the game has Download Play, which 2 characters you should be able to choose when playing by download play ?

I was thinking something along the lines of Mario and Kirby ... what you guys think ?

Actually, I hope that when it comes to stages or any other content that doesn't affect the balancing of the game, as much as possible is included from the older games.

Give me All Stages from past games to choose from, give me the level editor, hopefully with touchscreen support, give me all the legacy single player missions, even boss battle mode and subspace emissary if you can fit them.

Just dump that stuff on the disc and upscale it to 1080p, if it's possible to port over easily and doesn't break when played with the new characters/changes to old ones.

I wish Nintendo did this with games like Mario Kart and F-Zero too, instead of offering a small selection of older tracks and stages. It would really up the value of each new edition in a series without requiring creation of additional new content.

Pic of the day. Here's the Prism Tower stage for the 3DS version! The battle begins on ground level right in front of the tower.

You'll have to climb the tower by securing footholds like these moving platforms!

By the time you reach the top, the sun is already setting. The view from up there is quite a treat.

So very similar to Delfino Plaza after all, nice update. Also, nice to see Pikmin in the 3DS version

I wish that we could get best of the best stages from 64, Melee and Brawl to be in Smash 4.

PokeFloat, WarioWare Inc, Summit, Lylat Cruise, Big Blue, Corneria, Onett, Brinstar Depths, Jungle Japes, The Temple, Pirate Ship, Spear Pillar, PictoChat, Norfair, Yoshi's Island, Dream Land, Hyrule Castle, Princess Peach's Castle, Flatzone, etc.

I don't really expect to see any of those stages in the game anyway, and I really hope that Sakurai and the teams would add more variable in the stages. I'm disappointed that we didn't even get any new version of Brinstar Depths for Brawl.

AW YEAH 3DS PIKMIN

Me too. <3

The doors and windows are a distance into the background. Of course they look smaller.

Onett and Fourside had disproportionate doors too. I remember as a kid comparing sizes with the characters, lol.

In the street.

In a city.

can I get an SA2 san fran stage please. In this and in the next sanic racing.

You said neighborhood though, which Onett is.

I know this is supposed to be a joke, but considering how much Sakurai has been stalling, you start to wonder. Do we really need three updates for one stage?
Stalling?

Considering we knew basically nothing about the stage before this update, yes, we need 3 updates for one stage.

I don't see why people are complaining about lacking of character reveals, when we got good amount of informations based on the game.

Also it would be hilarious if Nintendo decided to release Nintendo Direct on April 1.

Perhaps Sakurai just, you know, didn't feel like showing off a character this month.

*GASP* OH! ARE YOU SAYING THAT SAKURAI HATE MARCH!?

March's refocus on majority other aspects of the game than just characters/reveals was refreshing and a good way of slowing or changing the pace imo.

If he had spread the three pics of this stage today over three consecutive days, I'd be annoyed. As is, I think he's only spent two days total on it? If it's three forgive me.

I don't think we should be alarmed. Sakurai just does what he wants whenever. We've gone more than a month with no veteran before. Some characters are probably being saved for post-release and others are holding off until Directs, or E3, or whatever. I don't think there's any big science that goes into when to post veterans.

If they can't even show one veteran per month, I fear that the game isn't even close to coming out.
So was the game close to coming out four months ago when they were showing a veteran per month? Maybe it was delayed but they just didn't tell us?

For the record, Brawl sometimes revealed multiple newcomers (up to 3 I believe) in a month on the Dojo, then slowed down character reveals before release.

Also, I'm sure E3 will reveal multiple characters, veterans and newcomers alike.

There are people still treating Sakurai Miiverse post as news?
I mean, the Mario 3D Land post was basically a DOJO post, and this Lumiose one would come pretty close, you just need to combine it with the picture from a little while ago.

It's possible that we still receive few reveals like Direct and Mario Kart 8. At long they are showing us new things about Smash like this week then I'm constant with the update pace.
Even if we don't get a Smash reveal in the next direct, it still shows us what Nintendo considers important. I think the only international direct since E3 that didn't have a Smash character reveal was the one where they revealed Rosalina was in 3D World, and we know how that worked out haha.
