Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

You just gotta learn his patterns.
He's the boss that you learn it's best to roll into the attacks (across the swipes) to dodge them and then it's easy. You can also try strafe around him and just take 1 or 2 hits during the window's and keep strafing..

I actually had a harder time with that boss with
Lucatiel summoned because she would just die too fast...

I almost had it but ended up summoning 1 person in to help, The summon sign was yellow instead of white not sure what that was about but we managed to take him down (finally).

The other players ranged magic attacks seem to come in handy, My character's only ranged attack is various +6 Pyromancy spells which wasn't much help for this particular encounter, but I got in some decent slices with my Halberd.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Yes suck my dick ancient dragon i beat you! I did it by using flash sweat so i was able to survive when i couldn't run fast enough, the rest of the fight i used the "stay near his rear paws" method which only worked half the time but i made it work so happy. I also beat
vendrick which was pretty damn easy only took me 3 tries
Now all i have left to beat is the covenant boss
Darklurker
but i'm confused, i went trough the dungeon once and i beat it but when i tried to do it again i got the same exact dungeon weird.

There are 3 different dungeons, one at each location you met the wheelchair guy. You have to go beat each one once. After that, when exiting it will take you to
darklurkers
room. If you don't beat him, you have to get to the end again of any one of the 3, where the exit will drop you in the boss room again.

I JUST BEAT K V
ENDRICK
NOW WHERE DO I PICK UP THAT MOTHERFUCKER'S STUFF?

God damn that felt good. I have never exhaled like that. Now onto that goddamn dragon. The final roadblock between me and NG+

Is it advisable to level in a jack-of-all-trades, master of none kind of way? I'm only level 35 or so, and I've got my STR and DEX at 14, INT at 6, ATTUNE at 10, VIT at 12, etc.

Should I ignore certain categories as I go further? I want to cast basic spells, have high mobility/roll and be able to use bows as well as sword and board. Is it a mistake to pump souls into some of those things?

This is in regards to PvE, if you are going for PvP, I know nothing:

Honestly, I think its actually better to spread your stats out a little bit instead of being super focused. The reason being you get a good enough boost from most stats when only leveling them to 20. Then the diminishing returns kick in, and they become less and less useful. So what I generally advise is:

1. Boost VGR, VIT, END, and ADP to 20 - this gives you a good amount of health, equip load, stamina, and maneuverability
2. Pick two out of these four in terms of what damage/weapons/spells you want to use: STR, DEX, INT, and FTH
3. Boost ATN as needed to unlock the amount of spell slots you are comfortable with (I'm not sure of the exact level breaks for this)

Ultimately the biggest decision is part 2. A common build is focusing on STR and FTH. This allows you to be a good melee fighter as well as having access to some strong and cool miracles and even pyromancies work well. In this case, completely avoid INT and level DEX only as needed to equip what you want to equip. You can even fit in some bows/crossbows that scale with STR.

You can focus on STR & DEX as there are some cool weapons that require a nice chunk out of either, especially if you want to dual wield. This gives you better access to bow type ranged options, but you may need to avoid magic a little bit.

You can also go very magical with INT and FTH, but I'm not sure at all how to build those types of characters.

Ultimately though, it really all depends on where you want to stop your soul level. If you are only playing PvE, this becomes a non factor, and you can just continue to blow up your stats to whatever you want.

I'd say the only time to avoid being a "jack of all trades" is very early on. In the beginning, I think its better to start focusing on one thing (say, STR) to get some good assured damage of one type before moving around. Especially in terms of reaching equip requirements as soon as possible.

Hope that helps

Just beat the game. 36 hours and SL 120. I skipped some of the optional bosses (
ancient dragon, darklurker, probably others I'm not aware of
).

Probably done with it for a while. I think I'm going to buy the strategy guide to just read through for fun to see what I missed. Will probably buy the PC version once it is on sale down the road and maybe try to see some things I didn't see on this playthrough.

lmao at dudes trying to use an estus flask in PvP

I've been shutting that down real quick hahaha

Folks don't know when to do it right. Happened a lot in DS too. Not that you should be popping Estus in a duel.

Invasions though? Fuck Black Phantoms, they're here specifically to make your in-game life hard. Heal if you get the chance.

Wow, you are efficient to finish that fast on your first run. I think I'm around 44 hours and just over SL 120. I still have a few areas to go.

Your faster then me, I'm lv 200 and 100 hours and just about to complete the game. :P

But I've also done ever boss and lot's of co-op too as well as just took my time enjoying everything.

That's a good thing, though! I'm trying to take my time with this one more than I do in most games, you only get that first run of a Souls game once, and you only get one of those every few years! I need to slowly bask in the glory.

If you are SL 200 you must be doing a ton of co-op, haha.

Did you light the fire? If you did then you need to move on to another portal.

I understand in invasions because your moving in out of nowhere on them and it's all fair game. Yea but in arena fights I kind of roll my eyes when I see it.

Dude ran off into a corner to pop one during a arena fight, and I ran after him and just wrecked him with the lancer. It was hilarious

I beat Dark Souls 1 for the first time a few months before this so I think having that fresh on my mind helped. I also didn't really do any multiplayer stuff beyond summoning for a couple tough bosses. Never really been much into that stuff in the souls games.

I may try and lay down my sign in a few places now that I have beat it but probably not. Too much other stuff to play.

So what is the best way forward? 50 Faith would be me at around 140 soul level. Might be a little high.

Where would you suggest I put my remaining souls? Im about 92 now. (or should I respect)

Right now I'm at 40/40 INT/FTH (41/41 with the hexer's hood) and that's working really well. I'll likely keep increasing both of them... probably 50/50, I'm not sure. Maybe more if skeptic's spices aren't enough for some spells. I wouldn't worry about being SL140 or over leveling in general.

Aaaaaand done. The credits are rolling (really nice theme), after almost 100 hours (I spend a lot of time faffing about in coop and farming for a few obscure items), at SL 150 on my STR/FTH character.

I'll have to sleep on this game a bit and formulate my thoughts, but I can say I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I will probably return for some NG+ action in the near future.

Flame swathe is amazing if you time it right when they're about to drink estus. Mostly because the casting animation looks like a backhand slap.

Really wish you could buff both weapons... sucks that dual wielders can only buff their right hand weapon. Looks stupid that only one of my fists glows.

And I get caught by his over head swing every time.

Just try to hug his
sweet juicy rotting
butt as close as possible the whole time and circle strafe. Every overhead strike should miss, and then you pretty much only have to worry about the backswing of the horizontal slashes. Wait until he's obviously done attacking, get in a couple hits, and do it some more.

What's up with the Red Rust Sword you get from Vengarl? A-scaling in STR. Anyone use this?

I think it is the best str weapon of in its class. That or the sun sword.

He also sells one of if not the best curved sword for str. (Curved red rust sword I think?)

I didn't use either though because they both use twinkling titanite to upgrade.

Would it be wise to have a weapon deal elemental damage of two types ? I have a Black Knight Greatsword that deals innate fire damage. I was thinking of infusing it with lightning, so it would deal that type of damage alongside fire.

I don't fucking believe it, so so careful so far re not killing NPCs, see this one from afar during an intense level and stuck a few arrows in him, then killed him.

Then realised I've just killed G
avlan
- how fucked am I GAF?

Not at all.

Other than him being a true bro,
or if you want to sell stuff/buy poison stuff
you aren't too bad off.

Are you in
Doors of Pharros?

Because there's an enemy type that looks very similar but is not him. That said, he IS here in a later section but it's in a room by himself.

I don't think it would help out too much since it would be splitting the damage through 3 defenses rather than just 2. Going fire route would be pretty good though unless high fire defense.

no I am in
no mans wharf
.

thanks guys, doesn't sound too bad given I am doing a melee focussed first playthrough. A little reading also suggests I can
resurrect him after a little time has passed
.

Ah, I see. I didn't think of that. So it would be better to infuse another weapon with lightning, such as the Drangleic Sword ?

I beat
darklurker
guys i didn't know each place in the world where those portals are was a different dungeon. I guess i did almost everything i wanted to do but i have question do i lose boss souls when i start ng+? I may just pop them and level up if thats the case.

Just helped about 10 people defeat Freja but haven't regained my humanity. Did they patch it out?

No it just don't work consistently, seems they're fixing it in the patch so it is.

"Successful Online coop with white / small sigh stone will now revive you back to human"

If Dark Souls 3 takes place on the moon, would that make us space invaders?

It's Friday I'm dying in the office here and eager to get back to the gargoyle fight cut me some slack.

I don't think so I've definitely reset to human after helping people a few times with bosses in the last few hours, I don't understand it yet but it doesn't happen every time and seemed to take a few goes to make mine work - admittedly it was nowhere near 10 more like 2 or 3.
