Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

Just beat the game, 56 hours. Soul lvl 144. Not going to go to NG+ yet
(Still have Ancient Dragon and Vendrick to take down, they are giving me fits :( ...)

I have to say
from Drangelic Castle to the end
, for me, was some of the best stuff I have played from the Souls series. Quite a strange contrast from the first 10-12 hours, which I thought was disappointing. It didn't give me a good first impression, but once I got past a certain point, it really clicked for me.

The part where you
go in the memories of ancients
while sometimes got annoying, was really neat stuff. It was one of the many things that made the end game so great.

It was really cool that they made the story much more prominent this time around. Really enjoyed the story and all the really great NPC characters.

What did you all think of the last boss? I think thematically, it was a much better last boss than Gwyn, but it was really really easy fight. Gwyn was far from an easy fight. (Without doing the cheesy parry strat).

This is in regards to PvE, if you are going for PvP, I know nothing:

Honestly, I think its actually better to spread your stats out a little bit instead of being super focused. The reason being you get a good enough boost from most stats when only leveling them to 20. Then the diminishing returns kick in, and they become less and less useful. So what I generally advise is:

1. Boost VGR, VIT, END, and ADP to 20 - this gives you a good amount of health, equip load, stamina, and maneuverability
2. Pick two out of these four in terms of what damage/weapons/spells you want to use: STR, DEX, INT, and FTH
3. Boost ATN as needed to unlock the amount of spell slots you are comfortable with (I'm not sure of the exact level breaks for this)

Ultimately the biggest decision is part 2. A common build is focusing on STR and FTH. This allows you to be a good melee fighter as well as having access to some strong and cool miracles and even pyromancies work well. In this case, completely avoid INT and level DEX only as needed to equip what you want to equip. You can even fit in some bows/crossbows that scale with STR.

You can focus on STR & DEX as there are some cool weapons that require a nice chunk out of either, especially if you want to dual wield. This gives you better access to bow type ranged options, but you may need to avoid magic a little bit.

You can also go very magical with INT and FTH, but I'm not sure at all how to build those types of characters.

Ultimately though, it really all depends on where you want to stop your soul level. If you are only playing PvE, this becomes a non factor, and you can just continue to blow up your stats to whatever you want.

I'd say the only time to avoid being a "jack of all trades" is very early on. In the beginning, I think its better to start focusing on one thing (say, STR) to get some good assured damage of one type before moving around. Especially in terms of reaching equip requirements as soon as possible.

Hope that helps

ThAnk you! Very informative :)

Anything goes in invasions. Had someone pop a seed of the tree of giants on me the other day, that was fun.

yup i did this to an arbiter at heide's. He wouldn't meet me in a neutral area to duel, instead hanging around the central area with 4 giants (ng+).

Popped the seed, watched him get smashed in. Bitter homophobic hatemail sent my way LOL.

Just saying, but even though the soft cap for Vigor is 20, it is absolutely worth leveling it up past that. The diminishing returns aren't bad - instead of 30 HP per point before lvl 20, you get 20 HP after. Which is still a lot.

Adaptability at 20 is fine. Vitality can be higher if you plan on using heavy armor/weapons. Endurance can also go either way, but at 38 End I can do 4/5 swings of my weapons, two/one-handed. Plus I can block more and such.

Some good PvP stories with my Wizard.

In iron fortress guy summoned 2 blues and was wrecking me at first. Got away with a sliver of health and he healed up. He then led the charge coming after me. I Hid behind a corner, prepped homing souls, and just as he got close unleashed a soul geyser. Got off the spell when he was stunned by the orbs and he died. Got the win just as the two phantoms crushed me.

First duel in the arena. Had no idea of the layout and someone dropped on me with homing affinity and a falling strike. Over before it began.

Guy with poison whip was schooling me. Coulding dodge it and ended up getting poisoned. Decided to go all out on him since I was pretty much dead, caught him after a roll and killed him just as the poison took me out. Victory by the skin of my teeth.

Dark Hail is my favorite PvP spell. It does crap damage, but makes people nervous, which leads to bad rolls and solid hits. Love the spread shot, come get some contra.

I never get hatemail. The worst I got was one person saying he reported me in DkS1...which amounted to nothing.

Actually, yesterday I had a lengthy fight with a guy. It was really close and I just barely lost, but the guy PMed me saying it was a great fight, and he sent me a friend request later.

patch -
Response time of start menu / bonfire menu has been improved
fucking finally? That delay is utterly awful. it reminds me of when I played the first version of FFXIV. (it's not that bad though)
vibrating when you use the shield against an attack is really nice.

anyway, DkS gaffers, I only need to fight the final boss to finish the game and I'd like to build a good character for pvp, I'm mainly doing a dex build, sl 120 right now, dex left at 40. any suggestions? Should I stick to a katana or go for another weapon like the Curved Dragon Greatsword? (which needs 30 STR so I might go for sl 140 or so) Or is there anything better for a dex build.
what's the best stamina regen shield? I can't find any % of their recover ability so I have no idea.
also, is dual-wielding a good option? I don't see the point of it.

So I'm on the cusp of finally starting this having finally clocked the first Dark Souls last week. I used guides pretty heavily for that but want to try and handle this a bit more on my own, but do have a couple of questions:

1. Kind of want to focus mainly on a bit of melee, perhaps with some pyromancy thrown in (if that's still a thing in this game?). What should I focus my early levelling on?

2. Got any recommendations for what areas are most suited to tackle first?

Will try and resist asking more than that...

For all you sun bros, where is the best spot to leave summon sign?

Usually before the boss for me. Though some areas I leave it near the bonfire for additional enemy souls get. Like for example, the very first bonfire in I
ron
K
eep
is an excellent area to leave a summon.

You should focus on STR, VIT, and maybe a little bit of DEX. You should buy a Mace and upgrade it, it is good for the early game.

Just beat
Sinner
in NG+ Shit was so poorly designed and hard in a wrong way. It tells you much when for me the best strat was simply
ignore the pyromancers

second half of the game is really good.

also I literally died 15 times to the Undead Crypt boss even if it's an easy solo fight, when I won I killed him in less than 2 minutes. that being said, if you summon 2 phantoms to help you out that fight becomes quite hard. and don't summon the npc phantom for that fight.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but the DLC I got with my Black Armor Edition is showing up on my vita's download list and downloadable, Anyone confirm as having this as well?

Dark Souls 2 Vita confirmed :p

Me doing PVP:

ibkTVCdaQhtTlC.gif

LOL. I love it.

I read that there's a place in Shrine of amana that you could turn human if you have ran out of effigies, from are such nice people for putting that in. Also i kinda fucked up and killed the guy who had the key for the third bonfire in brightstone is there another way i can get access to that bonfire?

You don't need a key for the bonfire, explore. You probably can't get the key you are talking about though, check the fight area for a tombstone.

going for the luca trophy now. curently in the wharf. one time she got arrowed down while i was talking to the npc, the other time she fell into the water before the boss somehow. gah. at least the redeye ring seems to work pretty well. these are the hardest trophys in the game, thanks to npc behavior.

Pretty late, but I'm assuming everyone here has already talked about the ridiculousness involved with the pickaxe?

I just want to know if there's anything significant with it to make it such an obscure item to get.

I'm level 132 trying to do Sunbro coveneant stuff. What's a good area?

Currently doing
Guardian Dragon
. Working alright though the waiting can be sporadic.

Oh, discussion right above, der. Guess I'll try heading there.

For all you sun bros, where is the best spot to leave summon sign?

I had to alternate between the
song demon, the smelter demon and Vendrick's bodyguard
to get my 30 medals. Sometimes I just wouldn't get any summons for like 10 minutes so I'd move to another place. All 3 bosses are very simple so it was easy enough to get medals every time.

I'm level 137 so I suppose that limited the amount of potential matches.

Just killed some guy as a Blue Sentinel by invasion and he sends me a couple of messages on PSN saying I hacked him because he can't find his soul stain. After trying to help him he then threatens to report me, haha.

Blue Sentinels rock. Wish I had more Cracked Blue Eye Orbs to invade with but I exterminated the enemies that dropped them.

I wanna wreck some gankers. Where are they hanging out? Haven't run into a gank in a few days.

Can you not buy them like you can red eyes? I'm sitting on about 2 mil souls from pvping for a few days and buying 99 red eyes is pretty trivial.

You can get some by sparring other blue sentinels and winning against them.

Can't you get them for winning a match in the arena?

From what i read its just a regular weapon with good base damage with A scaling in STR once fully upgraded, probably not worth the huge hassle tough lol Here's how you get it:

No. I can either get one by helping a Way of the Blue buddy or by sparring other Blue Sentinels. Wish I could buy them because I'd be invading all day.

I'm at endgame and don't get summoned very much to get a Token of Fidelity. One place I get summoned at doesn't have a very high success rate for the host. I should just go into New Game+ but I wanted to get to Rank 1 first. I won a fair amount of duels but ran out of Tokens.

Is it possible you can buy the blue orbs straight up in NG+? Because you can't buy red eye orbs until NG+ either, if I remember correctly.

Left the Champions Covenant. Rewards blow, you barely get any Awestones. Extra challenge would be nice but not if you don't get rewarded for it.

Just looked it up and I guess you can in NG+. Guess I'm outta luck in NG for now.

Honestly with Soul Memory being a thing and missing items in NG, there doesn't seem to be much of a point for doing Covenants and PvP in NG. I mean it's still fun, but there's a lot less waiting around and no lack of materials. Might as well just level up to 150 and head to NG+ like the rest of them.

Really seems like From designed the game around having invasions primarily for NG+ers to satisfy the people who like to play the game without being invaded/make it more accessible. All the invasion items are harder to get on your first runthrough.

Does anyone know what the mask where there is some red artwork around the one eye is called?

Yeah. It's called the "Cut From the Game and Changed to Something Hideous Instead" Mask. *if it's the one I'm thinking of from the CG trailer. If you saw it in-game, then I have no idea what mask you're referring to.

hmm....

well I'm surprised it hasn't been done yet but you can gank the bell tower invaders....if you are with a buddy that knows it's the plan to do it

I saw one guy that had a mask like that when i did co-op. I'm not thinking of the manikin mask. The reason why i ask is related to the trailer, yes :)

EDIT: It wasnt exactly like that mask in the trailer, but it had some red artwork around one eye.

Pretty much. Have little to no choice really as far as Blue Sentinels go. I'll probably finish the game up tomorrow then and head into NG+.

yes! I killed
Freja
and died right after hitting the final blow. FML, those fucking spiders are worse then the boss. Boss was piss easy, but, those spiders ruined me.
