Man, I have to redo the entire boss battle again? FML. I'm not doing it again, I'm summoning help.
Freja
wants to play unfair well then I will too.

Guys, was I wrong to summon for
Freja
? I killed her and died so I had to redo the fight. I already killed her, and was mad as hell. I feel kinda wrong, like I cheated...

is it weird? I summoned for the easiest bosses in the game, but, the hard ones I haven't summoned? Weird huh...

I thought the fight was easier without summons.

The boss itself was easy, but, the spiders ruin your day. Summons made things easy. I just sat and danced while my 2 sunbro enforcers beat her to death with her own legs.

I used to feel like that in DaS1, solo'd every boss, but I have been constantly summon for this game, and rather than cheating it feels like I am sharing an awesome moment with a random buddy, better when we finish with the same stance, too good

I did it! therefore Praise the Sun! and then joy!

So glad to be done with the game.
Even though Nashandra was kind of a pushover.

Quick, perhaps strange question: has anyone else had their messages disappear? I randomly left 'Visions of joy' near the Primal Bonfire of Lost Sinner but its gone from my history, even though messages I left before and after it are still there. Seems odd.

I think you can only keep 10 messages at a time. If you put down more than that it erases your oldest ones.

I just fought Rat Authority - were people having immense trouble with this? I thought it was easy as hell. I did run through Brightcove and beat Freja beforehand so I might've been overleveled when I went back to fight big bad rat.

the problem are the minion rats, I killed the boss with ease after I sniped 1 and killed the other 3 in 1 swing, after that the boss is easy cake

I agree with you. I had zero trouble with them.

I'm pretty far into the game and still using Drangleic Shield, should I upgrade it
I'm at the area now where getting some extra twink-tit ores isn't too bad
or is something better still on the way? Should I be using something else I missed?

How do I get into the Shrine of Winter? I have 1.2mil SM, and 3/4 old ones down. I was told I only needed 1mil to get in if I didn't want to beat the old ones. Well, the door just says "produce the symbol of the king". I don't get it.

Guys can anyone please confirm whether boss souls transfer into NG+

Just want to know if I should consume the ones I have left over or hang onto them.

Take the left path at the forkroad, not the north.

I saw one guy that had a mask like that when i did co-op. I'm not thinking of the manikin mask. The reason why i ask is related to the trailer, yes :)

EDIT: It wasnt exactly like that mask in the trailer, but it had some red artwork around one eye.

It might be the Shadow Set, which is attainable in NG+ during
Flexile Sentry boss battle from a phantom.

With a grand total of 100 hours, 264 deaths and level 202. I finally beat Dark Souls 2 and all bosses/areas.

8BjCq.jpeg

Safe to say the final end-game boss was kinda easy at my level. lol... So, I'm really looking forward to NG+ and beyond for increased difficulty, as well as more co-op and invasions.

Before I do that, I'll need to finish anything else I can, like trophies, get spells I'm missing/etc.

this has been bothering for a while but how do i open the locked door above the bonfire after beating S
hrine of
A
mana
boss?

When Dark Souls 2 wasn't logging in right today I looked at the monument to see my deaths. Is 883 accurate or is it adding something unknown? No way I died that much.

I managed to do the rat authority first try without having a clue what to do. Maybe there's like a slightly different rat or something I killed really quickly.

Bosses seem all over the place with the boat guy being really easy like the rats to the ruin sentinels which are still eluding me.

Oh, Drangleic castle you are cruel. Alrite I'm at the first bonfire, where do i go now? Theres a room with a shit ton of statues, but, that's a dead end.

Honestly I hated that fucking area but to progress you have to do the same thing you did to get inside.

Answer:
Kill the statues next do the 8 doors in that area.
Specifically
the first one on your right.

Champion's Covenant run done with. The extra challenge was really fun, but I wish the rewards were better. It's so rare to get invaded and there are only so many NPC invasions.

Playing pure melee with no magic was way, way more difficult except for a few bosses. I'm not sure how much of it was the CoC scaling, but I wasn't doing much damage even with 24 STR 40 DEX. Way more fun though.

Just platinum'd. This game was really fun, which is more than I can say about most games tbh. Still think it's weaker than DkS1 but it was an overall fun ride and I was 100% obsessed with this game since launch.

Fuck Mirror Knight invaders though, y'all a bunch of weak asses. Fuck having to keep Benhart alive through that fight in NG+. Still salty as hell about that.

Will probably take a huge break from games now and focus on other things.

I don't fucking believe it, so so careful so far re not killing NPCs, see this one from afar during an intense level and stuck a few arrows in him, then killed him.

Then realised I've just killed G
avlan
- how fucked am I GAF?

He's wheelin' and deelin' in heaven now! :'( *sniff*

A yo can you buy those hard to obtain miracles in ng+ or is it ++ ?

A yo can you buy those hard to obtain miracles in ng+ or is it ++ ?

Yeah you can buy them from the ghost dude at the start of Drangleic in NG++. The wiki says you have to beat the final boss in NG++ but it's not true. Just talk to him and get em.

Also shouts to ratbros in Doors of Pharros hope y'all feel good about yourselves. #salt

What's the best chime to be using at 30 faith? Never been able to understand the stat screens on catalysts/talismans etc in Souls games :/
Chime of Want
is the best Hex chime in the game..
yeah its nice to have high hex and lightning, but hard to upgrade until late game? I have not found one dragon bone midway through.
I've ventured a little into
the shaded woods
and seem to be blocked everywhere. Can I basically do nothing there until I have
lit the 4 primal bonfires
?
actually the first time I went in there I was blocked by two different doors, but a Million souls memory later and only 2 of four boss souls I walked right in to one of them.

There's no way to lock onto these guys right? This area is really annoying as a caster.

I found a chest in this area that I'm pretty sure has the
Clear Bluestone Ring +1
since I saw it on the stream, but I got ganged up by these guys and I don't stand a chance. Now I can't find the chest again.

I think I will try out scraps of life next time I corall a bunch of those guys by me...

Nah you're fine. I was a little lower SL than that my first time, and like 103 this time.
Yeah I got the blue ring, as a melle character this time though! If you hug the right wall you find a different chest. It also has a ring I suspect is meant to be worn in the area, but I got outright backstabbed and one shotted, so the supposed effects of the ring didnt work. I got about four items just running around in there...hope that's everything, I dont care to fight the invisible. They shoot arrows as well.

So before I dive into my NG+, I'd like to ask for some advice. I've played through the three souls games as a nimble user for the most part, using daggers, katanas, and occasionally spears in the first two games. I've no experience with any sort of magic or pyromancy. For Dark Souls II I dual wielded the entire game without a shield, mostly just using curved blades/katanas. For the first time ever I'm jumping into NG+ but I want to change my playstyle for this run. I would like to use a "big" weapon (whether that be greatsword, hammer, club, axe, whatever, I don't care) supplemented by the pyromancy glove in my other hand, continuing my lack of shield use for DkSII. I've been testing out various equipment, pyromancies, etc. before continuing but I just seem to suck with pretty much everything. What are are some good weapons/sets/stats/spells I should be looking at for this style?

Some "final" impressions for the game. It took me 63 hours to beat the final boss, though some optional content I didn't do
Ancient Dragon and the darkdiver segments because I kept running out of effigies and gave it up.
I only died 404 times which was a lot less than I honestly expected (I figured I'd clear a thousand deaths no problem). I've respecced too many times since beating it to show the stats I ran the game through, but I believe it was something like SL 124, VGR/END/VIT at 20, DEX 40, STR 36, and ADP 16.

The mechanics proved to be every bit as satisfying to me as the other games in the series, so while it matches up and lives up to my expectations in most every way, I think ultimately I still preferred the tighter world design from Lordran. I appreciate that Drangleic was ultimately a test in scale and showing an entire kingdom instead of a city-state design, but I felt like too many of the levels didn't get a fair stay because they were simply too short. The level design and enemy placement was still superb, and I honestly enjoyed every single area.

Levels that were too short, and didn't get the chance to be as great as I thought they could and should have been:
Heide's Tower of Flame, Huntsman's Copse, Sinner's Rise (though it is really just an extension of the awesome Lost Bastille), Iron Keep (the second half was far less satisfying, though I loved the part where you dropped down the beams), Black Gulch (though it made it easier to just speedrun it past the shitty statues), Aldia's Keep, and Dragon Aerie.
All supremely satisfying areas, I thought, but they were so short and devoid of content for the most part that I was a little disappointed when they were over.

Now for my somewhat controversial list of favorite areas of the game.

B
rightstone
C
ove Tseldora
was a surprisingly cool area. I ranted when I first reached it because though I killed
Freja
my first time I was killed by
a baby spider
at the same time, and the level seemed unnaturally long to me. Well as it had turned out I missed TWO bonfires there so the second time through I really enjoyed having to clear out the mages, move through the houses, and look for the content there. This was a dense level with interesting level design that felt more like a regular village on the outskirts of these grand kingdoms. Really cool level I thought.

The G
utter
was a wonderful surprise to me, since it was the only area in the game I felt compelled to use a torch (and my torch time went for 1:15 minutes to just 35 minutes by the time I was done!). I liked the labyrinthine mess that it was, and the atmosphere was better than most levels.

S
hrine of
A
mana
was by far the biggest surprise because I'd seen so many people complain about it, but it was honestly one of my absolute favorite areas throughout the game. The atmosphere was suitably creepy due to the minimalist music you'll hear, and the level design was tight while giving you a distinct impression of being open. It honestly wasn't much of a challenge for my playstyle so maybe that's why I liked it, but it surprises me how much hate I see it get. Shitty, easy boss though.

Speaking of bosses I found the vast majority of them to be just too simple. I did summon on a few fights where I just felt overwhelmed
namely fights with multiple bosses - Ruin Sentinels, the two dragon riders, the royal rat authority, gargoyles
. On the whole they left the epic demonic enemy trope for the Artorias swordfighter trope, which is cool in it's own right, but the few fights that were like the first two games were entirely too easy because of the bosses speeds, though this might be because for the first time ever I went into the game not as a shield junkie but a dodge junkie.

Most frustrating fucking parts of the game for me:
The Lost Sinner. I probably tried it a dozen times before giving up and getting the key from the gargoyle fight so I could actually have lockon. While not using lockon is fine for me with the bigger enemies, smaller ones like these I NEED to be able to lockon! Harvest Valley, I literally just ran through this level and killed the boss first try. No desire to see it again, don't even care what I missed. And I've seen a lot of people post Drangleic Castle as a highlight, but I thought it was absolute horse shit. Boring straight paths that seem totally unlike a castle, bullshit "puzzle" rooms/entrances with the soul collection filled with enemies that whoop my ass )the iron statues alone were murdering me, then they reintroduced Ruin Sentinels? Fuck that). Shitty level, with some shitty boss fights.
As I mentioned a few pages back though, I honestly think the fight that gave me the most trouble was
Licia of Lindeldt! Fuck this woman! Every god damned time I would get her health even remotely close to a point where I could finish her in a combo, she would spam heal then her stupid magic move that blasts you across the room. I really hated this fight. In the end I went naked so I could actually get out of that blasts range, used my poisonous Falchion+10 and Uchigatana+10, and still probably took another 5-10 tries to beat her after I finalized my strategy. Absolute bullshit of a fight.
