After BKH and duel Curved Swords, dual BSK +10 at is apparently the third most damaging DEX set up you can get (at 40 DEX). So says one of the wikis. It's the setup I'm aiming for, although I'm running out of Allone Knights...
I feel like dual-wielding needs a buff, after all you're giving up the ability to block (and blocking is really goddamn powerful, most attacks you'll lose less stamina for blocking than dodging). The attacks take up so much stamina.
Don't feel that way, it's just part of the game. You can always try again in NG+ or a new account. Jolly Cooperation is also a ton of fun, something I kick myself for eschewing in previous Souls games. However, my experience is that Summons are a crap shoot. They range from very helpful to downright detrimental. There are some folks I think that like to troll players by intentionally dying in Boss fights and leave you with a Boss with extra HP/Defense.

Are you doing powerstance? If not, I agree, there is not much of an advantage, but if you have the stats for Powerstance, you get to practically do double swing attacks for extra damage in a shorter window.

But you get way more of them in. They are faster. I switch between dual and two hands depending on the enemy. If they have an opening where I can get a few hits in, I'll power stance dual wield. If I can only safely get one in, I'll two hand it for higher damage for individual strikes.
The ring that increases poise damage is also useful for dual wielding early on. Stun locks them.
Don't feel that way. That's one of those "Play exactly MY way or you're playing it wrong!!" kinda things people spread around for some reason.
As for the
Gargoyles: You really just need to focus on killing tem one at a time. The next one seems to come in as soon as one of them gets to half health so having several of them reach that point gets you overwhelmed pretty fast.

What weapons are you using? I don't do a lot of Dual Wielding, but I've seen folks pick weapons with High Scaling and just pump those stats to do massive damage per hit and wreck everything in their path. It's essentially a glass cannon build but the risk is worth the reward if you're into that kind of thing.
For me dual wielding was a test of my defence capabilities - namely, foregoing the shield and learning to not get hit. I'd say it worked out pretty well.
I remember From saying that you can defeat some of the bosses MGS3 style where you see them early on and could kill them. Besides the Pursuer is there any other boss that does this?

I'm trying to get myself a couple of katanas but right now I'm using Heide Sword +4 and a Fire Longsword +4 (don't want to commit just yet, still experimenting with movesets). However, I've had to switch to dual Morningstars against a few enemies because strike damage is fairly effective (mostly against those stone knights in Tower of Heide).

Dual WIelding for me 's quite a letdown as well. Got my str up to 21 as a dex character to dual wield lightning uchi and blacksteel +10, but I don't really do that much more damage than two handing my blacksteel. And after two swings my stamina is drained, compared to 4/5 swings of my blacksteel.

I think the biggest advantage dual wielding offers is poise and guard breaking. Then again, it's nothing a two handed great club or sword doesn't offer.
I just see it as a nice looking alternative that forces you to get your dodge timings down.

I think if dual wielding used a lot less stamina it'd be useful for some playstyles. Hopefully they tweak this eventually, because right now it's little more than a gimmick.

Exactly, the benefits sucks. I could hold a +10 Greatsword with a good shield, so while I lose out on the speed an attack comes out, I gain strong passive defensive options from my shield, longer range with my attacks and higher poise damage, while stamina cost and damage is about the same.
So, I recently started NG+ with a balanced build (stats at 20-25, int at 30) and was cruising through
The Last Giant, Ruin Sentinels, Belfry Gargoyles, 'Ornstein' and Dragonrider
so I felt confident going to
No Man's Wharf
, which I was supposed to do before
Lost Bastille; Sentinels/Belfry Gargoyles
anyway. I got utterly destroyed by that boss. Only tried him three times, but got hit in a combo as soon as I ran up to him. Really unforgiving boss in NG+.
Really enjoying DS II. Sorcerer. Playing my "typical" De/Da Souls build, a melee "caster" (in Demon's it was Royalty with Dex build & weapons, in Dark it was a Dex Pyro).
So far I've managed OK. I cleaned the following levels and bosses:
Forest of the Fallen Giants
Heide's Tower of Flame
Cathedral of the Blue
No Man's Wharf
The Lost Bastille
Huntsman Corpse
my current stats:
What should I focus on next?
As far as equipment goes, I'm rocking a Shield + Falchion for now.
What should I look out for? What weapon? Should I go the dex+caster build or simply go for the casting?
What items should I upgrade, if any? For now at least, until I get some better gear.

Get your INT to 40, the returns between 20-30 are poor, but hitting 40 gives you a boost. The hex guy on the way to huntsman's corpse sells a good staff. Archdrake. Make your Faith 8 I think it is and you can always use a soul vessel afterwards. If you're going to do that actually make your faith 20, he gives a good staff/caster set for free at 20+ INT/FTH. The staff is more for hexes though, so your Archdrake will be best, but I believe the armour is good. Your issue right now is he won't talk to you with your faith stat soo low.
The fire longsword is a good low dex/str weapon to pick up for an INT build as well.
I spent a few hours after that being evil with the Chameleon spell. So much fun. I was invading and summoning red phantoms in Iron Keep and hiding right in the middle of the bridge as a vase and nobody suspected a thing. Was expecting to get quite a few messages of abuse from people but everyone seemed to find it hilarious.

You need to ask yourself if you want to do melee/sorc hybrid or go pure sorc. The best staff for sorcery is in the last area that you unlock in the game, and since you already have the stats to melee stuff I would say stick with that. If you want to go pure caster you'd need a substantial investment into INT(64) in order to cast the best spell.
You may also want to consider investing into FAI, then pick up the best dark staff from felkin, then stick to hex options instead.

True, but as a pure sorc I had nowhere else to dump the points anyway, so I'd rather have the spell in it's full glory.
If you play pure sorc with no real melee options at SL 150 you're left with a crapload of points to either dump into FAI for defense and hex options or ATT for casts, slots and speed.

I've run into a bug at Huntsman Copse. That small cage that works as an elevator to take you from the bottom of that pit with the moths after the secret door doesn't appear to me any more. So I either have to use a Homeward bone if I want to go there for some reason, or I have to put the Life Protection Ring and jump at the hole and die.
When this happened, all of the items of the area re-spawned. Basically the whole area is as it was when I first got there.
Just had my most intense boss encounter yet, though I still died. NG+ fighting the
gargoyles. Had one guy come in with me and we each got one gargoyle down to near death when he got swarmed by the third and died. I said fuck, resigned myself to my fate, but managed to dodge and squeeze in hits until I was down to the last two gargoyles. Alas I was eventually killed.
Very few people throwing down white soapstones in this fight for NG+. Sucks because this is one of those fights I'm just screwed on. On NG I bought and upgraded two scimitars to +5 lightning, but they're probably so weak even at +9 I don't know if it's worth trying that again.
If you're melee keep him away from the walls and he's pretty simple. He telegraphs his moves pretty well so you should be able to dodge through easily enough.
Do you remember at what ATT does Soul Geyser become 2 casts?
My character has 40 ATT and 36 FAI, the FAI gives a lot of lightning/dark/fire resist, but I would bring my ATT up if I knew at what point Soul Geyser becomes 2 casts.
I'd say put 30 or 40 points in INT. The magic weapon spell tree is amazing for wringing every last bit of damage out of your weapon. Even if you only have 2 attunement slots, it's worth it.
anyway I'm still not sure which weapon to use for pvp/NG+, that 330~ damage from BSK isn't good enough for me. I was thinking to fully upgrade the Darkdrift just 'cause almostinvisibile weapon looks cool, but the damage isn't high. or I'll just use a soul vessel and go for a faith build or something.
oh, how does the Brotherhood of Blood pvp works? Do I just need to equip the ring or what. also what's the ideal SL for pvp, around 120-150?
It sucks that I have so little time to play. At this rate, this game will keep me entertained throughout the year. My backlog weeps.
Anyway, I beat The Last Giant last night. He was pretty fucking easy. I'm wondering where I can use the key I got from him. I used it unlock the door to an area where they ask me about a sign of the king (guessing I should return here later), a door leading to the Pursuer and the door above the bonfire. Can I use it anywhere else? Anyway, the Pursuer was kicking my ass so I went to the Heide Tower of Flame for a while and got lots of nice items, so I think that area should be my next focus.
I also did some online play. I really should play these games in the time just after launch, because now even a sucky player like me has a chance. I was summoned as a helper phantom, but instead of going to the Last Giant, which I was expecting, the host took me and one more guy to the one-chance only fight against the Pursuer. He was a sitting duck against three players. Will the host get a special reward for taking him down early? Then we went and kicked the Last Giant's ass. I managed to pull my weight in the battles, but I was the only meelee guy. The other people went with magic.
As a reward I got in total around 10000 souls and revived to human. So I decided to get some bad karma too and use up my three Red Eye Orbs in the Forest of Giants. All times, invading was almost instantaneous and all three times a blue phantom was summoned to help the host. The first time I squared off against the blue phantom and although I played really badly I managed to deal a lot of damage to him. I wasn't sure whether he could heal as a blue phantom so I didn't want to give him a chance to escape, and played far too offensively, and he eventually won.
The next invasion I spawned in sort of a side area with treasures and lots of enemies, where the host had already been (the chest was open). Supposedly a blue phantom spawned but I never got to see him, because moments later the host died somehow without me ever seeing him.
On my third invasion, there was a blue phantom as well but I quickly spotted the host and decided to hurt him as much as possible before they could intervene. So halfway through the fight the blue phantom got involved. Maybe what I did here is poor etiquette, but I ignored him and tried to rush the host before I died. And the host sucked even more than I did, so it worked. I'm not sure what the blue phantom was doing, because I left myself pretty open when dealing with the host, but he didn't do much to stop me. Maybe they were surprised by my poor etiquette and thought I would honourably tackle the blue phantom first?
Anyway in total I got 20000 souls from invasions and co-op which was really nice. I helped once again with the Last Giant but didn't get resurrected to human. What's up with that?
Also, does anyone know the difference between Large and Small White Soapstone? Why would anyone use the small one?

As much as duel-wielding two curved swords/katana feels cool, I also feel like slash damage isn't very good against most things in this game. Lots of armored knights, etc.
Small gives you a Smooth and Silky stone, which you can trade with the crows. Also, small is useful when you just want to refill your estus/spells/ weapon durability.
You'e summoned as a shade instead of a phantom which means you're there for a shorter amount of time or kills. It's probably meant for clearing some hotspots intead of the whole level with a partner.
Also, instead of a token of fidelity you will get Smooth & Silky stones as a reward plus the Souls you got of course.

The Duke's Dear Freja is one of the four main boss souls no? Why does it look like a normal boss soul and not like The Lost Sinner and The Old Iron King?

Where should i use Bonfire ascetic to farm a shit ton of souls from enemies, bosses, i need more souls for my offline character for (magic, miracles...)
Yeah, I saw dude incased in webs and this small little glow on the ground but I couldn't make anything happen... I guess I must investigate it further. Thanks!

Ran into a bit of a problem in Drangleic. When I go to kill the stone soldiers in the room with the one Golem, the elevator won't activate. Happen to anyone else? I thought the only glitch was the entrance not opening?
Edit: nvm, got it working. I killed the two stone soldiers closest to the golem. Why that works is beyond me.
