I just upgraded all my weapons with him. Eventually in NG+ I got it. Rememebr that you have to select "speak" to him to get the achievement.

Wow. No. Just.... NO. Worst idea ever.
Why? Have you even given it any thought? I can't come up with anything that works better now than with a choice between free camera and locked behind back with aiming reticle. At least for ranged.

Yeah, that just won't work with spear and rapiers.
I can stab people just fine in any other game with that kind of aiming. I just don't see the problem. I find it weird that people are so rabidly against actually aiming their strikes and spells. I know they can sort of be aimed atm but how screwed up it is kind of supports my point.

At least having the option would do no harm. Unless it wrecked PvP in which case it would be the superior system and should obviously be implemented.

I don't think it just pops at some threshold. You
light the torch in the room to access his gear in the chest he sits on. That's when I got the trophy anyway.

So I beat the Royal Rat Vangaurd or whatever it was in Grave of Saints.....so what the hell is that thing in Doors of Pharros that kicks my ass?

ok, this is bullshit. can someone explain to me how does the
Great Chasm
fucking work?
I did one, got one rank, then I did the second one at Drangleic Castle, I died like 5 times wasting a lot of stuff because that place is horrible and uh, didn't get rank 2. what? Why.

also do I have to kill the phantoms everytime or can I skip them? If I can't skip fuck this shit.

Rank 2 is by beating all the 3 chasms. Rank 3 is beating
Darklurker
. . Cant skip any phantom.

i want to kill sinner in ng+ with luca alive. should i
get the key from gargoyles first to make it easier or do you think it's doable without?
Keeping Lucatiel alive against Sinner in NG+ was probably the single most difficult thing for me. It's a 5 minute detour anyway so might as well.

Vendrick
down, and with that...NG+ or another NG with a different character? Solo'd every boss and I have no intention of ever doing that again.

Aiming spells manually is a good option but against quick small enemies it'd be terrible.

I have played games with more or less similar combat without lock-on, such as Monster Hunter and Dragon's Dogma. The combat work well for those games, but being 100% lock-on in the Souls games is a pain in the ass, especially against small enemies (hell I wish MH3 had lock-on for those, for big monsters it works fine, but for smaller mobs it's annoying as hell). Moreover, rolling backwards and strafing and circling around are core components of the combat and can't be achieved (or not well) with a lock-on system.

Can't believe I even have to write this, it's so obvious... :S

I still need to kill him. Been putting it off...
he killed me a few times after his health was really low and it pissed me off, so i took a break lol

oh well, I thought it was one rank per dungeon. then
how do I reach the Darklurker after I beat the third chasm?

After you beat the 3 dungeons
linking the fire in all of them you need to redo a dungeon of you choose, including phantoms. After you beat it, you'll be at the boss. If you lose you have to redo that dungeon.

Some bosses in NG+ are more annoying. Not hard, just plain annoying, like (spoilers from a change in a boss)
Lost Sinner having pyromancer adds

I think you need to use a bonfire for the ring to have an effect.
It gives +casts depending on the spell. Normal NRB gives +1 cast to every spell you have slotted, such that if you have two of the same spell you get +1 for each. NRB+2 gives +3 casts to (almost) every spell. Spells seem to have different caps, I get 3 Flame Swathes per slot of Flame Swathe no matter if I have normal NRB or NRB+2, giving a total of 6 Flame Swathes when I have two spells equipped, no matter which ring I use.

Naturally, you need to sit at a bonfire after equipping the ring to refill your spell casts.

I think the Saint's hood (or the similar INT hat) is more useful than the NRB ring though, as it gives the same effect as normal NRB, but you don't get any health loss. It's light armor as well.
Ah ok, i see, thanks :) I didnt think that you had to use a bonfire for it to have effect. I guess it makes kinda sense, so that you cant just equip and unequip the ring to get free spell usages all the time. I wonder if using a bonfire, then removing the ring, will it then also remove the extra spells? I would guess yes.

Oh shitttt. Pate and that dude
that wanted to trap pate but ended up trapping himself are going at it
. What should I do??
What i did the first time was to just
hit both guys one or two times, then watch the fight go down between them. You then get a thanks from whoever win, and you also get a key to a room that is to the left, right before you enter that area with the spikey floor. No matter who wins or lose between Pate and that other guy, you will get that key. And you also get the full armor set from whoever wins if i'm not mistaken.

I don't know why, but this event never happened for me over the course of my game despite meeting what I thought were all of the requirements and heading to the correct place multiple times. Oh well.

you have to at least once in a ng+ playthrough or else you'll forever be branded casul.

lol, nope. Maybe some of the bosses that changed somehow like
dual Pursuers
but there's no way I'm soloing bosses like
Freja and Rat Authority
again. Exercises in tedium.

ok, it still sucks that I have to kill those phantoms everytime I want to try to go for the boss. isn't there an easier way or something?

Yes, they are removed as soon as you remove the ring/hat.

Not sure if you did it but an easy to miss spot for Pate is in
Earthen Peak.

I beat the game earlier today, it just kind of ended out of no where, I had no idea I was on the final boss, who was incredibly easy. Now that I finished I wanna try out the multiplayer. Any good spots to lay down a summon sign, level 154? Also, for covenants, the Sun covenant, that's a good one for co-op, right? I'm not into PvP and wanna help some sun bros out.

Man this game is so terrifying for me haha. Hadn't played in 1.5 weeks, so picked up where I left off in
Huntsman's Copse, through Harvest Valley and now I'm in Earthen Peak. Poison and shit everywhere, damn.

I don't know what it is, but there's something about the Souls games that makes me really, really uncomfortable while playing.

First bonfire in
Drangleic Castle was a good spot, you get summoned either for the dragonriders bosses or the Throne of Want ones
. Sunbros is an easy covenant to rank up to max too. Theres a lot of jolly-coop going on right now in the game.

Ahh that's right, I remember seeing a ton of sings there. Is there a specific way to drop a yellow summon sign for the Sun cov, I only have a white? and do I have to wear the ring? I don't use magic so it's worthless to me

You dont need anything, once you join the covenant, the white soapstone will put a yellow sign.

I dont understand why being invaded isnt optional. I have to rant a bit about it after what happened earlier tonight.

Today i'm trying to do some co-op in
Huntman's Copse
. I use a Human Effigy and wait around the bonfire for summon signs to turn up. Then suddenlty i get invaded, i get killed and basically wasted a Human Effigy. I also lost my souls because i tried to play solo earlier, and i died pretty far out in the level (not that big of a deal, but still annoying).

Then when i find a summon sign in this area, i get invaded again and he kills my co-op partner. He keeps rolling and dodging around, makes it really hard to hit with my slower melee build. I tried to fight him, but other enemies kept attacking me too, then my weapon broke, so i just ended up jumping off a cliff to save some time.

I did manage to hit him a few times, but then he started to heal. Its somewhat pointless to limit the usage of Estus Flask for the invader when he/she can just use miracle healing spells, which is what this invader did.

The same thing kinda happened a few days ago when i was trying to do some co-op for
The Lost Sinner
. Guy comes in and invade, kills me and i have to run down to the boss area again. I ended up dying before i got there and lost about 70k souls (again, not really a big deal at this point since i'm on NG++, and getting around 70k souls with co-op at this point doesnt take that long, but still).

Why not give people the option to enjoy the messages and co-op without having to be forced to play PvP at times? I would kind of compare it to playing co-op in Call of Duty or something, and in the middle of the level you might get tossed into a team death match. I know that this example isnt exactly the same, but its the principle of having to (or at least there is a chance for it to happen) play competitively at random times if you also want to play co-op.

By the way, why isnt there a simple way to get the game in online and offline mode? From what i can tell, the only way to play in offline mode if you get to a certain area is to disconnect from PSN or Xbox Live. And if you want to play online again, you have to quit the game back to the main menu and load the game again.

I actually love the idea with invading. I think its a pretty cool idea and mechanic, but i really dont like the idea that its not optional. Its optional in the way that you can play offline, but then you cant read messages or do co-op either, so its not very optional in that sense.

I also really like the idea that in the boss
Mirror Knight, its pretty cool that a human player (i think?) can be summoned out of the mirror. That kinda reminded me of the Old Monk boss from Demon's Souls
:)

Update on Pate and Creighton..
I killed them both
as im a peace loving guy and don't like people fighting,
killing Pate first. Old hag Melentia in Majula will sell the armor set of the guy you killed. The guy you sided with will give you his armor set and a key.

So the Hag merchant is selling both of their armor set in my playthrough. I gotta say, Creighton's torso armor is banderas.gif worthy.

Damn, almost had
Darklurker
on my first try. Too bad all of my souls are there somewhere because my hexes are useless without them and I can't skip the enemies. Should have worn the life protection ring.

Do you have the Ring of Protection?

If invading was optional, practically no one would opt in because of experiences like yours and because they prefer to be safe, rolling around with a bunch of co-op partners to ensure they don't die.

If one doesn't want to be invaded, one has to accept that there's a trade-off of not being able to summon partners for help, either.

Is there any reason I need to kill the RRA? He's a cheap piece of shit. I have no problem with the 4 minions, one arrow and firestorm take care of them. RRA though can kill me in 2 hits regardless of my shield, my defense, whatever and I can't get away from him fast enough to dodge. If he's optional, then he's staying optional.

Except you actively ask for help when you summon, not being invaded. I got sick of the shit back in DaS1 trying to get from the top of blighttown down to Quelaag's lair, so finally I wisened up and yanked every time they tried that shit. Couldn't care less if it pissed them off.

Ran through the game once as a pure melee 50/50 Str/Dex build. Now I'm running through as a pure magic user. I just wanna say holy shit, Flame Swathe is awesome.

Do you have the Ring of Protection?
Is it Ring of Steel Protection? If so, i have that, also in +2 version. Maybe it will help a bit on melee guys?

I think that someone would still like to do random PVP, but yeah, it would probably be less people to invade, that i'm pretty sure of. I still would like it to optional though. Its possible to have more arranged PvP places though, like in
Belfry Sol and Belfry Luna. The start of Iron Keep also seems to be a popular arranged PvP spot.
, so PvP could still be a part of the game.

True, i have accepted that its a part of the game. Unfortunately it doesnt mean that i find it less annoying at times though :)

He's optional. But if you want to kill him, it's better to stay underneath him the whole time.

there's always lots of creepy shit in souls games. and it's dangerous. you're not alone.

well, it would help keep your humanity when you die, but it breaks. Only 3000 to fix it. Cheap price in terms of keeping your humanity
