Xbox Fans aren't the ones who were running campaign targeted at Microsoft to bring back Shenmue.
Sony fans have been campaigning for Shenmue for a while now, so I'd just find it hilarious if Microsoft picked the game up.
EDIT: I honestly don't care who ends up releasing this game. If it's Xbox Exclusive, I'll buy it day one. If it's Playstation Exclusive, I'll still buy it day one. If it releases as Multiplatforn, I'll still buy the game day one.
I just really imagine the potential Salt and tears as fantastic.

Why does it matter how much it sells & stuff to people don't you just want to play it and be a gamer who takes in that moment that it's actually in your hands..if it sells good or not should only matter to MS
Not if they want a game that might sell a sizable number of Xbox Ones.

What are you even talking about? Xbox fans have been clamoring for Shenmue 3 ever since Shenmue 2 released. The only reason Sony fans are saying anything at all is because Shenmue has never been released on the Playstation and it would be a good way to get a HD collection of 1 and 2.

MS spent $400 million on 60fps streaming of the NFL so spending $100 million on Shenmue 3 probably makes sense to them.

The fact that he's mentioning Shenmue on day 1 of his new job is really encouraging. Not because I expect Shenmue, but because it suggests he's actually aware of the core audience.
Shenmue isn't something you can do on a low budget, it was all about the atmosphere and attention to detail.
The scope of the story is huge as well. Shenmue was a wreckless product of its time, a time when Sega were completely bonkers and throwing caution to the wind.
No one is bonkers enough these days to make it happen, and AM2 who were at the top of their game back then are a shadow of their former selves.

Bringing shenmue back would be a huge bombshell for the gaming audience that cares, but it would sell like shit again.

If it's a packed game that effectively ends the series and gives closure to the fans, eh, I don't give a shit how it sells, haha. If it's merely Part 3 in Yu Suzuki's original 11-game plan or whatever it was yeah I'd care more about the sales.
They're clunky to be sure, but the vision, ambition and scope is there. It was Yu Suzuki's passion project and it shows. The final bits of Shenmue II in the forest sections are still pretty breathtaking, especially when you consider the time the game was made.
Even HD ports would be a lot of work, and time hasn't been nice to the mechanics. Controls would need to be reworked for starters.
Shenmue was very ahead of its time, which is why it had the impact it did and why people have such fond memories of it. Would it have that impact now though? It's unique, but I think a modern audience would rip it to pieces. It split opinion even back then.
I think Shenmue is best left to nostalgia, no re-release or new chapter will ever equal what it meant back then.

Yeah. One of the upsides to a Shenmue 3 release is all the little eggheads with their NPDs and calculators declaring that it won't sell will get a definitive answer. It's a win win!
