Man, PVP in this game is broken. Unless you're a mage, you're going to get OHKOed by everyone. it's fucking stupid. I infused my rapier with poison and it does jack shit because everyone has such high HP. By the time I even get near them I get 1 shot.

Mytha, Covetous and Iron King were unbelievable jokes. I didn't even get touched on Mytha and IK.

I think it's very weird that it's possible to miss huntsman's copse for a logn time, when it's clearly the easiest route, hidden by intimidating poison. I though Mytha and Covetous were way too easy on my first run, but I loved the Covetous fight on my second character, because I went there third after Dragonrider and Last Giant. Fight is tuned for low levels and is really cool with a wide move set and a nice surprise gimmick that one just doesn't get to see if kill him super fast with a +7 fire long sword like my first character did.

y'know everyone always says, Richards rapier with poison infused is OP, well they're wrong, it's not OP. Infact, it's pointlessly weak. By the time I get near anyone I'm already dead.

Well fuck.

The hardest part is just getting rid of the extra little dog/rat things in the beginning. After that, just stay under him and slash at his back legs and when he jumps away, immediately run back underneath him and slash his back legs again. Stay away from his front legs and DON'T LOCK-ON to him. Do it free lock and you shouldn't have much trouble.

Eh, mages are going to have less HP than most other builds because of the stat investment. I feel like everyone I fight has more health than me. But, I can also do like 1200 damage with great resonant soul arrow, which casts in like .5 seconds and I have like 24 of them.

There's definitely balancing to be done. I think it's in better shape than when DS launched though. A good indicator of this is that people are complaining that way too many things are overpowered. Hey, that means there's a few viable playstyles then, right? ;)

Shrine of Amana is just a poorly designed slog, by far the most frustrated I've been with a souls Area. If it was difficult I would welcome the challenge but it just feels cheap and tedious.

Anyone throwing down summoning signs at The Royal Rat Authority? That dude is owning me. :(

Do you have any range? What I did was take out two of them with my bow. Then I wait for them and the boss to run up to me and dodge his swipe attack. Then I killed to two remaining rats while he was recovering. The rest of the fight is like sif. Just get under him or near his back leg so he can't really attack you and start attacking. If you have gold pine resin that will also help since he seems pretty weak to it.

Also DO NOT LOCK ON. Makes the fight much harder if you do.

Okay so I just got to D
rangleic Castle
. What is the point of the big room with
the statue knights that come to life and the doors that open with Ruin Sentinels in them.
Is it worth it to make the effort of clearing out this room?

The R
at
Bosses are easy if you have a Pyro build. Just lay down a few Chaos Storm or equivalents and it be over within seconds.

Thanks! That helped me kick it's ass. :D

There are some good items there so it is definitely worth checking out. If you don't feel like clearing the room you could just make a couple of suicide runs to get the items since the bonfire is pretty close.

back left door gets you too the wheelchair dude to join his covenant as that should be the 3rd time you talk to him. Door opposite has a mastodon greatsword, ando forget what was in the one next to that. I think the others are empty.

Darklurker
was way harder for me than the final (hell almost all) of the other bosses in the game, even with +10 pyro glove.

Once I beat him I did it without being hit, it just took a bunch of times learning exactly what to do.

Alright I think I've finally got fighting mages down. I gotta dodge a full second before the spell comes out, maybe even 1.5 seconds. It's great dodging 5 crystal soulmasses, then dodging their soul greatsword and then backstabbing them with my massive washing pole.

Definitely one of the hardest fights just because
You usually can't keep both of them on camera at the same time. And because of that stupid ranged dark explosion ball of stupidity that you have to sprint away from and you have no idea they're doing while you are running away.

The only fights I think are harder are NG+ exclusive fights.

Open all of the doors for some items in a few of them and the last one on the left side of the room when you come in will have a Ruin Sentinel and what looks like an empty room with a false floor. Drop through the floor and there will be a bonfire, a chest with armour and an NPC for a covenant. If you kill the enemies by the statue it will come to life and create an elevator up to room near the top of the castle.

seeing vendrick for the first time has got to be the greatest thing in gaming ive seen in a while. they talked about this king since the beginning and i expected a brutal fight but the moment that eerie theme (awesome btw) kicked in i knew something was wrong. i saw a giant hollow dragging a sword, slowly creeping in circles for god knows how long. looked closer and i realized its the king.

could anyone tell me what happened with vendrick pls ?

Boss soul weapons have all been incredibly underwhelming.
Dark
Chime of Want
is the best chime in the game for hexes. The smelter sword is a lot of fun. Probably outclassed by other weapons in its class, but whatever.

Again, every single enemy I've fought makes poison pointless.

I haven't used poison weapons yet. But I find poison throwing knives and arrows to be about as effective if not more so than they were in Dark Souls PVP. Meaning, they're not going to win the fight for you. They're good for keeping the pressure on. Poison drains your HP faster than the first game, so they have to act more quickly. But I'll just die if I make the focus of a match inflicting poison buildup.

That reminds me, does havel's have the same shit poison resistance it did in the first game? In DS1 I immediately poison anyone I see wearing that armor.

Game is, I don't know where to place this one. Where as it is much easier to do some things but, it made other things harder. Bonfires are different. I am leaning towards this being the hardest of all games. At the same time, it just seems too deliberate as to appease people who really don't understand the series at all but, who are the loudest. I don't know DSIIGAF.

I don't want to say they made aspects difficult for the sake of it (La Mulana imo), but it kind of does.
I mean enemies disappearing permanently even after resting at a bonfire, kinda, you know, deliberate
.

I like the way it works now. The +1 is just a nice convenience for weapons with odd STR requirements. But it's a bit easier to tell if you can two hand something now. Getting rid of the 2H bonus was a good idea too, because now there's reason to upgrade STR past the 2H requirement for a weapon.

Yeah I agree with this.

Poison in PvE if applied by a melee weapon is kind of pointless, in NG - enough things die fast enough that it will be applied before it procs/sticks. Unless you are using daggers - but even then, you are better off using something else.

With poison arrow for sniping though - it's pretty deadly and can trivialize a few areas.

The Poison spells (Poison Mist, Toxic Mist, Dark Fog) are a bit of a hit & miss in PvE.

In PvP - if you can get it to stick, can put on quite a bit of pressure if the other person isn't prepared.

Maybe in NG+ and beyond where enemies start taking a little longer to take down might have more use, but even on my hexer where melee is a back-up and not a main-strategy at this point - most things die in 3-4 hits melee anyways.

Yeah, 4 poison knives will poison NPC enemies. You probably won't need that many for players though but they are smart enough to strafe dodge.

I have 2 Spotted Whips, made from the boss from Shrine of Amana. They deal mainly poison damage and I further imbued them with poison from McDuff. Coupled with my high poison bonus from being a Dex character, each whip attack delivers 250+150 poison damage, three clean hits will poison enemy NPCs and deal ~1050 damage. You can also equip the Ratbro covenant ring for +50 bonus poison damage.

Note, poison damage only means the ease of which to poison enemies NOT increase the damage dealt by the poison. Damage deal from poison is fixed around ~1050 no matter what poisoned you. Increasing poison damage means it takes less attacks to poison them.

Again, I don't know how to pvp. I suck that much apparently. I can't even hurt anyone without getting killed. Even with the rapier and poison I'm still killed instantly.

Is magic the way to go for Smelter Demon? Trying to get Lucatiel to survive the fight (in NG) but my current Dex build isn't quite doing it. Boss himself isn't a problem, but seems I need to beat him FAST. Saw a video of a guy beating him in like 45 seconds but pretty sure he was using end game spells...

Wondering if I should respec and get some good spells.

Same thing with the Lost Sinner, although I'm going to try the red eye ring on that one.

Stop trying to rely on gimmicks like Ricard's Rapier poison and learn to fight.

I'm trying to get chunks ASAP. People said the rapier was good, well, I just suck. I have lost every single fight. 30 matches, and I haven't even scratched anyone. That's how bad I am apparently. I can't attack anyone with it, the strong attack misses every single time, and the regular attack misses or does almost no damage. I try to ask on other forums how am I supposed to use this weapon. Their replies "git gud". I dunno, if it were so OP, then why is nobody using them in PvP?

I have been using a bastard sword +10 as my main weapon for PVP, I find it kind hard against magic, one dude got me for good with a spell that made an eruption in the ground, almost OHKO me, but I began to panic and died at the end P: that's the only time that I felt like I did nothing

Rapiers have too narrow a hurtbox, making catching people at the tail end of their rolls much harder then if your weapons swung broadly. You'll also miss enemies when they are simply strafing side to side because of lag.

I don't have any specific advice but I admire your persistence in light of the various indignities (bad luck with item drops) and hardships (PvP with a rapier, various frustrating boss experiences) you have endured and shared with us. I have a feeling once you've defeated the game you'll look back with a massive sense of accomplishment in light of your perseverance. Kudos.

The R2 attack is extremely telegraphed, easy to dodge, and has a ton of recovery time. The regular attacks don't do much damage, have almost no poise damage and a narrow hitbox. You picked a weapon that relies on a gimmick to insta-poison someone which is why I said you should pick a normal weapon and learn how to fight.

I can't even catch people. I wait for opening, and there are no openings, or I do such little damage it don't even matter.

So stop using a rapier. They barely do any damage with people with armor.

Even if you manage to poison someone there's a good chance they'll kill you before the poison takes them out.

Equip the Leo Ring and a shield with high stability just in case you need it. Two-hand that rapier, stay out of attack range, bait attacks and counter.

Rapiers have been both buffed and nerfed in DS2, counter-attack windows are MUCH larger this time around and counter damage has been buffed, but rapiers require a clean path to the target and planted feet this time around, or else you will miss.

EDIT: They also don't suck, they just have a learning curve similar to the ultra-greatswords in this game.

Any advice for mirror knight? I'm stuck on him. I can't seemingly do any damage to him. he constantly summons his NPC buddies, and I die too quickly.

Beat the fuck out of his shield when he starts summoning. I didn't let him summon a single time when I killed him. You can knock him out of it quite easily.

As a former rapier user, I will tell you to stop using rapiers. Rapiers suck.
It's funny because the estoc (same moveset as rapier but just more AR and maybe a bit longer) is god-tier in Demon's Souls PvP. Literally the single best PvP weapon. Now apparently it's a harmless toothpick, haha.
