Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

So I feel like I'm about halfway through DS2, bit curious about how open the world actually is. So far it feels like Demon's Souls in that there's a hub and different branches, but the branches don't join eachother like DaS did. That said, my friend said he reached one area a completely different way to me so there must be alternative paths around.

Only disappointing thing so far has been the bosses. So far almost all of them have been very standard and pretty easy -- too many I've killed without dying once. And despawning enemies is a very sad 'addition' to the series, I'm really not sure why it was added -- to force people to play NG+ instead of grinding, maybe? The world, combat, and general changes are amazing, however. Cannot wait for the PC release so I can actually care about what I'm doing to my character.

One question, I'm using a +10 Gyrm Axe, is it worth upgrading to a Gyrm Greataxe once I hit 50 strength? The base stats were the same for the two so I'm wondering if only difference between the two were the class of weapons/animations. I'd only bother upgrading if there is a major damage increase. Loving having a decent axe to play with, they've always been my favourite weapons over swords/maces and neither DeS or DaS had any decent looking and powerful axes.

Also, I've only been invaded once! No idea why but it's sad :( I love being invaded.

Only area I can think of would be Lost Bastille, which can be reached from Forest of Fallen Giants and No-Man's Wharf.

I think that's the exact area. I went via No-Man's Wharf, he went through the Forest. I'm still not acquainted with the area names, jeez I want more time to play.

God damn those Drakekeepers with greathammers might be the hardest mob in the game besides the godsalamanders in Forest of the Fallen Giants. They never stop swinging those massive things around and hit like trucks. It's hard to get a hit in and not get plastered afterwards.

Can someone confirm something about the
Flexile Sentry
boss:

Does the water continues to rise up in the boss arena? i swear i just saw it on a stream.

I don't even know if I wanna bother with
Vendrick.
He has 8500 HP and I only do 9 damage per hit? Hahahaha yeah no. I can do it, but it'll just take way too long.

The only way I could beat them is with a 100% damage reduction greatshield. I guess you could snipe them with range or spells.

[edit]Oh never mind. Yes, those guys are the worst.

[edit2] Actually, almost all of the enemies there are tough.

Last time I beat him I did notice that I started moving slower the longer the boss went on, but it didn't last long enough to be seriously impeded.

It does. Eventually it'll get waifs high and make the fight incredibly difficult. Obviously, you want to make the fight go as quickly as possible.

I hate the evil person that put the little hole of lava into the back of this Iron King boss fight platform.

The first time I did the fight, I got summoned by someone. We went in with just the 2 of us. I immediately looked up at the boss and started moving to the right...right into the hole haha. That host probably hated me for that.

Nashandra
downed and the credits have rolled. All I have left is
Darklurker
, farming souls to stock up on chunks, and then it's off to the magical adventure that is NG+.

Love it. Such an awesome little detail.

So I met a oldman in a wheel chair on the green poison area, then I met him again in the ruins, where is the next spot I can fin him? I am sure
he is the abyss covenant leader

Oh god, the undead crypt. Everything is killing me so fast in here. The difficulty has seriously ramped up. A hundred enemies at the boss door? Infinitely respawning super fast ghosts? Maaan...any advice?

Drangleic Castle.
Near the first bonfire. There's a
hole in the ground in the room farthest away from you and to the left (Ruin's Sentinel inside).

In the long hallway to the boss door,
drop off the stairs and kill the zombie under where you enter the hallway. It rings the bell that spawns the ghosts. Don't accidentally hit the bell yourself, of course.

Ok this will sound stupid, but are ng++ souls the same as ng+? As in only the ng souls are different? I ask because I want to use
the rotten
ng+ soul for the crypt greatsword, but I also need that soul for a spell (to get the trophy).
Also, I FINALLY got all the stuff in the fire in
Iron Keep
! Didn't even lose any health!
Some bosses now give 2 Souls in NG+. You will need the 2nd new soul from boss for certain spells or items.
hm, must be a NG+ thing. they played like regular AI.
Its random. Sometimes it will be a player that your boss summons to invade you.
yeah, that's why people wear it

lol
:P

Hear that bell ringing in the room before the boss fog? Remember what you had to do in the pit with the ghosts.

Anyone else feel this game is too long? I mean, I'm at 50 hours and I've still got three areas to go. I feel the fatigue and I have no drive to see it through to the end.

A lot of people don't know that those adds have the Ring of Thorns effect, so they end up murdering their own health trying to attack the enemies from the front.

Yeah I figured that out pretty quick. The fight, though, turned into a no holds barred melee mess. Those jerks with the FS ended up getting killed super fast. One summon ended up getting taken out, but after that the fight was super easy.

Honestly, i want more games this gen to be this long. Almost every game goes from 6 to 15 hours at average.

If you don't mind farming, try killing the
dragon acolytes
in
Aldia's Keep
and
archdrake priests
in
Shrine of Amana
to extinction. They drop petrified dragon bones and twinkling titanite respectively, and spawn really close to the right bonfires.

I've actually already hunted those areas to extinction. I love farming.

undead Crypt is really kicking my ass. Is it just me, or is this place really tough as nails? That's a weird thing I noticed. Nobody is having any troubles with the boss or the dungeon. Weird, because the boss is hard as nails.

I found it to be rather short and sweet. I really have no advice for you other than
to break all the statues the ghosts come out of. Those don't come back ever. So no more ghosts except in the hall right before the boss if you let the zombie ring the bell.

Game fucking changer. It's short, but, it's a pain. The very moment I walk in and I get a greeting by 3 guys blasting magic at me.

Just lost about a million in souls in NG++ because I got overconfident. LOL
At that point I'd just obsessive compulsive wear the life rings. They're dirt cheap to repair at that point and you can easily stockpile those souls with nothing to spend them on unless you're maxing out a bunch of gear for the sake of it (good enough reason to me, love to see how some of that stuff actually works out.)

Man, I keep trying to replay this game but I just can't.. I'm gutted. I really wanted to love this game. Not to mention it cost £40.

Oh well, back to DS1.

Oh, I'm just using this character to get to drangleic to pick up my final achievements. I had already upgraded all the stats and bought everything that I could, so it doesn't really bother me that I lost a million. I'm only left with the final and hardest great soul. Funny story, after I lost the million, I beat a few bosses, got up to 800k, and then promptly lost that as well.

I used a bonfire ascent on the 3rd bonfire in huntsman copse to get
the special +55% casting ring
the boss gives you at NG+

Damn I'm getting my ass kicked hard. Not only do I get almost one-hit killed, there are suddenly
two black phantoms roaming around
- I'm hardly reaching it to the boss room.

Do those
black phantoms
also dissapear after you beat them xx time?

Go through the cave with the skeletons instead. That's the easy path.

Yeah, this. In 1 I didn't want to depend on them because I knew they were finite, but here it's just like whatever.

Plus effigies being finite means I wear mine 24/7 when not invading.

Unfortunate timing on the maintenance, was just starting to get the hang of being a sunbro.

I was camping out around the boss of Undead Purgatory and helping people out, but the last few people I tried to help out before maintenance seemed like they were in NG+ because the skeletons were hitting pretty hard.

As someone still on their first playthrough, is it possible to get summoned into someone else's NG+ instance? I'm around level 90 so probably a bit high for this boss, but the first few seemed normal.

I've noticed people being one-shot when I summon them into my ng+ games, so there might be something wonky there.

This is gonna piss some people off as I'm sure it's been discussed here, but after installing Windows 8 I can't fucking run Dark Souls.

How do I fix this? I've already uninstalled all GFWL programs and reinstalled latest versions.
