I love how they improved the weapon enhancement and made it much more intuitive. Makes upgrading fun actually. Also, when is infusing actually useful besides being a little cool? When does it actually prevail?

I prefer the washing pole by a fair margin - the blacksteel katana is actually my off-hand weapon on that hand since the washing pole has fairly weak durability. I'm trying to get far enough into my NG+ so I can get a second one already :D

It's a cool weapon indeed. I also use a ring to slow degradation when I use it.

Used that ring to get more invasions last night. Didn't go so well. Lol. 1st ended in a duel. 2nd ended in me falling off a cliff. 3rd one ended with me backed into a corner and getting my butt beat. Fairly fun. Haha

Will attempt to go after
king
and co before NG++

Do you have to be human to get invaded or does it not matter? I rejoined way of the blue and put on the foes ring to try to get some invasions going along with some help, but only got invaded by an NPC Phantom once :\

I think the key with smelter demon is to be super agressive at the start and dish out as much damage as you can before he powers up to level 3. It seems like it's on a timer, and not damaged based. Is that accurate?

It doesn't matter. You can be invaded in both human and hollow forms.

Also, certain NPC invaders will only appear in Offline Mode. If you're online, you may never see some of them.

What ring?

What ring?

There's a ring that increases the chance of being invaded. I know a merchant sells it, not sure if it's the Cat or the Brotherhood of Blood guy or someone else.

Nah, it's based on damage.

Many questions!

How did you get two Manslayers, was it via NG+? Did you infuse them with poison or do you use their natural abilities? If the former, how are they holding up with the damage reduction?

Yep, NG+ and I infused them both with poison which does drop the Dex scaling from A to B. I'm not too sure how much damage I'm losing but the boost to poison infliction is excellent in PVP; The ease at which I can poison people has given me an edge a lot of the time.

If my calculations are correct I can dish out ~570 poison damage in two hits (power stance L1 attacks), which has poisoned everyone I've been up against in PVP so far.

I'm curious as to what the regions are for PVP. I'm in Australia and have it set to restricted, but is Australia just getting shoved into the UK and Europe? I haven't noticed any difference in latency since switching to restricted online play.

Edit: Also, some advice for people using katanas: Buy 99 repair powders from Wellager in the castle, because those stupid things break real fast.

Fuck that dude. Out of all the NPCs and enemy characters, I hate him the most. Too over powered in my opinion. Too close? He can one shot you. Too far, he releases that hex cloud or whatever it is and if it hits you once, all the subsequent hits are going to land as well. I pretty much had to cheese him every fight, because straight up wasn't working.

Next time, take the hint from the many messages around the lever and don't release him. :lol

Amazing! Thanks, Cannon Goose.

I'm collecting Katanas myself, so this is super useful. I'm dual wielding Blacksteels at the moment, but hoping to get a pair of each type going by the end of NG+. I will definitely try the poison infusion on dual Manslayers, sounds amazing. Still a long way to go before I get there.

So I beat the Covetous Demon yesterday , bastard ate my equipment (I was so not expecting that)

me neither, I got help from a sunbro for that fight, and the thing just eated me, I thought it was an insta kill or something, but then I am naked, my character is female so it was a pretty anime-eske situation, I bet sunbro nose bleed, I equipped only my sword fast and revenge was granted for shaming my knightly girl

The past couple days I haven't been able to log into the Dark Souls servers even though I'm logged into psn. Is this because of maintenance or something because I really want to experience the online of this game and it's really turning me off. I have yet to find a solution to this problem.

Lost Sinner NG+...
Very fun fight. I had a phantom the first time, we were doing well but she got me with a nasty stab combo. Demolished her the second time while the phantom helped
distract the pyromancers
. I still haven't done this fight
with the lights on
yet. I think I'll stick around and coop this boss for a while.

No, there are small maintenance windows that are listed here and when you log in:
http://farfire.darksoulsii.com/pc/

Are you getting an error message?

The smelter demon wouldn't be so bad if I could summon some help. I know that the one npc can be called but he dies like halfway through leaving me to get slaughtered.

Wear the red-eye ring and it can help keep focus on you instead of the summon.

The other day was having PSN network issues while doing NG+ - I was planning on skipping The Smelter figuring he'd rip me up. Decided 'screw it, lets give it a go!', summoned Lucy, put on my red eye ring and went to town. She almost lived...almost

Now and then he would still get focused on her - but kept a did a pretty good job at keeping the attention on me.

Thanks. I'll buy it - sounds fun.

Yeah. I like to think of it as sort of a reverse invasion without the risk of sin. Obviously only thing at risk is if you die and then become hollow. But by the time you are in NG+ like me, you will have like 40ish human effigies. And plus anyways, at this point they drop like candy or I could just go to the shrine to become human again.

The 2 people I faced yesterday (the 1st two encounters were same person) had quite a good resistance to fire. My Forbidden Sun did like little damage. Sunlight Spear did a good bit though.

I wish I could play that long. I'm only at 45 hours in Drangleic Castle.

Wait, you played 7-8 hours a day and work? Tell me your secret!! Don't tell me you have a wife and kids.

I'm at about 110 hours - work full-time, have a BF. The only reason my play time isn't higher is because he's more addicted to the game than me and trying to trade off play-time can be a battle.... I've almost been tempted to buy a second PS3 because of this. If it wasn't for the PC release in a few weeks - I probably would.

Every time I read something like this I dread doing the Lucatiel questline to completion.

I rarely bothered with the full NPC questlines in Dark Souls.. having to keep NPCs alive during a boss fight for trophies is the biggest troll From has ever done.

lol glad to see I'm not the only one , checked on Youtube and turns out there is a strategy to kill him in like 15 secs

So I beat the
Covetous Demon yesterday , bastard ate my equipment (I was so not expecting that) and then I was like WTF do I do and then I beated him naked and bare handed took me a while but his pattern was easy enough and got him first try and then I realized that my equipment was actually sent back to my inventory so I could have requiped my stuff while fightning him -_-

But I had great fun !
Wow, do you lose the equipment forever?

I've got about...15? now. I've just been putting them in my box at the bonfire to save for I don't know what. I'm not a Dark Souls expert but I think these are supposed to be used for making special weapons? I haven't found the guy who does that, though.

I'm around SL105. I think I'm overleveled for where I am (but I like it that way). Should I just go ahead and eat these souls and level up? I'm currently using a bastard sword +8 and having pretty good luck with it. Or is there just one soul in particular that I should keep?

I can't decided if I want to head next into INT or Faith. Seems like for proper mastery, I'll need both, though. Suggestions are welcome. Also need recommendations for staffs and chimes.

Forbidden Sun is a bad spell anway. for 3 slots it does pathetic damage and can still be easily dodged.

But it has a cool name, and that's all that matters :P

Yes, i think that every boss soul can be used to trading weapons and/or spells.
Straid and Ornifex offers these trades. Straid is in stone form in the cell right before you enter Sinner's Rise, so you need a Branch Of Yore to unstone him. Ornifex is located in Shaded Forrest. You need to use a Branch Of Yore on one of the stoned enemies, kill him and then you get a key. At the first trap (when the floor collapses), there is door down there. Open it with the key and talk to Ornifex inside. After this, go to Brightstone Cove Tseldora, and she will be in a room near the sand vortex.

nope, you can re-equip instantly, the boss won't let you do it with ease of course
Ah ok, its good that you wont lose the equipment at least. Thanks for the info =)

I got 3 of the 4 Lord Souls
beat the spider, the prisoner, the eater guy. the level up lady told me to go to the castle, but I'm not sure where she means, I still have not found the "seal of the king" or whatever,

Can anyone point me where to go now?

Idk, I've had plenty of success with it before doing massive damage to people in PvP. So it has come in handy for me. 3 slots is a bit much, but I have 13 slots total, so just a small drop in the bucket. I've never really seen anyone dodge it yet, at least not up close. Esp since it fires off so quickly. From the distance, sure.

I'm mostly a pure Faith build now with 80 Faith, 35 Int, 75 Atonement and such. Lightning spells, esp Sunlight Spear do a lot of damage. I also tend to keep Pyromancy build on me too. For Miricles, I use a Dragon Chime gotten from
Darkdiver Grandahl from beating the boss Darklurker
. When maxed out at +5, it does 250 Lightning base damage at S scaling. I ended up infusing it with Lightning, so does little more damage now. Fast spell casting too.

But what I'm asking, does each boss soul link to one specific spell/weapon? How am I supposed to know which to save? And if I'm already happy with my bastard sword +8 (which I plan to keep upgrading as I can), then do I even need these special weapons? Or will my bastard sword eventually become useless?

West from Ruined Fork Road bonfire in SHaded woods.

You need to go to
Iron Keep. You get there through Harvest Valley and Earthen Peak.

Ah ok. I'm not 100% sure if every boss soul is linked to a certain weapon or spell, but i think it is. You definitelly need more than one specific boss soul if you want to get every weapon and spell, so i would keep all boss souls.

No, you dont really need any of the boss weapons to do fine in the game. I'm on New Game+++ now and i still use standard equipment. I'm using some sorcery (
Crystal Soul Spear
) that can only be obtained by trading souls though.

Ah that's quite an investment. Seems like keeping stats at 40 is a notion of the past? I have the Dragon Chime, so at least one step down lol.

But it has a cool name, and that's all that matters :P

Invest evenly in INT/FTH for hexes. Bring them both to 40 or higher. Destroy everything. Except the Lion mages in Shaded Ruins because they don't flinch at any magic.

The archdrake chime / staff from Felkin (merchant in Huntsman's Copse) is a decent starting chime/staff for hexes.

When you have 20FTH and intelligence go back and get the Sunset staff and the Hexer's Set (the hood gives more casts and adds +1 to INT and FTH)

Idol's Chime - From the miracle merchant in Heide / Majula. She gives it to you when you have 30 FTH.

Caitha's Chime - in Drangleic Castle (imbue with Dark for better scaling)

Chime of Want - End game / NG+ chime, trade
Nashandra
's Soul to Straid. Imbue to Dark +5.

Other chimes are better for lightning damage. These are just the best one for hexes (I think, anyway.)

Also join the Abyss covenant for the abyss seal; 20% damage to hexes at the cost of some health per cast. You also get another copy of great resonant soul and resonant soul for ranking up in the covenant. These hexes and scraps of life are my mainstays.

Thanks for all of the info. Seems like FROM put a lot of effort into magic and it seems like the more rewarding playstyle. I'm thinking of not respecing and just keep leveling up lol. Just do everything.

Does anyone know why I can't join the Brotherhood of Blood? I declined the covenant leader's offer and now he keeps saying something about me not being suitable. Am I boned until NG++?

I'm like almost lv 240. lol. I'm just going up and up and up. Even though each new level up is like now 170,000 souls, it's really really easy to get that many in NG+. Should be even easier in NG++ I'm sure. I know some here like to limit themselves to like 140 or 150/etc. But for me, I like to see how high I can get.

Dio you not have any more token of spites on you?

You need a token of spite in your inventory. If you have one of those.. I don't know, maybe he's just pissed you declined him the first time.

I'm ~164 on my hexer character and I feel like I might as well keep leveling too. This is the character I plan on getting all the pyros/hexes/spells with, might as well be able to beast with all of them. Do you have any trouble finding co-op or invasions at that level?

It barely does over 200 damage for me. Don't feel the oomph, in particular for 3 slots. but yeah, if you already have 13 slots lmao. I use Flame Swathe and Chaos Storm. Flame Swathe with manual aim can bait them into so much shit, it's glorious. And Chaos Storm behind a wall / pillar / under the stiar cases is just too funny. It's also somewhat save as it surrounds you with pillars that knock targets down, at least in close proximity.

btw, with 44 vigor and 3rd ring you have EXACTLY 2.000 hp.

Depends on your other stats!

Not at all. Co-op is still easy for me with my Soul Memory of 9m+ in NG+. Did find a dead spot at the one
Chariot
boss though with no summons there. But that might be because noone was there.. But finding summons anywhere before most bosses is still fairly easy (some less then then others, depending on how isolated), but me being summoned is still instant everywhere.

Someone did say they had 14m+ and had issue in NG+, so that does leave me a little worried. Though I'd likely be in NG++ soon anyways.

Thanks to my 3rd ring, Life Ring +2, I have just over 2,000 HP. lol

Perhaps my Fire bonus/pyro build is a little better? Who knows. But yeah, Flame Swathe and Chaos Storm are obviously better and do so much damage. I only used Forbidden Sun on a narrow ledge/bridge on Heide's Tower of Flame where they literally couldn't avoid it (unless they wanted to roll into the ocean). I think the 2 people yesterdya had a bit of magic/faith build in them from the weapons/attacks they were using against me, so that limited the damage a lot. Flame Swathe with manual aim is a good idea.
