Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

I assure you I am dead serious.

It's in the top 3 Zelda games! :p

Is that so?

is it weird I'd rather experience the CD-I games for the first time than play through SS again?
That's not really weird to me. New experiences are pretty often more interesting than revisiting old ones. I'd say the same.

I tried to play through the Zelda series all at once, and I couldn't be bothered to go back through TP. I don't think I'd want to go back through SS either, even though I liked it. Modern console Zeldas have so much fluff. ;_;

Totally thought this was a new move for Toon Link before I saw the caption. Cool to see more items coming from actual games this time around and not just a load of Kirby or Mario power ups either.

It has been mentiond before but another problem with updates and patches is that Namco-Bandai will liekly part ways with nintendo and Sakurai after this game is complete. They could always have another inhouse studio handle such updates though if they really wanted to do it. And who knows Namco might be obligated through their contract to help out with any issues for a period of time.

If anything, Smash will open the show. They aren't going to save a game everyone knows is coming (in a few months(?)) for the closer.

Yeah, they typically start with something announced but not revealed (skyward sword, pikmin 3) and close w/ something unannounced (Metroid Other M, Nintendo Land), but they have broken the mold a bit. Last year they started with pokemon x/y (announced, shown) and ended with smash (announced, not shown). Actually, last year's E3 was nothing but announced (but not always shown) stuff, which was kinda disappointing. The only thing not announced was donkey kong, but we knew rare's game would be shown.

Edit: oops, meant retro! my bad!

Yeah, i'm really really worried about patches and updates. If there aren't any, we could see a couple scenarios which are rather unfortunate.

Scenario A: they make a competitive fighter like melee, but really only a small handful of characters are viable

Scenario B: The game needs a few more tweaks to be competitive, but it isn't there yet, so it remains like brawl and gets ignored by fans in the longterm.

Updates would make the game have longer legs, and even allow for additional DLC to be a viable way of making profit for nintendo. Rather than make us wait another 6-8 years for another smash, they could provide yearly updates with additional characters/stages, and people would keep buying and playing.

With everyone having a great laugh at how amazing Ike Climbers is, I'm sure Sakurai will be compelled to announce the return of Ike to the new smash.

Right? Isn't this how this works? I just take completely disconnected things and place all of my hope in them?

Was Skyward Sword that bad for you?

I consider it mediocre at best with some flashes of brilliance (anything with the Timeshift Stones), but the entire thing was such a slog to get through thanks to the padding/Fi and I found the execution of the overworld/plot/most of the soundtrack quite poor.

Pretty much this. My only knowledge of the CD-I games are the now-classic cutscenes and they'd pepper what is very likely hilariously awful gameplay.

No, it's Ike and Ice Climbers dual reveal of course!

EVEN BETTER.

Hype train is go for this week. If we don't get Ike or Ice Climbers this week, I'll be sure to get really frustrated and vent my frustrations at Sakurai in this thread and on Miiverse.

On SS: Parts of it may have been a slog, but no game is sloggier than TWW!

I be trollin'

Sounds about right, and wouldn't you know it? Path of Radiance's 9th anniversary in Japan is coming in nearly three weeks! The perfect GAF prediction.

Aww, I actually liked the soundtrack for the game. I do agree that the game could've been cut down a couple more hours but overall, I still liked the use of 1:1 swordplay. If they just made enemies more varied in how they defended, it would have been perfect.

If we don't get a character this week I'm burning someone's house down and kidnapping their dog

Jokes on you, I don't have a dog. But my doge laughs at you!

Make it happen Samurai!

This makes a lot of sense, and I would say was even hopeful after they released extra courses for NSMB 2. (whatever the gold one was). But then they didn't do anything similar for NSBM U, or Mario Kart 3DS, or Nintendoland, Pikmin 3, etc. So... who knows. It's kinda crazy that Nintendo does this one-a-generation games, and hasn't really embraced DLC as a way to expand that.

I hope we have no patches (unless there's some sort of save deleting/soft locking glitch).

A) What's wrong with a small handful of characters viable? As long as it's more than one or two, seems fine to me. If it really is just one, that character will just get banned. But I guess the bigger point is, if you're playing in a way that viability matters, more of the fun should be from outplaying the person. The character matchup is seconday by a lot (at least to me).

I don't think this is a huge concern though; with every Smash game so far, there have been a variety of viable characters. Half the 64 characters, the top 8 or so Melee characters, and the top 8 to 10 Brawl guys. Even with standouts like Pikachu, Fox, and MK/Snake, other characters are still viable and used.

B) If the game isn't competitive at launch, it's because they don't want it to be. After Brawl, they see how people react to that. What's done now is up to them... but I don't think they'll patch in new movement options or extra hit stun, really.

Smash doesn't need updates for long legs, it just needs to be good *points to Melee*. People love the series, the characters, and how easy to pick up the game is. If quality gameplay is there, people will continue to play it.

Why would we want yearly updates instead of a new game 6-8 years from now? That would take all the fun out of it for me, if I couldn't count on this game to be the same tomorrow. Maybe if they released them in discrete editions kinda like Street Fighter has been... but please, no major balance patches.

I hated how the world was more like sections instead a wholemap, and gaaaaaaah they bring back the "light tears" searching from TP but in silent hill with armors, plus the way how you had to beat an outside dungeon, without a boss, to go inside a dungeon with a boss(that you fought two dungeons before) and the swimming part to get the song.... ugh

I thought the Silent Realm was one of the best parts. Pulse pounding when you're looking for that last tear and all those guardians were after you.

Yea having DLC over Smash 4's lifespan would be great for both Nintendo and gamers so I agree with everthing you said on that matter. And even if the patches were for serious glitches they have the means to fix it so the should take full advantage of it.

I'd like to be excited about smash brothers year after year, rather than once every 6 years. Smash hype is the greatest hype.

I'm actually ok if they don't do regular balance updates, but being able to fix game-breaking bugs, software exploits, and broken characters (things that are basically bad enough to ban characters from tournaments) would be ideal. That could be done once or twice, and that's fine.

I hope nintendo is learning a bit, but only time will tell.

There's no dedicated Smash team, though. I don't think there's a good way to have people dedicated to making Smash content after release.

If Nintendo were to make DLC for Smash Bros., I'd like to see them put out a physical complete edition including the DLC characters. The big problem with DLC is that eventually, the store goes down or the DLC is otherwise made unavailable (see: MvC3).

Yeah, that's the other problem.

Seeing all this talk about new characters, there isn't a hint of Captain Falcon yet is there? :( Three of my friends are obsessed with him in a non-serious way and I keep telling them "The knee will come don't worry!" and they keep replying: "Just watch, Nintendo will screw this one up..." so it would be nice to put the argument to rest as funny as it is :P Though seriously, Nintendo has no reason to remove him right?

He was a secret character in Brawl, too. There's no way they're cutting such a fan-favorite character.

He'll be there. He's one of Smash's most iconic characters.

wasn't he one of the most disliked characters of sakurai? hence why he sucks in brawl, thou I love the character, I know is unlikely they'll drop it, is one of the original 12, and such an iconic figure in smash, I mean, the Knee!

The original secret characters aren't going anywhere.

lol wut?

I mean, Sakurai plays Ganondorf apparently and Dorf stinks in Brawl too.

They are probably waiting to announce him at the same time they reveal the new F-zero for Wii U during next Nintendo direct.
Pls Iwata.
