Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

What area are you at to pvp as a blue sentinel? I've used the cracked blue eye orb everywhere and it always says "unable to find another player" blah blah.
I'm usually in the shaded ruins. I often get that message as well, but I just spam the blue orb until I won't get that message. Usually 3-5 tries are enough for getting an invasion. Attempting to use it is fast, at least.

Did I screw something up when I accidentally
killed both Pate and Creighton? I saw them fighting and realized who they were, I figured the game wanted me to choose a side and intervene so I got a Flame Swathe off on Creighton but it killed Pate too... whoops. Did I screw myself out of anything?

i don't like how from put undead in the D
ragon Aerie. doesn't fit the mood of the area. do they have a fetish for ugly undead or what? disgusting. why not put the golden dragon warriors in there instead?
they're fun to fight.

I’m wearing Havels Armour and using the Tower shield is there anything better than that to wear/use which might be lighter but just as effective (Or better)?

(Gone for a strength build)

Ok, so yeah, Wrath of the Gods seems kind of cheap to me.

edit: im not even salty, I'm the one trying it out since I got rank 2 in the sentinels.

Small question regarding ranking up in the bell keepers covenant: do you automatically get a message and your reward after the necessary kills or do you have to talk to the little guy in the tower ?

You have to talk to the guy to get the rewards, but if it is your first covenant that you are bringing to level 3 you will get an achievement after 100 wins, indicating that it is time to claim your bell keeper's set. I got a bit confused after using titanite chunks on various things, finding extra ones as treasures throughout the game and so on, but the achievement told me exactly when to stop (obviously, will not work if you have already brought sunbros or some other simple covenant to level 3)

This maybe classed as a noob question put what is the general opinion on upgrading?

I'm SL49 and going for full-on strength (just beaten
Old Dragonslayer
and about to face
Dragonrider
). Currently raising DEX so I can use the Drangleic Greatsword.

I've noticed though that the Drangleic set (sword and armour) requires Twinkling Titanite to upgrade, which I'm just not finding ATM (albeit I'm only just about to head to No Man's Wharf).

So, is it better to upgrade vanilla equipment for a much lower soul/resource cost... Or just go all out and stick with my current set (which, so far, seems awesome)?

Is matchmaking based only on soul memory?
I ask because I'm SL28 and being invaded by players who seems to be at least SL100 based on the weapons they wield and the amount of HP they have.

Sorry if this is a stupid question. I'm still in NG and didn't check the wiki yet.

Good lord.
I beat [late game area]
Dangleic Castle
last night for the first time. Soloing the game as much as I can and I'm doing much better than I was thinking so far I guess...

So, instead of being invaded by a low SL now i can be invaded by a low SM. Solving a problem and making another one

Witnessing it right now with my current character. So, pretty much YES.

Yes, but in theory at least, a low SM is supposed to mean a low SL, since SM goes up as soon as you touch souls of any kind. You wouldn't get to a high SL without collecting lots of souls right? Thus increasing SM. But of course, somehow people cheat.

in Dark Souls 1 people keep their Sl low so they can invade you with basic equipment with lightning/fire.

Now in Dark Souls 2 you can do the same thing, you simply need to not kill normal enemy but go directly to the boss and you can stay in low SM.

Well, that's true I suppose.

Sup guys, what do red crystal lizards drop?? I killed one and got summoned away before I could pick up the loot. I did a decapitate animation to the host.

Also if I go through the Grave of Saints,
is there any limit to how many times I will be summoned in to somebody else's world? I can't be bothered to keep being interrupted, I'll run out of spells eventually!

Thanks

Anybody please?

If you're going with strength there's better greatswords than drangelic which are easier to upgrade that scale with strength more.

The bastard sword although being double C's is far easier to upgrade than the drangelic one. You also get the mastadon greatsword later which is divine for strength builds.

Use your
Ring of Soul Protection
more often. This will save you alot of Human Effigies. Because if you die
the ring breaks but can be repaired for only 3000 souls
. You should have one by now! With this I have still >30 human effigies and I have already passed the area you are in.

Yeah, I have it just not used it yet but now I will. Thanks you for the tip.

Now with my SL28 character I'm being ganked with high level players and I have no way to prevent that.
I have a high soul memory because I was helping others in co-op and exploring a lot without leveling up.

I don't know how I feel about this but for sure it will make arranging co-op/pvp with someone you know much harder like this since you can't prevent soul memory from increasing.

Fortunately, people rarely get invaded in NG. Anyway, if they have a low SM, they haven't done much and likely don't have ridiculously overpowered equipment for their level.

how high is your sm?

Do you need to spend souls for them to count towards your sm?

I call the opposite. It was fun to invade people in Dark Souls 1. You fight people with the equipment of that level. Now you start invading when everyone has their max equipment. removing, for me, the fun.

I've only had a single invasion in 25 hours of play, and it was an Avelyn wielding punk who shredded me from afar. I have no answer to that as a Melee...

Twinkling Titanite is one of the rare upgrade materials so I wouldn't upgrade something that needs it that early in the game as you might want to use it to upgrade something else later in the game. Also I would suggest never to upgrade armor that needs twinkling titanite to upgrade as armor upgrading seems to be more or less pointless.

Downed the Ancient Dragon in round 3! Owe it to the faith build. I'd imagine all melee vs this guy is a long, gruelish nightmare. Time for King V. I outta add that Kalameet is still the best dragon fight, this one was alright.

I found upgrading my medium to light armor to be hugely beneficial. The Alva set, which I used for most of my playthrough, almost doubles in defense when +10'd according to this chart.
And since Titanite and souls are so abundant later in the game, it's a waste NOT to upgrade armor.

Yeah, it hits way too hard right now. It counters melee so hard.
Yeah it's pretty bs, I've seen it a surprising amount while dueling in the Blue Sentinels.

I've figured out, you can actually roll through it if you time it correctly and with enough adaptability. The timing is difficult and the startup animation is pretty fast so it's hard to react to it, suddenly, but if you can predict it you can get through it. As it is now, I still have too many misses when trying to dodge it. I'll probably end up putting a video up showing a lot of dodge timings and stuff at different adaptability levels, it's something I've been meaning to do, to combat WotG.

Using Twinkling Titanite to max out my Old Whip was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made, just sayin'.

Yes, Kalameet was super fun.

SOLD!

Yeah I've not seen much cause to upgrade armour at all so far. 100% physical shield and a hell of a lot of dodging seem to be working so far.

Thanks a lot guys. Time to start upgrading!!!

This game. Seriously :)

I know how I feel about it - It's worse in every way than DS1 matchmaking.

Seems like getting +10 is beneficial atleast in that set. And yes using regular titanite to upgrade armor is good thing to do but using Twinkling Titanite isn't IMO because it is so rare and I find it more useful to upgrade weapons than armor pieces.

Hmm, my Alva is at +8, but if you guys are saying it's definitely worth a +10 then I'll do it. As consensus shows here, I found upgrading armor to be most useless since I dodge so much. Nonetheless, I should stop being a cheap ass with slabs. Old habits die hard lol.
