Figure GAF |OT| Where has all of my money gone?

Well, I make it a general habit not to use credit cards. I actually didn't have one till recently when I got one of those Best Buy ones so that I could pick up a new TV right away and get the 16 month no interest. I'm paying it off real quick anyways and then I plan on either canceling it or locking it away somewhere hard to get to. Normally I would not have had to use one had my company not had to do a 1 month layoff for the first time in 14 years at the same fucking time as I was moving into a new place and needed a bunch of new furniture and shit. Talk about timing.

Don't cancel your credit card. Don't ever cancel any credit cards. If you must, just don't use them. You need longstanding credit history to establish and maintain a good credit score.

Ideally, everyone should get a credit card as soon as possible in their lives as long as they're responsible.

Word. Getting a CC with no credit history is the bigger hurdle. Get someone to cosign a card with you, and you can start from there. Once you establish credit, you're fine so long as you make your payments on time. As long as you do that, the CC companies don't really give a shit.

Heh kinda annoyed at the marks rubbed off on the lower back. Not that you would ever see it with the top and the hair covering it pretty much most of it. Still I think that detail is nice.

One of my favorite figures of all time. Such a great face - sultry yet fierce. That hair that doesn't quit. Incredible musculature. She's one of a kind. 10/10

It's not necessary to own a CC to establish credit. I managed to get my score to 720 without ever owning one. Built the score on student loans, renting for several years, utility bills, so when I bought my first new car this summer they did a credit check and was like 720 wat, no problem there, paid the car in full minus a 7000 dollar loan I took from them in order to get a 500 dollar "rebate" and paid off the 7000 in 3 months thus only getting about 50 dollars in interest. The car ended up being cheaper because I took the loan and then paid it off real quick but part of the deal is you cant pay it off till 3 months pass.

Then you're an exception, not the rule. There are other lines of credit, like loans, but for most people it will be that credit card they pick up in their late teens.

Regardless of how you've established your credit, canceling your card with lower your credit score temporarily. There's no point in doing it unless you have zero self control.

ah ok, well I was sorta joking about canceling it cause of the time I spent getting it and never know when I want another big ticket electronic item and the 0 interest financing makes it easy to get right away especially when you are the type of person who always gets shit paid off as soon as possible anyways. But yeah, for me, one of the reasons I don't use credit cards is because i am a scatterbrain and the more shit i have to keep track of the more stressful it is for me. I have lists of lists and a notebook i carry around with me at all times just to make sure I don't forget what i need to do. I have most of my bills on auto payments but I try to keep the number of auto payments not too high as it makes it harder for me to manage everything as well.

Any situation you can think of, there's an appropriate reaction and lesson we can all learn from Futurama.

Should be picking up my Blue Canti tomorrow! Sorry..Green Canti. Shit looks blue to me. What do you guys think? Blue or green?

final figure more blue than green

Budgeting advice: Figure out which body parts you can live without and start sellin'!

All kidding aside. NEO posted some really good advice. I've also been taking into account how rare a figure is likely to be in the near future. This would all be so much easier if we could easily cancel figures!

I don't know if rarity should come into it except in extreme cases. If it's something you really dig, go for it. Also if it's something you'll be able to turn around and sell for a tidy profit.... But there are probably a lot of figures each of us can live without. Only purchase the best quality waifus. I mean, I really like both of those Homura figures that Aniplex is putting out, but I'm only gonna buy one.

Cancelling figures is easy peasy if you use N-Y or HLJ.

I'm thinking of canceling 7th Dragon 2020 Miku. I really only pre-ordered her because of the hype. I really should cut down my future orders as much as possible after the March of Death. There are other figures I will absolutely need to pre-order down the line.

Okay, bros. It's time to talk about something serious. Budgeting. I'm kinda bad at it. So how do you guys do it? I'm guilty of a good bit of impulse buying, and I'd really rather not be. It's not just AmiAmi pre-owned (that's just most of it). I have other hobbies, too. So how do you guys do your monthly budgets?

From now on, we should all only order the figures that johnsmith orders. XD

I don't know. It's hard. I'm lucky that at least figures are my only expensive hobby. I play video games, but my backlog is so huge, I can wait to buy stuff until it gets cheap. I only buy a few games day 1 anymore. I think I'm getting better. My preorder list has been under 10 for a while now, where it used to be in the teens. And I've pretty much knocked out all the preowned figures I wanted out of my wishlist. From now on I'm just going to preorder figures from companies I trust, basically just Max Factory and Alter. Everybody else I'll wait until after release in hopes of getting it cheaper and avoiding disappointments if the final product isn't right.

Alleyne arrived. okay, she was totally worth it. Gorgeous sculpt. Hated paying more for her but that's what i get for canceling my preorder.

I think I am laughing more at the tower of figure boxes behind the box haha.
I know. It actually goes a bit further behind too. :/

I'll be moving shortly, so I want to wait until then to buy a display shelf and un-box/display them all. Until then, in the cardboard prison they remain!

you bought a sex doll, didn't you?
I cannot say that I did. The box is definitely big enough to fit one, though.

Fair warning: user reception to the production version of that figure was not particularly positive to my memory. She had less detail and her chest pieces didn't even cover her nipples properly.

Diabolus Inclinatus though is one of my faves.

GOOD! Because I wasn't buying her anyway. Rad character design, though. Dem goat feet!

I ordered the third Madoka film on blu-ray from Rightstuf.com... It comes out next week. SO EXCITE!

Damn, those Risty shots...kinda regretting not getting her now..

As for budgeting : I use a 600€ limit credit card for all my online hobby expenses (games, figures, subscriptions) and I pay back in full the amount used at the end of the month. No monthly payments so no interest paid, the yearly card fee is about 7 or 8€ and most importantly, no debt.

I also have a prepaid cc that has as much money as you put on it, to deal with issues like figures being delayed or emergencies. I keep that one at about 250€ and refill as needed.

I suspect the temptation would be too great for "just one more" if I would had gone with the monthly payments/big limit cc that the bank was trying to shove down my throat. This arrangement works just fine for me, but keep in mind I'm single, use public transports (Belgium is GREAT for those) and my rent is super low.

At some point in the near future I might move so I expect my purchases to drop significantly in 2015. That's the hope anyway :p

Yeah, Risty is truly amazing. I received her the other day [one of the figures contained in that ridiculously over-sized shipping box], and she definitely lives up to the hype. It's not often that you get female figures of this build/physique, so it's absolutely a rarity. She's not overly expensive either, and she should still come with one of those pencil boards.

I recommend her.

I wonder how Risty fares against the Amazon. Judging by the MFC measurements Risty is slightly smaller. They would had made the perfect muscle duo.

If one is larger than the other, you could always place the bigger one near the back and the smaller one closer to the front. It kind of tricks the eye in making the smaller one to be larger, and vice-versa.

I can't speak for the size of Amazon, but Risty definitely has a decent size to her.

How rare something might be is more about making sure you pre-order early before the window closes and then you're forced to buy it from a scalper. You can always cancel the preorder if your opinion on the figure changes. I don't really care about reselling my figures.

I don't own a credit card so I use Paypal for all my online payments, which isn't linked to my bank account to avoid overstepping my budget. I generally make 2 transfers per year of roughly 700 USD coupled with whatever extra I make by selling stuff.

But I guess it also helps that I don't tend to care for like 95% of the figures available haha. I like to think I have good self control but tbh I'm not sure how true that would hold if there was a plethora of DMC3 Dante figures everywhere in every imaginable pose with every imaginable weapon.

My Mega House Devil Summoner Raidou Kuzunoha XIV has arrived :D!

It's pretty big and awesome! :)

Looking good!

It doesn't always work out, but I try to limit myself to one scale figure and one poseable (usually a nendo) per month at max. That way by the time I order I make sure it's absolutely what I want.

My monthly budget has about 15% set aside for just screwing around, that can be going out to eat, figures, games, etc. Now I don't make that much money, but it's a couple of hundred bucks so it can get me a few figures here and there. I would recommend setting a budget by using a program that actually tracks your spending. I use mint.com, and although it doesn't always help me stay under budget I've set, I can at least keep track of my spending across categories, so I can look at that every once in a while. Try that.

I also never impulse buy pre-owned figs, only stuff on my Fig in stock list, so that helps keep my orders down. The stuff that's left on that list now are things that routinely sell for over 10k so I don't think I'll be buying them anytime soon unless I have like a massive windfall or surplus of cash one month.

Velvet sold out in one minute.

I don't understand....

I had a chance to put her in my cart last night and didn't. B/B for 7.1k seems like a good deal. Don't know what the hell I was thinking.
