Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

Perhaps. What I really think are lame are the Rat bosses. Never played the other games, so no reference to those bosses. Maybe I just am swayed by all those nice souls. Lol

Do we get sinned for fighting AD? I may take him down before NG+
Don't think so.

So that's dumb... invaded at the dragon shrine, no biggie, the dude was running around naked with no weapons equipped, so my first thought that he was in the Champions cov. With bare hands. So I engage him and caught him with my sword R2 stun lock, which if I hit I can finish my 5 hit combo for about 1250 damage with just a bit of stamina for a back role to recover.

This method works decent for my dual wielding build. So I land this, he back track and starts running away. So I pursue. And low and behold he turns around equips 2 fucking bolt guns that have horns on them I think, dual wielding and starts rapid firing at me like a damn machine gun. WTF that shit took half my health even with a +5 vengarl suit. I managed to roll thru the next burst of bolts, only to be defeated on round 3 of machine gun shots.

Seriously wtf? What the hell is the machine gun shit?

Lol, Avelyn abuse is the new meta.

Avelyn. You find it in (place you've already been in)
Undead Crypt

Welcome to power stance Avelyn my friend. A lot of fun.

Sounds like you faced a troll build.

I've noticed a lot of invaders like using Smelter Demon armor. It fits them cuz they look like assholes.

Any tips about good guides (online or print) for DS2 and DS?
I don't want to spoil me completely or play the whole games with a guide, but I guess its not bad to have something to look into sometimes.

I recommend the wikidot wikis for both games. The advertising is less obtrusive and the content is more clearly expressed compared with wikia and fextralife. There is still a lot of ground to cover on the DS2 wiki, but the work is progressing nicely.

I still can't get over how steep the advancement requirements are for Brotherhood of Blood/Blue Sentinels. And how every loss erases a win at that. I'm sure this post will illicit a lot of "pah, it was easy" responses but I strongly feel like advancing in those covenants is the most poorly designed aspect of the game. Why are the requirements for that so far beyond, say, Heirs of the Sun?

I'm rooting for the wikidot but let's not pretend that fextralife isn't the most comprehensive DS2 wiki at the moment.

If I level past 120, will I still be able to find people to play with in the game? Like co-oping/invading?

Yes, and even if you stay at lvl 120 it will be harder and harder to find people to play with (assuming that you are still killing enemies and growing your soul memory stat). It is all depending on what area of the game you are trying to coop in, though. The end game areas allow coop up to much higher levels than lvl 120.

Hey From, don't use an enemy model from the first game as an NPC in the second. Thanks.

Yes, I killed Ornifex and I'm pissed.

Got to her last night and was JUST about to do the same thing, since she wasn't attacking at all figured something was up, glad I held back.

Is there a consensus on adaptibility? I've seen every opinion from its trash to its amazing. Guessing the truth is somewhere in the middle.

So if you lose, you go down in rank? Whaaa.

I'm partial to the wikidot for Souls games myself, but the DS2 wikidot progress has been very slow.

It's useful and noticeable to a point. I recommend boosting it enough to get your agility stat to 100 at least.

I believe both covenants require 500 PVP wins, and every loss erases a win. Who the hell did From design that for? I'll admit I'm bad at PVP but damn.

But the advertising and formatting are so bad ... I agree that it is more detailed at the moment, but wikidot should be enough if you are not trying to 100% all the areas.

Isn't that only for training matches/duels, though? I don't know if it really applies to regular invasions, I ranked by using blue orbs and I don't think I have 150 more wins than losses. I would guess because they are dedicated pvp covenants and because WotG is broken.

+500 win spread is impossible no matter how good you are.

*Adding the fact that you have to get another consumable item just to duel to my list of grievances.

I mean Heirs of the Sun is a dedicated co-op covenant yet their requirements aren't so brutal. I just wonder what's up with the huge gulf in difficulty.

Indeed.

I definitely think the Blue orbs are exempt from the losses, it should have been nearly impossible for me to even get rank 2 without grinding way harder.

Yeah, I can't do the duels as much as I would want as it's kind of slow to get more tokens. Luckily blue orbs are relatively simple to get.

Wait, so invasions wins are permanently on your record? I didn't know that. Very interesting. 500 is still steep as hell, but interesting nonetheless.

From just wanted to screw over invaders in this game. One of the victims to the "welcome newcomers" cause I guess. =/
The requirements are annoying and ranking up in the covenants is a game in itself. (Covenant of Champions is just as bad though to be fair. I'm almost through my NG playthrough as a member of that covenant and gained 1 whole rank in the process. Never getting invaded by reds, excluding NPCs is not helping. :<

It has to do with Soul Memory, not Soul Level. Which I believe goes up no matter what, even if you don't level up. But for NG+, you should be fine. I was 240 and 11m SM and still able to do lots of co-op And invasions in NG+

Yeah, my experiences point to that. I should not be near 150 more wins than losses in my invades, and my duels/training matches are insignificant compared to my invades.

I guess it's a little more obtainable then.

Only a little though. Between you and me I lost more to rolling off cliffs last night than I got legitimate PVP wins, it was absolutely shameful.

It's rough. Try the shaded ruins, it's my favorite spot for invasions. :)
There is the risk of rolling off cliffs there as well though.

You've surely meant three games, didn't you? =))

Haha, you got me there I guess ... The thing is, I have only tried Demon's Souls out very superficially, so I can't personally vouch for wikidot there. But it doesn't surprise me that they have a good Demon's Souls wiki also ...

I was invading in Heide's last night. Probably not a good idea considering it has two bosses and therefore two popular summon spots so close to one another, meaning more often than not I got pulverised by summoned phantoms.

lol, maybe if I save all my orbs for Shrine of Amana I can have the level do all the work for me...

Yeah, I don't like Heide's either because it is too easy to run to any of the bosses for the host as well, just wasting my orbs and time. It does at least require a little more to run to the boss in Shaded Ruins.

I don't like to invade in Shrine of Amana because it is way too large. It's really tough to find a host that hides. :P You do have a high chance of getting "free" kills there at least.

I've been learning to play without a shield. Equip load at 20% with just the Mad Warrior mask on and stamina at 150. Wrecking people in PvP with dual Avelyns and Pyro/Miracles. It's a satisfying playstyle.

Yep. Just as a I walked into Heide's last night in NG++, I got invaded. First thing I did was get rid of the 1st enemy and summon two people. They arrived just after the invader reached me. Whoever invaded me didn't stand a chance. lol

I also got invaded in Harvest Valley too instantly. Killed that guy no issue though. Hit him with like 2 Sunlight Spears as he went around the corner.

3rd invasion right before 1st boss in The Bastille. I lost there. I really had no chance. Guy used a Great Magic Shield spell as well as I recently exhausted most of my spells.

Fuck the
Gargoyles
bossfight. Seriously, whoever thought that was a good idea is insane. This is awful.

Just always concentrate on one only and you should never have to deal with more than three at once. Every time a gargoyle hits about half health another one comes in so spreading out your damage among them gets you overwhelmed in no time.

Man, I wish I had known about that when I was fighting them. Fighting 5 at a time is haaaard.

Beat them solo first try. Just keep moving around the group and take out one at a time whenever possible. I never stopped moving during the fight. They're not too bad.

Even Bells is a pain in the ass to finish. I got about 20 kills, did a calculation on how long it would take me to get to 100, and decided it wasn't worth it. And that one isn't even an issue of difficulty, it's just time investment.

It'll get patched, I'm sure. For DS1. they patched it so you could easily finish the covenants without doing any PvP.

Yea, so now all the sudden I can't even play Warf or anywhere, without being invaded. If I didn't need to be alive to do what I'm doing. -_-

Wtf.

I've been thinking about a similar build, though maybe with a bleed-infused side weapon to apply both statuses. How many hits do you need (on average) to apply poison?

Using just one Manslayer it's 4-5 R1's to poison, but using two in power stance it's only two L1's to inflict poison. It's really easy to land those two hits and then you just need to stay near them so they can't heal.

Lots of fun!

You can summon right in front of the gargoyles if someone has a sign down.

Huh. Was told different. Which would have helped at the time when my build wasn't as adept at dealing with crowds. Now though, man. I know I must be in for a world of hurt because I finally feel like I can manage any situation.

That's usually the point in the Dark Souls Confidence curve where a random hollow stunlocks you death with his dingy dagger. :P
