Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

Even Bells is a pain in the ass to finish. I got about 20 kills, did a calculation on how long it would take me to get to 100, and decided it wasn't worth it. And that one isn't even an issue of difficulty, it's just time investment.

It'll get patched, I'm sure. For DS1. they patched it so you could easily finish the covenants without doing any PvP.

Hope so, it's definitely #1 on my "to patch" list.

I actually soloed the gargoyles on my second try. Their AI is not the same as the two gargoyles in DS1. If you back up and avoid getting mobbed, they were not as aggressive. They used attacks that left them vulnerable more often, like just sitting there and spewing fire in a random direction.

That's usually the point in the Dark Souls Confidence curve where a random hollow stunlocks you death with his dingy dagger. :P

"It started out like any other morning in Brightstone Cove Tseldora. But little did Bob know, it was going to be a big day for him."

I've been wondering this for ages now that I've beaten the game: what happens if you attack
Nashandra
early?

got the plat. love the game, just not enough to play a third time in succession. areas like the gutter or undead crypt are not for me. that makes replays kinda hard to stomach. i think it's also better to get out of pvp before all the kids discover the exploits and drive all the normal people away. i'll be back for the ps4 version. hopefully with an expansion on top.

i'd like to try that dual wield crescent axe. looked nice in my tests.

oh and next time from, try to make a few skill based trophys. no collect spells/weapons crap. beating the game with the champions covenant sounds good for a start.

does my rank 2 from Pilgrims of Dark reset if I leave and join another covenant? I'd not like to do those 3 dungeons again.

also, is the only way to get Hidden Weapon by the Bell Keepers covenant rank 2?

and, fuck Navlaan. I didn't think it was so stupidly easy to miss his quest.

Ugh, so much time spent guarding bells last night, only managed to get to rank 2. Practically drowning in titanite chunks now. Screw rank 3, I've got my sorcery.

Also joined the Bloodbros for a larf, tried putting my sign down in the candle room before the
Looking Glass Knight
in order to be summoned for that fight. Worked once, although the dude got squashed by the boss itself instead.

The rest of the time I just kept getting summoned as a dark spirit, though. Am I "invading", or is someone actually summoning me for a duel? And am I racking up the sin for doing this? PvP in Souls game isn't usually something I poke at.

NG+ Story:

Summon two buddies at Sinner's Rise bonfire, we clear the whole area up to the boss, warcry & dual bow at the fog gate, it's been a great run with these dudes, get inside and Sinner three-shots me. Dead. Buddies had been in the room for less than five seconds. I take my glasses and headphones off, rub my eyes, thinking "well fuck that was embarrassing," I look up and OF COURSE I'm at the Sinner's bonfire so the archers are lighting me up! Dead. 74,000 souls lost. :/

lol, quite the heart breaker!

There seems a couple of bonfires like that in DS2 whereas I can't really think of any in DS1, unless you moved around a bit in Undead Burg and a couple of the hollows would come running in. The archer on the bookcase in Dukes also has 20/20 vision.

Are you getting summoned without even putting down a red sign? I always wondred how this worked.

finished
Aldia's Keep
yesterday, it surprised me that it was so short, I was expecting something like the fort in
forest of fallen giants
, but nope, oh well... funny thing is that I left my sign for the boss battle and helped a dude, after the fight I summoned a sunbro and it was the guy I just helped

joy ahead therefore joy

From my understanding your rank should stay even if you abandon covenant. Can't say for sure though if the flames keep lit if you abandon them as I didn't check it before moving to NG+.

And AFAIK Hidden Weapon can only be acquired via Bell Keepers.

The reveal of the next area was so glorious.

Dumb question, but: I'm level 76 playing as a melee-centric character (primarily using the small, kick-ass hammer you find in McDuff's shop, no less). I've gotten as far as the boss in Black Gulch/the first boss in The Iron Keep and have thrown the brunt of my souls into strength, stamina and vitality.

Anyone have any load out/leveling advice for a build like this that'll get me through the second half of the game? I've been having fun, but human effigies are scarce, so I've been spending most of my time soloing as a hollowed schmuck.

There's a really good Strength weapon back in the gutter, the Great Club. This thing wrecks stuff. You can just go on to pump up strength up to 40 (or 50 for some really needy weapons but not higher than that) and keep vigor and endurance at the levels you feel comfortable with.

You might wanna invest some points into int or faith for weapon buffs later but you can go without as well.
Everything is possible! :P

I'm putting down a red sign, and being summoned as a dark spirit, I'm pretty sure it doesn't say it's an invasion.

I read that in order to be summoned by the Knight, you put your red sign down in the candle room. But almost every time I'm just a dark spirit.

Yes, I've only socked enough souls into the magic-oriented stats so I could nab at least one ranged magic spell (fireballs), but if some of that can help buff melee weapons, I'll have to consider a more well-rounded leveling-up path from now on.

Thankee-sai!

I bet people are summoning reds just to troll them in knowing they prevented them from being summoned by the boss.

Yep, the next area is breathtaking...I was like "wow, I can't even..." for like 5 minutes when I got there.

Also a question regarding item discovery, do we have a word on which item provides the higher boost? I'm using Covetous Gold Serpent +1 when farming, I tried to stack it with the Traveling Merchant Hat but didn't seem to make any difference.

I'm in the
Shrine of Amana
trying to farm Twinkling Titanites and I haven't got one after 5-6 times clearing the whole area...wtf? I'm pretty sure that the witches and the knights dropped twinkling in here. :/

Pretty much. I've had a couple of times where I'm summoned into the world and then I'm in loading screeen again because the host went into the boss area before I was fully summoned as a dark spirit.

edit: I did see a video on youtube that claimed that it was possible to get summoned by the boss in areas that are not in the King's Passage, but I don't know the credibility of that.

Yeah, they both drop it. The item discovery items really don't seem to give much of a bonus for me either. You could try nabbing the Gold Serpent Ring +2 from the NG+
Gargoyles
by using a bonfire ascetic.

Last night I noticed that you can see Dragonrider in his boss arena from one of the crumbling walkways overlooking the area. Anything you can do about that?

Sometimes if I'm not getting any drops I quit out the game and reload. I know it sounds like a placebo and probably is but sometimes it feels like the game is just saying 'Nope!... You've had enough', even with all the item discovery gear on. I felt the same way about DS1 when farming sometimes. If I'm not getting drops at a normal rate, I'll stop farming for a while, especially now respawns are limited.

I've had at least a couple of occasions too where the blue glow for item drops didn't load in, but when I walked back to the bonfire I could see them. I put it down to just one of the many loading issues in DS2.

Thanks.
Wow, so I'm playing NG++++ with my sl 120 character. Time to git gud.

wow...I guess I'm ahead of schedule, because I only beat 3 bosses while still on my 1st playthrough, and I'm at sl 74.

onwards to end was way way better and entertaining than the whole of locations before, it's usually the other way around in games in general. A great deal more effort went into those and it's really fun with a lot better encounters and boss fights and cool looking to boot.

Now going through everything before was fun too because core game is good but some of the locations were completely shit like b
astille
, s
haded woods/ruins
,
black gulch
etc.

This bonfire was also the cause of my biggest soul loss so far.

So basically you could Co-op/ PVP your way into the late-game?

Yes

Here I am killing left and right. No cursed zombie things gonna kill me.

*hears rumbling*...? OMG BOULDER *splat*

;_; this game man. Gonna break me.

Brightstone Cove

Well after about 190 hours, decided to get my platinum. Too bad I won't get a perfect save with at least one of each item though :(
SL216 with 3 million souls on me at the end.

I don't want to use any ascetics so I guess I'll have to stick to CSR+1. :P

You are not the only one who did this! XD

I did that too on the first game but haven't done it yet on DSII for some reason, it won't hurt to try this I guess. To be honest I was thinking if they changed anything in this area in the latest calibration, the downside of server side calibrations is that things like drops/drop rates can change and this can be a little confusing.

Is the only way to open a shortcut to the main boss in the
Iron Keep
to kill the
Smelter Demon?

Shortest way I can think of is all the way through
Belfry Sol, through the enemies, stairs and hallways
