I love how this starts at 12 AM April 9th in Euro time, best Birthday present ever, thank you Sakurai!


I just want to know the release date, I really hope they don't mess up the European release date for this like they did with Brawl.

They were revealed for the first time during the direct... so no, they weren't.

You might be confusing the reveal direct with the second Pokemon direct, which was a month before release.
 
fuck... I'm cool right now, but I know I'll be hyped as fuck on monday... and it will be some disappointing shit.

I expect Mii reveal, nothing more.

I really don't think this'll be released in the summer, I think like others are saying this is going to reveal a Fall 2014 release date because they need that big seller for the holidays. Now if I were a dreamin' man...

Mid-late July: Smash
Late August: Hyrule Warriors
September: Bayo 2

This has absolutely no chance of happening in any conceivable way. But man if it did I don't think there's a single thing that MS or Sony could do to beat that lineup

More likely than you think, I'd say, considering Zelda barely missed being ready for last year's E3. Dunno how far HW is, but who gives a shit about that anyways.

Also if Smash does release late into 2014... why do a Direct right now instead of waiting until E3? I might be completely off track on this line of thought, but if they're having a Direct for this game it could be that the game is closer than we think, or they have really big news for the game.

Yeah I know I just can't imagine them doing it. I could see Zelda U filling like a Tropical Freeze role in 2015. Early release in the Spring to boost sales after the holiday. That said, there is a chance it's possible. The main reason I'm doubting isn't because of Zelda U's development tho. I don't think Smash would be ready that soon. So save Smash for the holidays and give Zelda U a few more months in the oven.

Also I'm mildly interested in HW, but I'm not expecting much. I'm certainly not expecting the Nintendo level of polish, so I could see it coming out relatively soon. And at least in Japan they aimed for a Summer release. Though knowing Iwata with his release date trolling, (Mario Kart in May!.....30th!) this could mean as far as late September

I'm venturing to guess Smash in September.

Nintendo avoids July releases, historically speaking.

If Nintendo practically considers May 30 for MK8 to be inclusive of June (since it's at the end of May, they have cake and eat it too - timing wise), September seems likely.

DK:TF released in Feb.

3 months later

MK8 releases May 30

3 months later (so late in May gives N perception space)

Smash releases September

I mean the game has been in dev for 2 years or so (this includes planning/conceptual phase), it's not really unexpected that the game could be nearly done -- especially since they contracted Bandai Namco teams to help. The only reasons Brawl got delayed so many times was because of Sonic and the SSE. Without a big ass (and boring) single player with CGI, development is going to take way less time comparatively.

But I'm just gonna keep my expectations in check and say they just have some news they want to share that they can't via the daily pictures.

Alternatively, Nintendo has no other games to talk about, and wants to create hype until MK8 releases

there are few possibilities

1. They probably don't want to overshadow other games' announcement at E3 with a load of Smash stuffs since they need to convince people that they have more games than just Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros 4.

2. Sakurai probably want to show more stuffs that daily image can't even explain, such as adventure modes, customization stages, UI/Graphic, etc I meant we barely make a dent on smash contents with daily images. There are so many things that we don't know.

3. Maybe they actually have a lot of newcomer and third party characters that they can't really spread over the bimonthly directs, so they want to spread even more.

4. The game is actually coming out sooner than we previously thought.

Yeah, we are reaching 2 years of development, and the Namco-Bandai team is pretty amazing with what they are doing. It's possible that they are getting close to complete the games.

Seems like they're doing the same thing like they did with Pokemon X and Y: Announce fall release date in the Spring.

Oh myyyy. When have they have had a game specific direct that wasn't fairly close to the game's release? That makes me super excited! I hope we get the game's real name and release date.

Ha, unfortunately not on a game like Smash. Anyone id be able to ask about it would instantly call me out and I value my life. I did meet Sakurai briefly once though.

We do have precedent for them trying to smooth over bad news with good news (Sonic in Brawl + delay).
 
I can see it now. Sakurai reveals Captain Falcon at the beginning of the direct, and then Palutena near the end. The middle shows off the new Classic mode and Adventure mode, talks about some new content in the game, and shows maybe a match or two of the game in action.

Finally Iwata apologizes for the long wait, and announces a demo releasing on the e-shop at E3.

Direct ends with the words "Coming 2015".
