I don't recall Nintendo ever making free home-downloadable demos of their games, unless you count their F2P endeavors.
You play as the individual Pokémon -- the HUD displays the Pokémon's name, and the Pokémon is announced when you win a match. The Trainer is nothing more than background scenery. I'd prefer the name Red if he did the fighting himself, but I genuinely think "Pokémon Trainer" makes more sense in the context of Smash Bros. where you switch between three playable Pokémon.

Within a day or two of, at least. I imagine that the eShop traffic would be colossal, and may bring down the service, so that'd be an unfair technicality if the demo was attempted to be put up but had to be brought down.
Basically, there'll be a demo very shortly after the Direct. A week after the Direct is too far away for me to win the bet =)

If I was in charge with the names for the games. I would have chosen Super Smash Bros Universe (Wii U) and Super Smash Bros Dimensions (3DS).
Suggesting there would EVEN be a demo for Smash (outside of those event demos) is a bit crazy lol.
I don't think Nintendo has had demos for their big games (3D Mario, 2D Mario, DK, Pokemon, Mario Kart, Smash Bros).

Even if we got a demo it probably be limited to like 15 tries like their other demos. I'd have to leave my Wii U and 3DS on 24/7.
