So after beating all the souls games.. I clamor for more.

I hear Dragons Dogma is in a similar vein as DKS. But.. I seriously doubt it. Is there anything out there similar to the DKS games?

You're right to doubt. Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions for you.

There is nothing like Souls games out there just how Dragons Dogma is unlike anything else as well albeit to a lesser extent.

Both great games. I would definitely recommend DD. Such an awesome game.

Well, took a few tries and 3 Blue Sentinel invasions along the way (I defeated each one). But finally beaten A
ncient
D
ragon
on NG++. Nice 300k souls bonus.

prepare for depression. DD is great and of same quality. just not quite as challenging. very good game though.

When trying to connect to DS servers
i get a message saying -

" The DARK SOULS 2 service is not available. Pleace try again later.
Pleace see the following URL for more information:
www.namcobandaigames.eu/support"
So i follow the URL on my laptop but there is absolutely no info about DS Servers.

I can only play the game offline mode, witch is just fine by me but i wuold like the option of playing with others.

I just dont get what the ****'s the problem

Ver.1.02
Calibrations 1.03

Input lag in this game is horrible. It's worse than the early days of Dark Souls 1.
In a game where timing is very important, how many time I died because of this stupid thing. I hope From Soft is aware of the problems the game has and they are working to fix them.

I'd say its even more challenging but in the most unfair ways (which the Souls series employs as well tbh).

You think Ancient Dragon has a lot of health bwahahaha, you have creatures ( not even bosses ) in DD that have like 7 health bars. I had to hire an infinite level pawn to help me defeat the condemned cyclops x2 room. Oh and the city before Daimon, nah its not even possible.

I killed him with 3 just because I felt like it. 4 is more than doable.

There is a difference if you fight him with 3 or with 4 souls? I'm trying to defeat him with 3, and it's not that hard to dodge his attacks. But I do such a low amount of damage I end up starting to be impatient during the fight which leads to my death... What changes with a fourth soul?

His
defense is lessened further so you will do more damage.

They won't. The whole game lags hardcore even the menus.

0 souls - Vendrick has 32x defense.
1 - 16x
2 - 8x
3 - 4x
4 - 2x
5 - normal defense.

I've been on a media blackout since the game came out, I'm waiting on the PC version.

What's the general consensus on this game? Where does it rank in the souls series, also is it much longer, larger than the other games?

What? Are you sure you're getting input lag?

I think the following things get confused for input lag:

  • If you use up 100% of your stamina you can't run until you regain it all
  • When you are stunlocked or shield-bashed you drop your shield and have to press L1 again to bring it up. It won't come up automatically. Let go of the button then press it again.
  • Some big enemies and weapons have a stun AOE that shakes the ground and disrupts your ability to run, move and roll
  • By default a lot of actions are slower but can be leveled. Putting some points in ADP helps. Likewise, spell/miracle/hex casting speed can be leveled a few ways too.
I put 80 hours in this game and never experienced what I'd call input lag, with the one exception of menus.

Is anyone else kind upset they didn't include the ability to manually change the positions of the items? I'd love to arrange my weapons in a certain way. I think it was an oversight that they can patch in.

I certainly feel that way with spells. I like to have my spells in a certain order. Having 13 slots or so, sure can get messy at times lol

Mage ladies in the shrine are kicking my arse, the mace guys are fine but they don't chuck magic at me.

I'm going to black gulch so I can get the forbidden key for Havel's stuff.

Personally I would rank it below Dark and Demons. Longer? Maybe, it would depend on how you proceed. People have done speed runs in a bit over an hour so far. In terms of size, it feels a bit more compartmentalized, although this is probably due to one the design decisions.

That works? Awesome. I think I already have it at +2 though as I wanted to get the greatsword soul from the boss. Means the Giants should be there again already! Cheers

Don't think that works. As I did that since I needed the Boss Soul from the main boss there, but never got another Giant Soul from the giants when I re-faced them.

I'm pretty sure the bonfire next to the boss only affects the boss in Black Gulch. I've ascetic'ed the boss bonfire in BG twice and the enemies I farmed for chunks right outside where you drop out of the bonfire cave never respawned. You'll probably have to Ascetic the first BG bonfire to get a 2nd Soul of a Giant.

I'm not upset, but I did/do want the feature.

All these things are in the other two Souls games too, but I agree with Soulhouf the input lag is noticably worse coming from playing the other two games.

It's brings up a good tip btw that if you don't let your stamina bar drain completely you can continue running again at any time as it refills rather than having to wait to for it to refill completely like when you have let it drain completely. It can save your bacon!

Another FROM series to try is King's Field. I think it's supposed to be pretty challenging.

I recently played King's Field (USA, so really King's Field 2) and KF The Ancient City for the first time and they were both fantastic. The controls predate analog sticks so it takes some getting used to, but they nail the same atmosphere and exploration focus. I started in on KF 3 and put it aside for a while because I want to keep it and shadow tower around for once I've sunk a few hundred more hours into Dark Souls 2 and need more to play.

I love the series but think it's sort of funny how the mantra of fans is that the game is tough but fair and when you die it's your fault. Unless a button press doesn't register, or doesn't queue, or is delayed, or the camera clips into walls or an enemy, or the hit box is bizarre. Or my recent favorite, you drop a prism stone into a hole to see if you can drop down without dying, it lands visibly so you decide to drop down and it turns out to be a bottomless pit. But otherwise, it's always your fault.

I don't think the giants normally respawn though. The second bonfire is all I've used an ascetic on leading me to believe it does make them come back but they simply don't give another soul.

It's great. It's massive. It's not as good as the first half and DLC of Dark Souls, but nothing is. I'm 100 hours in across two characters and don't think I'll be done for now until I get another 50-200 hours in. A worthy follow up but not one that eclipses what came before.

Ah. I thought they just respawned on every death like other enemies. Well, go kill Vendrick with 4 souls. It shouldn't be too bad. He only has like 11k health.

Invade there. You'll get hella ascetics.

Huh. Didn't know you COULD invade there.

is pretty easy with 5 souls in NG. Slightly harder in NG+ and even more so in NG++. Having slight difficulty with him in NG++. Some of his attacks seem to one-shot me. lol

You sure? Cause when I Ascetic the boss bonfire, it did make the giants come back though but not the Soul itself. So I don't think so.

My current opinion is that it doesn't hit the highs of Dark Souls but it's overall more consistent. It feels bigger and there's tons of ways to build your character, and the NG+ implementation is pretty genius. I think the changes from DS1 are good for the most part but it took me a while to get used to them. I also went from thinking it's harder than DS1 to thinking it's the easiest in the series.. jury's still out on that for me.

Yeah, I never went back down there after I killed them, so I assumed they just came back like regular enemies every time you bonfired/died.

it works but only if you use it at a specific bonfire

its either 1 or 2 i dont know for sure but it works 100% i did it myself

It's a much bigger game than the other two. It is more consistantly good than the other two. The fact that it is the third one lessens its impact a bit, it is an amazing game. I would rank them DaS1>DaS2>DeS

When you invade there you can estus, but enemies aggro you. You get an ascetic if you win.
