First Nintendo registers S.T.E.A.M. and now they have a companion cube looking box in Smash?

Pic of the day, and a very important announcement.

On 4/8, at 3 PM PST (8/4 11 PM UK time), we'll be airing a Super Smash Bros. Direct!! There will be all kinds of info about the new Smash Bros. games on this simultaneous global stream that will be delivered "directly" to you, so don't miss it!
It's airing at a really late time for some of you, but it'll probably be worth the wait.
You can watch the stream from the official site (www.smashbros.com).
It's all coming together!

Was just about to post this. "Tons of new info." I like the sound of that.

Guys. In a little over 12 hours, we're going to know so much more stuff about the new Smash Bros.

If I had to pick 3 characters that each box represents, I'd go from right to left: Yoshi, Mewtwo, Snake. One rep for each Smash game.

I'm also curious if we'll learn why Nintendo is choosing to hold this Direct. I'm happy it's here, but I'm still wondering why now.

Nintendo likes to concentrate on their next big game. Look at how Cranky Kong was a big reveal for them. Looking at their calendar, I'd think Mario Kart (or even Kirby) would fit their marketing strategy. So why hold a Direct for Smash at this time? Very interesting move...

Either an announcement at an early launch (June?)
or a Please Understand...

I personally think that Wii U version will come this Summer and 3DS will come at a later date.
Place your bets now folks

Sustain hype until E3???

After this though, I don't expect anything.

Not earlier than October. And we won't find out in this Direct.

Though the logic for an earlier release than expected is fairly sound, I think November for both.

It could simply be Sakurai seeing requests for more information on Smash that the daily pics cannot adequately provide and asking permission to do one.

Or, Iwata wanted to do a Direct of some kind in April, but didn't want to unveil any new games prior to E3, so they settled on a Smash Direct to remind the wider audience (i.e. people who don't check the pic every day) of a big title that's coming to the system before Mario Kart hits and create some extra hype for the system.

Or, the game is actually launching in June~August and waiting until E3 felt too late.

Or, any number of possibilities.

If I could I would... shake your hand.

In Half Life 3 we learn Gordon's crowbar is forged from remnants of the Master Sword!

And Fi
eventually became the fact sphere / corrupt personality core
^Actual portal 2 spoiler, btw : )

November is what I've been thinking as well.

Maybe the logic is to build hype leading up to Mario Kart. Then that's when they feel they at least have some trickle of games coming out with Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta, maybe Yarn Yoshi, and eventually Smash? Is this Direct just to kill the dead air? Or is it a sign of something more like an early release?

Yeah, it just seems to be an unusual move for them. That's why I'm curious if we'll get any indication of the reason. A "blowout" of sorts for a November game in April seems very un-Nintendo.

Probably the former. My bet is that they don't want to reveal their entire hand before E3 so they're doing a Smash focused Direct. This way, they don't have to focus on new titles, nor do people expect them to.

I've been saying that since the E3 trailer. Doesn't sound weird at all. I think you should be able to transfer your village in game (So I can play as Skull Kid), and if Robin makes it in you should be able to use your version from Fire Emblem: Awakening

Edit: Me in Animal Crossing

Vigo smashes the buzzing flies!

Animal Crossing Wii U and Metroid Dread for the 3DS.

I see you and raise you Pokken Fighters for Wii U and Rhythm Heaven Trio Dance for 3DS.

It is extremely uncharacteristic. At this point, I can only think there is either substantial features or content that Sakurai wants to reveal or the game is coming earlier than the holidays.

If neither of those is the case, I can only assume it's about holding off information on other games until E3.

launching both games at the same time is a mistake imo.

WiiU version should launch at the very least several months earlier.
Several months is a bit too much. Maybe one or two months, at most.

I don't mind the 3DS version being delayed. It is the only version I am interested, but I still have to buy a new 3DS and I am short of money at the moment, so...

I can't decide if I want an expected or unexpected new character reveal. It'd be nice to have Ridley, but I love curveballs like The Villager.

I want Ridley so badly, but as long as the supposed reveal isn't something boring like Miis or Chrom (sorry FE fans), I will be fine.
