It took 2 years and 5 months for Masahiro Sakurai and his development team of 100 people to make Smash Bros Brawl. Development started in October 2005 and the game released in March 2008, but it did come out 2 months earlier for Japan. It may take close to 3 years ( maybe just 2 years and 8 months) depending on the simultaneously development of the 3DS version, and whether or not the dev team requests more time to polish the games. There's also that issue of Sakurai's medical problem potentially interfering with his inability to work as much as he used to.
