Hello there.

I've never been a Smash fan. Probably because I'm not a big fan of couch-coop gaming. I just never played any Smash Never owned a GameCube, and I missed on Brawl. The new one, it just looks fun, it's not your typical fighting game. I like the premise. I just hope there will be good (lag-free) online mode.

But. I'm really looking forward to it, I hope it comes out before December...

If you're a Nintendo fan, you will probably love it. Seeing so many of your favorite characters in one place, along with the music and locations from those franchises. That's what makes Smash special to me, anyway.

The gameplay is rock-solid too, of course. Some of the best multiplayer in any game out there.

We did have a Spring release window for Mario Kart 8 until February... it's not as entirely unlikely as you think.

If they're ahead of schedule with regards to development of the game I could see them having a Summer release window. Let's not forget that Summer to Nintendo extends far beyond August and goes into September (*cough* Wii U OS summer update *cough*).

Ah, maybe I wasn't clear, sorry. What I mean is, MK8 was announced for a Spring 2014release at E3 last year. Smash Bros has not been given a specific release window at all. Let's say Summer does mean September. In the US at least summer goes until 9/20 so that's reasonable to me. But in the scenario I was describing that I think is unlikely, Nintendo would tell us, say, today that the game is coming this summer, then in mid-June that it was coming out in about a month. In the case of Mario we found out it was an 11/22 release on 10/1, but going back to E3 we knew it was slated for the end of the year (December, in fact). The difference in this case is that the only release window we have right now is 2014 in general. I hope that makes more sense.

Yes... A beta/demo would be a super megaton indeed. It would also help to increase hype and improve the overall battle mechanics considering the game is still far away to be finished. Even if the demo is just a 3 minute battle would be more than enough! Sakurai!!!

As awesome as this would be I feel like it's pretty unlikely. By the time E3 happens in June they'd only have a month or so for marketing and pre-ordering. I can't remember any time they've given that short of a window between a firm release date or month announcement and the actual release.

How has what they have been doing since E3 last year not counted as marketing?

I can't see this direct going through without at least one newcomer, though they're probably saving a few of them for E3, as those would have the most trailer impact. Maybe a couple veterans sprinkled in. I'd imagine there's going to be a fair deal of information that's too slow or technical for an E3 presentation. Mechanics changes, new modes, that sort of thing.

Welcome to the world of smash. It's a lot of fun, there's way more content than you'd ever imagine (more than most games have combined), and hours of endless fun to be had. Give couch co-op a try if you can, and if not, well, we all hope online is good too!

Oh cool, is Regna Ferox really a stage? I missed that one, awesome. I am really terrible at playing as the FE characters but I've always had a soft spot for them. Chrom would be a great inclusion if they change up his move set a little to further differentiate from the other reps - especially since he looks almost EXACTLY like Marth, ha.

Outside of that second point, I agree. While I believe we're getting a newcomer (and possibly a second character, either newcomer or vet), I think the focus will be on overall mechanics changes and version difference. Which would actually be really cool to me.

He seems like a no-brainer. Varied possible move set due to all the different games...collaboration between the two companies...brand development, etc.

Characters is the easiest thing to make GAF explode.
While a gameplay direct will gather a large thread I wouldn't see it as being something to crash GAF for example. The only thing that could possibly cause that would be a sooner than expected release date or demo after the direct.

I can't think of any game that has ever been able to cause waves just over gameplay info. It's nice to have but it's also just sort of expected at some point.

I think Pacman will be in. I really hope he isn't though, I just don't see him having a good moveset.

A Pacman stage in the vein of the 75 M or Mario Bros. stage, however, would be fantastic.

1) They wouldn't tell us if affiliations with Namco would affect the roster. They want to surprise us.
2) Pac-Man is one of the biggest names in video game history. It would be a big win for Nintendo to have him in the game.
3) Pac-Man is Miyamoto's favorite video game character of all time.

Are people really expecting this game to launch in the summer? It's going to be Nov/Dec. The window will be something like "Autumn" but be in one of the last days. Like how Mario Kart 8 is a "Spring" game but comes out like the day before summer.
