What's Plan B for chat if (when) the NeoGAF servers start croaking? The NeoGAF Steam chat, some Twitch channel?

SmashGAF's favorite hobby, making baseless assumptions.

"GAF is down already?!!? The stream must be lagging for me! The stream must have shown a ridley assist trophy and everybody but me saw it!!! Screw you, Samurai!"

Sell shit loads of Wii Us, to put it bluntly.

Oh yeah I actually made a nice leap in my mind and thought you were referring to how people expected 3DW make DKC grow (...?). Yeah you're right.

This is the new argument? lol
especially for the DK bomba

It's not a new argument. It's the only rational one. You can't expect a game released on platform with less than 6 million units sold sell much more than what 3D World did. As for DK I'd wait until we have better data on how it did. Even after that it is bound to have longs legs. Not that it's different from 3D World in that regard.

I could see it working either way. If Bayo and X release before Smash, for example, they might be able to "maximize" the core, which then serve as ambassadors to the mainstream.
At the very least, we haven't had a Bayonetta 2 or X direct yet as far as I know, but we've had a Developer Direct, over a year of constant updates, and an entire direct devoted to Smash.

Which seems like it's closer to release?

I think it would be better for both Bayo 2 and X to be released after MK 8 and SSB 4 and maximize the possible audience.

Yup, and if they are smart and put Shulk and Bayo in, as someone mentioned earlier, to build Name recognition, it can only help. I know very very few people who knew what Fire Emblem was before they met Marth in Smash Bros. Look at FE now.

I'm highly doubtful that we'll get a release date today. They'll hold this for the holidays and give us Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta for the summer and autumn.

Yeah, if you ask me what seems like higher priority for Nintendo, Smash would be it. The sooner Smash is out, the sooner they'll start moving consoles.

is 130k in North America in 8 days bomba status? legit curious. I know it didn't do too well in Japan but I've been under the impression that its North American numbers were pretty solid

It did better than GAF expected, but only because the Japanese sales dragged our expectations to zero.
Actual performance was ok for NPD.

You know, what they should announce today is that a downloadable demo is coming "this summer". Then release said demo 72 hours before E3 begins.
That would generate metric fuck-tons of hype.

That's why, if this is not July-August, I see no point in doing a SSB direct now rather than doing one focused on the games in June-August. I still hope that this is the right choice and they do a special SSB direct now because it will come in June-August.

3dw sold quite well, given the situation, but DKC was clearly limited by the fact there were no notable releases 2 month before and 2 months after it.

I was under the impression that neither gave Wii U sales much of a spike though, am I wrong? And wasn't 3DW the lowest sales of a Mario game at launch in... some time? I just really hope the Wii U will have a comeback like the 3DS, and with each new game I think "This is it!" and then it's good, but not good enough, usually.

I'm hoping this year is the year it turns around (and with Kart and Smash and who knows what else, it certainly has the potential)

DK is a long Ball, like Mario, the Game will probably pull Multimillion sales eventually, but it's the Kind of Game that will sell through the life of the Console. Initial sales were low, but the first full month will be March NPD.

"Holy crap it's almost 3 time to.... oh... PST... I knew that."

My reaction when I saw the thread again -_- Le sigh. I'm more hyped than I should be.

I'm looking for some kind of secret code in your apparently random capitalization of certain words... I can't find one.

3D World paired with the Holiday spiked Wii U Sales 400%. DK we won't know til March NPD, but it doesn't seem like it caused a Bump.

Yeah, we saw how that worked with SM3DW. Unless Nintendo is able to keep a good flow of games and the momentum after MK8 nothing is a system seller. MK8 has a great mindset and produced hype. If that is transformed just in a sales peak at the end of May and nothing until November, Nintendo won't have too many income sources this year.

I don't think it's too crazy to see Smash and Mario Kart releasing relatively closely to each other (Less than 6 months, hopefully) pushing system sales. No where near Xbone or PS4 as of now, but I can see the Wii U starting to do much better upon their releases. They have a much different draw than 3D World or Donkey Kong, even though those are both big franchises.
