I thought it was incredible how far Sakurai went to let everyone know he is taking competitive players seriously:

1) Final Destination "mode" for online play.
2) Stage alterations for more competitive play.
3) Several random elements removed, such as Dedede's projectile throws.
4) No more forced character changes; full movesets for all characters (Charizard over Pokemon Trainer's stamina mechanic).
5) Deep movesets that require high execution, like Rosalina.
6) Going out of his way to tell Wii U Smash buyers to get a wired connection (WOW!)
 
The stream was so bad I had to watch on lower than 240p, but I was so hyped for Greninja reveal trailer because I thought it was Mewtwo. :(
Well... there's still a chance it may make its return, and I kinda like Greninja.

Overall an awesome Direct. I just wish we would have gotten a new Metroid rep, and a simultaneous release date for Wii U and 3DS. Can't wait to try out Smash Run this summer.
 
Felt great to see that Zelda does in fact have a new down B....that the Villager can somehow capture lol. Just think about how that could work in Team Doubles.

OK I was looking at the Ridley bit again and I think it's just about as good as an outright confirmation. My reasons to believe this are manifold:
1) The foreshadowing (pun intended) is starting to get blatant.

2) Dark Samus, Metroid and Mother Brain all are ATs. This obviously means the Metroid universe is expanding, since that's already 2 more ATs than Brawl had.

3) The "trophy quiz" bit had a Metroid trophy in it. I firmly believe those 4 trophies are hints to some of the remaining newcomers (I mean, Pseudo-Palutena basically confirms it).

Most importantly 4) When the "boss character" of Pyrosphere was teased, it was pretty clearly Ridley. However, if you look closely at what that shadow is doing, it doesn't look like Ridley is interacting with the stage at all. Yellow Devil was shooting and separating/reassembling himself, but Ridley was just flapping forward an inch and then just hovering there. That doesn't seem like something a boss character would do, now would it? Ridley would attack, not just fly there and pick his nostril.

MULTIPLE VERSIONS of FD, and the acknowledgment of the hardcore crowd with the For Glory Mode, that automatically does what some have been doing since Day 1.

Brilliant.

Now that the 3DS version is coming out waaaaay before the Wii U version, and I already own a 3DS (2DS, really) I am forced to get it. Should be great fun until the console version, drops this winter. Gives me plenty of time to get my monies right for the Wii U purchase, too.

Zelda's Stand Power is awesome.
Final Smashes look great, and a bit more thought out.
All the wonderful items, and Pokemon, and MASTER BALL, and Stage Hazards.

AND MOTHERFUCK, RIDLEY DECONFIRMED and is a stupid Stage Hazard. Tears.
 
I'm excited about the possible Brawl and Melee stages returning. Maybe some N64 ones can appear on the 3DS too?

Greninja looks awesome. He was my Y starter, I'm gonna try and main him.

Zero-Suit Samus looks beautiful in this game. Amazing.

I'm somewhat disappointed that Sakurai thinks "Final Destination" is the only stage competitive players play on. We like other stages that are neutral, not just flat. Battlefield type stages are great. The Dr. Wily's Castle would have been fine without the Yellow Devil, etc.

Excited to play the game. Not too happy the 3DS version is coming first (though I own 2) but great non-the-less. But what part of Summer? Nintendo thinks mid September is summer too. Hoping for July at least.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe it's Meta Ridley that's gonna be the Stage hazard.
 
The online sounds exactly the same as brawls: Options when you're playing with friends and absolutely fucking nothing for people playing by themselves. Why can't I customize matching in solo online mode? Why?

We're potentially nearing this future. =P There are already people drawing conclusions both ways, from the same source material.
 
Releasing first on 3ds and giving it extra features is a terrible decision, the wii u needs help and their release schedule will hurt its sales.

I hope the final destination version of the stages have small variations with platforms, such as battlefield. That would make For Glory perfect.
 
No wonder why Neogaf was downn for me. These new updates look incredible. Haven't seen everything but is there any reason for Zero Suit Samus's new heels? This and MK8 makes is making the Wii U much more tempting.
