What's the feeling on the usefulness of adaptability these days? I've taken a few points out of mine and am not noticing much difference, considering taking the rest out as well

How long you can use a torch for

So, I can keep lighting that torch till the timer is gone? How do I know I have more than one? I keep looking in my inventory and can't seem to find them. Also, why is it that sometimes playing online it says task completed before we reached a boss? Am I being kicked? Sorry for all the questions, I tried looking at the wiki but couldn't really find a solid answer. It say's 40 min one session, but sometimes I play with someone for about 5 min and get returned.

I dunno, I've spent some points on it and I think I notice faster dodges and using your estus flask seems slightly quicker. or maybe I'm just getting better at the game.

Torches aren't in your inventory, you light them by going up to a bonfire and pressing triangle to toggle. Once your torch is lit you can use it until the timer runs out. Putting it away stops the timer again. Picking up more torches just adds 5 mins to the counter.

Not sure about your coop question. Maybe it's because you were using the small soapstone?

When you get a torch it adds to your timer. Torchs are not on your inventory.

You are probably using the small white soapstone to be summoned. It works differently than the (normal) White Soapstone. Small soapstone only works for a while, and sometimes if will disconnect after killing a stronger enemy, if I'm not wrong. Though it can be used to kill bosses as well.

Edit: beaten to a pulp.

Then definitely get you FAI/INT up to 20/20 and go speak to felkin. the spells I always keep are flame swathe x1, dark orb x 2 and great resonant soul x1. If you don't mind rolling with no shield, get your STR up to 20 and 2-H the Crypt Greatsword (I took mine up to 40 to 1-H it).
My stats for 150 SL will be (I'm at 139 right now):

VGR: 15
END: 20
STA: 20
ATT: 35
STR: 40
DEX: 10
ADP: 8
INT: 30
FAI: 30

Since I won't be PvPing, I'll go past that too. The biggest downside to hexing is casting speed, so you'll have to wear gear and the ring to increase it.

I thought
you could fight the two of them outside the boss door?

Right now I've got 30 FTH, 40 INT and 33 ATN. I'm running lion mage/casting ring and hexers hood+archdrake staff +6

THE. CUNT. IS. DEAD.

Started out by activating the RTSR on the way to the boss, and casting Sunlight Blade at the fog door. In the end I just used a whole mish-mash of strategies people suggested:

1. Hanging out in front of his head for the almost safe pattern of breath fire/attacking his feet, then run out run away as he flies up and breathes fire and those two alternating until he gets closer to the entrance and you can't run away any more as the fire would reach the fog door, on to:

2. Slashing at his feet from under his belly, back and forth a couple of slashes to different back feet, rolling to avoid any stomps and positioning the camera to see if he will fly or breath fire underneath him. He did the latter, so I ran out and waited on the otherside of a back foot, ran back in and repeated. He flew up but only to jump back towards the very back of the arena - this was my LUCKY break. It meant I could go back to #1 but now he was even further away from the door so I had more time to get damage in on that pattern that was more predictible and "safe" before he inched to close to outrun the flying flame attack again.

3. As he got closer to the fog door I had to go back to #2, only he did more flying up now, I followed the tail twice and he turned around, now reseting himself to pattern #1 but in the opposite direction. I knew it was over now as I was in a more confident position just the opposite direction. I chomped a herb and got another Sunlight Blade cast and slashed his foot to fucking pieces, the bastard!

Now to respec, finally open up Felkin as a merchant and then on to NG+ - I never want to do this boss ever again...
until next character!

I don't know how you guys are having such an easy time on the dragon. I've died like 20 times to him now. I know how to run when he's breathing fire, but even when I start running even before he takes off I still get obliterated

Bosses killed on my lvl 1 Deprived run so far:
Last Giant
Dragonrider
Old Dragonslayer
Flexile Sentry
Ruin Sentinels
Belfry Gargoyles
Skeleton Lords
Covetous Demon
Mytha the Baneful Queen
Scorpioness Najka
Prowling Magus
Lost Sinner

Not leveling means I can spend all my souls on firebombs and throwing knives etc.
Currently struggling with
Duke's Dear Freja
.

Trust me, I did not have an easy time! I did it naked because you're getting one shot any way, and the red tearstone ring for the same reason.

I still say it's 50% luck. If you make one wrong decision or he gets looped into flying up or something, you're toast.

Been going through the same thing currently.

I have used a dual handed mace for a majority of the game. Ive picked up pyromancy for ranged attacks but it just really doesnt do enough damage for me to use consistently.

Im currently at the shrine of amana. Ive gotten to the end of it twice, only to die to the cluster of 3 guys at the end.

:(

The highlight of the entire thing was beating the sinner. The hype that ensued was intense.

I did the classic kill NPCs to see if they drop any decent loot at the end of my first playthrough, completely forgot about sin. Went to see the Oswald-alike to pay it off before NG+ and also forgot I'd killed him first. My current playthrough is so rife with blue phantoms.

Same thing happened to me. Ended up rage quitting for awhile. *grumbles*

Freya down after just 3 attempts! Flame Sword still owning fools. I saw someone mention family responsibilities getting in the way--I just got this done while my wife stepped out to a school board meeting and my kids played "indoor" soccer right in front of me, darting back and forth, pass my line of vision, soccer ball smacking against the radiators, while I'm circle strafing and smashing those creepy spiders like a boss. We gotta get it done, my friend. Somehow, someway.

Interesting that you increased INT over FAI. Are you planning on getting FAI up there too, or leaving it? Also, if you're going hex build, I think the SS staff has an S on Dark (whereas the Archdrake is only A). I'm running the same gear except on the chest I wear the dark armour (so I have some decent defense).

There are
two outside the door too, but there are also two pyromancy red invaders during the fight now

REALLY?? Do they respawn? Because I've co-oped that boss as a phantom and have never seen the 2 invaders...

I'm just using a dagger, and flame swathe at least does a lot of damage with an ugraded glove. Need to farm the dwarves in
Belfry Sol
when I get there so I can get another one.
How are you using the mace though? Can you just wield it as normal when two-handing it?
Haven't had any problems in Shrine of Amana with my first character but I'm definitely not looking forward to going there with this one :(
And yeah beating Sinner felt really good. That was the fight I most feared I guess.

I wish that was an option for me. I have to wait until they are in bed. See, just last night I thought they were asleep and started playing. I slogged through
Shrine of Amana and took down Demon of Song
only to realize my 8 yr old daughter had gotten up and was standing behind me with mouth agape. I hope it didn't give her nightmares. Game time was over...

Yeah by dual handing the mace, you can use it normally without losing damage due to stat deficiencies.

The best part about it is that it has a high chance at staggering bosses like Mytha. She was someone I feared originally, but with the mace, she was barley even a challenge.

The best part about the SL1 run is that everything you do is intensified by a million degrees. Its made me a better player in general and my dodging has dramatically improved.

Ah, yeah, mine are 11 & 12 and generally think of Dark Souls as "that game that makes Daddy crazy." My son has actually been playing the first on his own (spottily--he's stopped a little after taking down the Gargoyles) even though I help point him in the right direction when he's really stuck. Just before, he wanted me to summon help for Freya. I was like son, that's now how we do things! But I feel you--only Dark Souls makes me game in the middle of the evening with the kids around, otherwise I try late night and I'm usually so tired it doesn't happen.

Goiys, if I'm rocking a DEX/FTH build, does it make sense to infuse a +10 Heide Knight Sword with lightning, given that it already has lightning damage?

I'm so not down with Infusion; I've rarely dabbled in it over the course of 3 Souls games. I'm more of a STR/DEX scaling cat, but seeing as that's apparently comparatively shit, I guess it's time to make my foray.

absolving your sins won't lower your sin level anyway. All it does is resetting aggroed NPCs.

Who ever came up with the "exploding mummy" enemy at FROM is a terrible person. Worst design in an enemy ever. Why the fuck does it explode? Why doesn't it die when it does?

Such lazy ass, stupid design. Zero creativity.

I wonder if they're planning to patch infinite ascetic
Giant Lord
with new patch, but not mentioning it so people don't stockpile souls pre-patch...
