Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

god damn just watched the direct. so hype. though my first reaction to charizard was... really? after all the teasing and fan hopes for ridley, we get charizard...

wasn't one of the reasons people felt ridley was unlikely as a character because of his size and subsequent difficulty implementing proper movesets? well i just have to look at charizard to know that size/moveset issues aren't really a factor for sakurai or his team. ridley could have been in there :( still hoping we see something on down the road though. the metroid franchise needs some more love in the character department.
zero suit samus looks awesome tho.

that being said, holy fuck i'm hype. gonna get both 3ds and wii u versions. easier on the wallet since they're coming out in different times of the year too. and now that i know they're not being released simultaneously, i kind of appreciate the difference in maps more.

though i do need to upgrade to a 3ds xl before this drops...

Seeing Midna is so cool! :) I love Twilight Princess.

Giratina? For some reason I thought we had a screen shot of Lugia.
I think my brain is overloading.

Altogether how many Pokemon does that make? Brawl had about 35, didn't it?

I counted 36 pokemon so far.

I'm curious -- is Greninja popular among Pokémon fans or big in the anime? It just seems like a completely random character to include.

From what I see and heard that Greninja is very popular starter pokemon for this generation. Also he is one of most popular pokemon this generation as well.

man i'm gonna miss snake

Same here. :(

You could say Shiek is from OoT and Zelda is from Twilight, Link is from Skyward and TL is from Wind Waker

Shiek and Zelda are not the same character in this version of the game anymore

shiek is based off a concept art for twilight princess

Why is zss wearing heels?

I thought the heels were really stupid in Other M, but the way they are designed here they seem like they could be more practical in aiding in Samus' jumping and landing ability in a similar vain to the long fall boots from Portal:

Rather than being part of the Zero Suit they are strapped to it and they look like they'd cushion her falls better and add some spring to her jumps.

I only like time when there's a huge skill gap between players. Whenever you have your 4 year old nephew and niece over, and either will cry if they're out of the match early. That sort of thing.

I see sitting out as your punishment for losing. Continuing to play is more of a motivation than actually winning the match. (That comes up when rotating 1v1 stock matches too. Winner stays in, the real goal is to continue playing).

Fair point on aggression, but I feel like the loss of control you have over the results outweighs it. Even if you get your kills, another player can beat you without ever interacting with you by killing someone else faster. In stock mode, if you lose it was because you screwed up.

Strategically choosing targets and potentially ganging up is the fun of free for alls, to me. Ideally, everyone should swarm the strongest player, balancing things out.

But you're not going to get good sitting out and watching other people play, you get good by playing. Smash isn't the kind of game you go home and practice so you can beat your friends in a 4 player FFA, it's meant to be a fun time game.

And I'd say part of the fun/challenge of a time match is keeping an eye on who is getting kills and who is high/low on %. If you only go after one player the whole match and you lose because the other guy killed the last player faster/more times then you maybe you should have targeted him instead.

There's also no guilt when you attack the guy in last who has only 1 stock left while everyone else still has 2-3+. This always pisses me off because it's a no win situation, either the guy just avoids battles until he accidentally gets finished or until someone else gets to 1 stock left. Or you pick on and eliminate that 1 stock person first and then they have to sit out for 2-4 minutes while everyone else finishes the match.

Out of all the new starters it is definitely the most popular one. And it's a legitimately good Pokémon, too.

Not sure what other Gen VI Pokémon could possibly be representative of the franchise, barring Mega Evolutions.

With Shiek and Zelda being separate, they are technically not the same person.

Shiek - OoT
Zelda - TP

not that it matters. Enough with body figure talk....I was just pointing it out.

I guess samus and zero suit samus are different too :P

They both use the same character model from brawl, where sheik was 'inspired by twilight princess concept art'. In brawl, she TRANSFORMED into sheik. Neither character model has been changed, therefore I insist it's still the same person, and not the OoT zelda acting as sheik, or she'd look more like the OoT version, which looks like this:

Actually, Charizard in Smash is pretty accurate to it's original game size. According to the PokeDex, the average Charizard is 5'07'' and weighs about 200 pounds. That is hardly a stretch to have alongside human fighters. Even in the anime, it is only about a head taller than the relatively short Ash Ketchum.

On the other hand, Ridley is typically two or three stories tall. So you can't really compare the two in the size department.

For some reason splitting ZSS and Shiek into their own characters and putting on them into their own roster icon kind of reminds me of those shitty looking fan rosters you see on google that has everyone and their grandma in the roster.

typically when playing with a large group of friends, it's 3 stocks, loser is out and gets replaced by next in line
so you get last, you're not waiting for shit, hand over the controller to the next guy

I'm really glad that transformations are gone.

-The reason why Zelda was so slow in Brawl was because you were "supposed to" change into Sheik to rack up damage.
-The reason why Sheik was so weak in Brawl was because you were "supposed to" change into Zelda to kill.
-The reason why Charizard had a stamina effect going on was to "encourage" you to switch mid-stock to another Pokemon.
-Samus was supposed to be stronger than Zero Suit Samus while Zero Suit Samus was supposed to be weaker, but faster. Of course, it turned out that Samus was the weakest character in the game by far, but still.

Now that transformations are gone, these arbitrary limits to these characters have no reason to exist anymore. A very good change all around.

What is that green toy thing?

Substitute. It's a move that allows a pokemon to hide behind a doll that takes attacks for it by sacrificing some HP. The doll stays in battle until the HP you gave it reaches 0. It's a clever move for Greninja since substituting oneself for a log is a common ninja trope.

In time mode you just cannot get the same level of tension that some stock games can achieve, period.

I literally just remembered what it was right before you posted. I can't believe I forgot.

Thanks.

btw who uses Water Shuriken and Substitute on a legit Greninja set in the games? lol

Water shuriken, no. The STAB bonus doesn't even help that at a lucky 5/5 hits the base damage is 75.

Substitute is a pretty viable competitive move, depends on what role you want a Greninja to play
