First timer here, just beat the first (?) boss
and, as I haven't played DaS either, I have a bunch of pretty basic questions:
- What's the purpose of the fog doors? Masking load times?
- Any way to compare the stats of my currently equipped weapon / armor with the ones from the shop?
- Equipped weapons on the first slot deal more damage than in the 2nd and 3rd slot? What about shields?
- Is it preferable to upgrade weapons and armor or to buy new ones?
- How do I point my bow / crossbow in first person?
- Got the sword from the sitting knight in the
, it's weaker than my current sword (120 vs 75) but I see that it deals lighting damage (50 or so). Should I use it?
1. Fog doors create tension. You don't know what's on the other end of the door until you traverse it. It could be an ambush. It could be a bonfire. It could be a boss (and it often is). It makes for a good fakeout when you think a bossfight is ahead and start to get nervous only to find a bonfire.
2.Unfortunately I don't believe a way to compare weapons from the shop.
3. What slot you have a weapon in does not have any impact on it's damage output.
4. It's not an either or thing here. With weapons you want to find one that has good scaling with your primary stat, and has a moveset that you like. If you find a weapon that you like, then you are going to want to upgrade it. There is no linear progression of weapons in this game. You may find a weapon in the first hour of the game that you use all the way through the end. Or you may find a weapon late in the game that is better than your current one, and then you have to upgrade it a bunch to bring it up to par with your other upgraded weapons.
Similarly with armor, you are looking for something with a good balance of weight and defenses. There is no best armor, because some armor is too heavy for certain builds, while light armor would be too weak for other builds. It all comes down to how much you want to invest in the Vit stat. Or just pick the one that looks the coolest. But when you find a good set of armor, keep it upgraded.
5. When you two-hand a bow/crossbow (this should happen automatically with a bow), holding the attack button for the opposite hand (L1 if you have it in your right hand and R1 if you have it in your left hand) will allow manual aim.
6. Couldn't tell you. There are pros and cons to both. Weapons that have two attack types (physical + an element) have to pass through two different defenses, which means in general they will do less damage than a pure physical attack for pure melee builds. However, if you have a lot of faith, you get a bonus to lightning damage that might partly offset this penalty. Also, the lightning damage will allow you to do damage to enemies even when they are guarding (most shields do not have 100% lightning defense), and some enemies might resist physical but be weak to lightning.
