Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

In hate flat stages even more. I'm not really into competitive smash. At all.

My personal favourites are things like the Great Fox from 64/Melee (best stage ever), Onett, Zelda's Castle, Pokémon Stadium, etc. Stages with interactive stuff or unconventional forms.

Yep, those are the most fun most of the time. But I'd guess you are safe. There will be some retro stages returning and also new ones that follow their layout. I hope there will be one or two remakes of classic stages.

woah

I hope they don't touch that move! One of the most satisfying things to pull off and get back on stage or hit someone.

Also didn't they 'just' remove Pit's glide ability? Maybe that move is exclusive to Glurak now.

No, Pit's third jump seems to quickly launch him now, much like most standard third jump attacks. It's not the slow free flight from Brawl anymore.

Is it likely that all the characters we've seen are unlocked from the start, and that remaining characters are possibly not being shown as they're unlockables?

Anyone got a link to all those wiiu/3ds screenshots handy? I just got on laptop and lost em.

Great Fox has to be in, it's been in every smash up until now. Would be a total letdown if they didn't bother putting it in.

Aside from the Third Party characters in Brawl, that has been true for every Smash game before release. It also has never been explicitly announced, so, during Brawl's pre-release period, there were people thinking that we were getting unlockable characters revealed before release too.

Galaga i.e. a Namco reference.

That's what I was thinking. I haven't played twinbee or many other NES/Arcade era shooters other than space invaders, really. I thought they were galaga but didn't want to blatantly guess and be wrong. Namco confirmed!

Did you know: Competitive Smash has Pokemon Stadium as a counterpick stage.

The more you know...!

Anyway...

One thing that's still unclear is how the Mega forms for Lucario and Charizard work. It really doesn't look like they are Final Smashes at all. Then again we didn't see them transform in the first place so it's possible they're final smashes I guess... it'd be kind of lame if they were though. There should be a special condition/requirement you have to meet to transform into them, it'd be really cool if they weren't locked to getting the Smash Ball.

I guess we'll see.

Exactly!

We also need Peach or Zelda teaching her that pooping on cars isn't something humans should be doing.

Edit: On the subject of design, I'd actually really like to see a Captain Falcon that takes more from his SNES design.

Back in his Judging days. Judge Dredd is cool so I'd be ok with that.

Seems most of Nintendo's biggest and most popular characters are spoofs of the other characters, stories or tropes. King Kong, Star Wars, Judge Dredd, Toilken, Alice in Wonderland.

This thing on NeoGAF where criticizing games = bad is really nonsensical. The whole purpose of a gaming forum is to discuss games, it can't always be corporate and game praising 24/7 since every person is different and has their own tastes. Trying to shut other people's views down as "deal with it" does nobody any favors.

You can't stop someone from having their own viewpoint, and I'm sure you wouldn't want someone harping on you for praising this game as if it was wrong to do so.

I'm all about criticizing games. I hate the whole "It's just an opinion" bit just as much as anyone else. I just hate people griping over things that don't need to be griped about. Spending this much time complaining about the size of her boobs is just ridiculous. Like I said, she's always been about sex appeal as soon as she steps out of her suit.

Guess what, sexualized characters in gaming have rarely looked realistic, especially in games where they aren't going for realism. That is something worth discussing, but only if talking about gaming as a whole. This thread is not the place for that.

And this is a party/fighting game. If you want to complain about something, complain about the mechanics, how fun the game is (or isn't), character selection, or any number of things that actually matter.

[FALCON] [DREDD]

Classic Falcon is like what you'd get if Dredd was turned into a GI Joe character. (which is basically just perfection)

I could care less about her bust size. My biggest gripe is that she's just very cut and dry for the lady behind the power armor. It's all personal taste/opinion, but I know I'd like to see a Samus who looks like she was raised by birds and who cares about practicality over beauty. The jet powered high heels and long, luxurious hair are all things you give to a female character because she's female. It doesn't reflect a more unique design, it reflects what's expected.

It is what it is, though, and if people like female characters who look nice over ones that are buff and grungy then that's totally fine. I'd just love to see a fresh approach to Samus, but her current design is obviously successful, just not something I find aesthetically pleasing.
While that may be true in most cases, unlike the heels in Other M, these heels look practical. They look like something someone who leaps high and falls far would wear.

And even guys get in on it:

The original purpose of high heels was to aid in gripping stirrups by horse riders, and modern boots, including combat boots, still have slight heels (though obviously not as tall, but then soldiers aren't expected to leap 20 feet in the air and fall 100s of feet). Plus they don't look very designed for sex appeal.

I don't know why, but Yoshi's left hand/arm looks creepy here.

Yoshi in general looks creepier now... Nintendo has ever steadily been making him more and more anthropomorphized and it just looks wrong... I mean he's still wearing his saddle for crying out loud!

(edit) Or has Nintendo decided over the years that that is a shell now? If so it's even worse from a design perspective.

WHY THIS IS NOT IN X AND Y ???
Is that the supposed E4 stage? Which game is that based on?

They look exactly like final Smashes, like Giga Bowser and Wario Man before them. Otherwise (at least Lucario's) would be completely broken.

OK, So here's my thoughts on Returning/Wanted characters, and signs on why they MIGHT be in and why the MIGHT NOT be in

Snake:
+ Unique moveset, not many nintendo reps could use all of his moves
+ Was the best moment of the original trailer, made a lot of people surprised and excited to play smash
- MGS GS/TPP Snubbed Nintendo
- David Hayter snubbed as snake
- Should have probably already been revealed
- A lot more voiceover work for codec calls would be required
- Sheik stole his grenade

Ridley:
+ If he's not in, why not just show him outright, and not a silhouette? What's the purpose of the tease?
- Tease might just be to hype that ridley is actually in the game, vs not at all (average fan is supposed to think, wow how cool, ridley is a stage boss!', not 'Oh man, ridley isn't playable')
- He's probably just a 'boss hazard'

Palutena:
+ Removed from pit's final smash
+ Trophy tease RIGHT after showing she was removed from pit's final smash
+ Kid Icarus uprising fleshed her out as a character, gave her a personality and a potential move set
+ Sakurai is responsible for Kid Icarus revival. It's his game, and he can show favor toward it
- Palutena is a statue on a stage. No other smash character is a statue on a stage.
+ Toon link is replaced by alphonso, so being on a stage doesn't mean you can't appear in the game
- She is a goddess!
+ So is rosalina!

Squirtle:
+ Unique moveset
- Greninja :(

Ivysaur:
+No plant type starters
+Unique moveset
- Too many pokemon reps already?

Mewtwo:
+ Mega evolutions of pokemon X/Y made him popular again
+ Has a fairly unique moveset, excluding his neutral B, which is somewhat similar to lucario
+ No other psychic type pokemon
- Too many pokemon reps already
- Might have officially been 'replaced' by lucario in brawl

Captain Falcon, Ness, Jigglypuff:
+ Been in every smash bros
+ Jiggly has always been secret
+ Ness/Falcon were secret in 64 and brawl
- Luigi has already been revealed, and he was always secret
+ Luigi was probably an exception for 'year of luigi'

Edit:

Pac man:
+ Galaga guys are in the game
+ S-flag in game (from rally-X) [thanks Zonic 505]
+ Namco bandai working on the game
- He's a dumb character for a fighting game, classic version lacks personality entirely
+ Sakurai is a smart guy, and if anyone can make him work, it's sakurai and team
+ He's already raced alongside mario in mario kart arcade games
- A lot of people, myself included, don't want him in. Doesn't mean what we think matters, though

Mii:
+ Huge part of nintendo's history since 2006
+ used in dozens of nintendo games
- Already appears in background of find mii stage
- Could be used for profile purposes (global smash power, online avatar), and not actual fighting.

Galaga i.e. a Namco reference.
Not to mention, Rally-X is in as well, due to the S-Flag being an item, though I can't help but wonder what exactly it'll do.

But yeah, considering we don't see items/assist trophies based on 3rd party games without some kind of playable representative, I'm convinced we're getting a Namco character, mainly Pac-Man because he'd fit the bill of "Classic Namco arcade games" we're seeing with Galaga & Rally-X.

- Palutena is a statue on a stage. No other smash character is a statue on a stage.

Without going into much detail I'm just going to say that a location called "Palutena's Temple" is probably going to have statues of her regardless of physical presence.

with going into more detail: that statue was an addition to KI:U's depiction of her temple, it's the backdrop of the arena where you fight her after she's possessed by the Chaos Kin

'

When I saw that Sheik was given a grenade I almost lost it.
We didn't specifically see exactly how it works but I hope snake isn't just going to be mangled and his moveset thrown all over the place if he isn't in.
