Yup. You can actually run past all the enemies. You'd want to kill the dude which drops the sublime bone dust though. The boss is easy though. If you're going for minimal melee you can grab the fire long sword in the salamander tunnel at the forest.
I made it to no man's but where the hell is this trainer. Can't seem to find them. Thought you were referring to another npc.

Do you think their inclusion in DeS or DaS 1 made those games "your average AAA experience"?

I said that they try, not that they succeed. There's more to Souls games than hidden bonfires and secret treasures, but still, having messsages around signposting every last detail of a level takes away some of the enjoyment I get from exploration.

Why not just play offline then?

Yeah, the lag surely is improved, if you like lots of it.

I had some good lag today as a shade helping with the Ruin Sentinels. After beating the first guy I was ready to dodge, waiting for the second guy to jump up onto the platform. I saw him jump, freeze in mid-air, rubber-band slightly and then suddenly teleport onto the platform and all my health disappeared.

Wait, you think they were trying to make DeS and DaS 1 bog-standard AAA experiences by including messages...?

Yeah the co-op lag is pretty infuriating. I've had plenty of moments where enemies would not react to me at all. No hit sound playing, no animations triggering, just random HP loss on both sides.

I killed so many people last night by faking them out with pyromancy. I would get their health down to a low level, and they would start to run away to go heal and I wind up my pyromancy and they think I'm going to toss the fire orb at them but instead I am using the firestorm or whatever it's called that makes fire pillars come out of the ground so they run towards me thinking they can avoid the fire orb and get free hits on me and then they die to the swarm of fire pillars.

How can you get 500K in souls?
Doesn't the boss drop like 90,000 souls?
By default he drops like 250k souls or so on NGx9 difficulty. But with that silver ring +2 and jester gloves he drops like 435k souls. Then add the 25k boss soul and another 30k in souls from the enemies in the memory gets you really close to 500k souls.

Repeat this every 5 minutes and it adds up very quickly.

Well helped a few strangers with some weapons. As i said earlier i want to start a fresh as this gameplay has finished, do not plan on playing NG+ as i did before. So if anyone needs any items or weapons, please shoot me a pm. I have boss weapons, tons of titanites, healing items etc. I would like to help a fellow gaffer if i can. PS3.

So you burn the ascetic at the bonfire above the stairs? Doesn't it make the whole area too hard though? I had such a hard time on NG, it being the first area and all.

Edit: Also, I was asking about a quality str/dex weapon build, but most of the folks said there really wasn't such a good weapon since scaling ain't all that. I tried out the Curved Dragon Greatsword, +5, and by my stats I do a 604 damage. Base damage of the weapon is 400. My blacksteel katana has 402, even though base weapon damage is 195. With some enemies I dish out around 730 in one hit, which is really great, but still, with 400 damage and S scaling, I thought I'd be doing 800 damage instead of the 600.

No you burn this at the 4th bonfire behind the kings door. This is the
Giant Lord
boss at end of game, not 1st boss

Don't press on the messages then.

I guess some of them point out where the hidden walls are but meh.

Half of the illusory wall ones are trolling though. No way to tell until you try.

Anyway, if you don't read them then they are no different to blood stains indicating that you could potentially die in an area or petrified players indicating the presence of Basilisks.

Anybody use the
bow of want?
I currently use the
Hunter's Blackbow.
Would
bow of want
be worth getting and upgrading or is not that great? The special ability sounds nice, but even on paper doesn't seem worth it to me overall.

I'm just using a Short Bow with Lightning infused +10 and it seems acceptable. Never got a Sea bow drop but I heard it's good. Are the boss bows worth it?

Nope, I didn't write that either.

"It's like some people are intent on transforming the Souls games into your average AAA experience in which you're told the solution to every situation before you even get the chance to try for yourself."

I meant the people who put all the super helpful signs, not Fromsoft. And I was half joking by the way, I don't really think they're part of a nefarious conspiracy to casualize the Souls series.

But still, since you bring it up so much, other games make objects glow, or show 'secrets' in your minimap, they're sometimes called 'dumbed down' for it, is it really that much different when there's a big bright orange sign next to every illusory wall or non obvious path on a level? Sure maybe From didn't put them there by hand but the end result is the same. And I'm pretty sure that by now they count on it happening the way it does.

Thanks Thanasis!

Too bad about not being able to compare equipment, I suppose that's not the point of the game as every other RPG has this.

I asked about the weapon slots because when leveling up there's a window on the right side which reads Right Weapon and Left Weapon, with I, II and III icons on them, which led me to believe that it meant weapon slots.

Well, comparing equipment is definitely an important facet of this game. It's just that the UI doesn't allow it in shops for whatever reason. You can still compare in gritty detail when an item is in your inventory, but it is annoying to have to buy an item to do so.

As for weapon slots, it's possible I misunderstood your original question. The Right Weapon I, II, III do refer to the three equip slots in your right hand, and their damage output. But there's no damage bonus from having a weapon in the first slot over the second. If it is showing Right I as doing more damage, it's because the weapon is stronger, simple as that. Also, that number in there factors in all damage scaling, and adds up all damage types (physical and elemental), so an elemental weapon might appear to do significantly more damage than a physical weapon, even if they are on par in practice.

Nope, I didn't write that either.

90% of the messages that say illusory wall are troll messages placed in front of real walls. The only way your comparison works is if in addition to every secret and interactible object glowing or being highlighted on the minimap, everything in the world is glowing, and there are hundreds of points on the minimap that don't do anything.

Ahh, I gotcha. That did seem a little odd.

It's a community led thing, more like a wiki than an object highlight mechanic. A huge number of messages are comic or purposefully unhelpful, so no, I wouldn't say it's the same thing at all and the end result is quite different.

I'm playing offline. There are NO messages, and I quit hitting walls after the first area, since I thought you needed Pharros Lockstones this time around.

I was watching my friend play online the other day, and damn, there ARE a lot of messages. It's a good point though; instead of a glowing item you get a message in front of the secret. There's a social difference of course, and there's always the idea of missing messages or being the first to discover.

My friend told me there are a bunch of illusory walls. I missed out. Oh well.

So, I need a physical weapon for my hexer with 9 str and 10 dex. I can use the flame sword but flame sword is boring.

I still use the mace the cleric gets at the start. That thing is a beast, infused it with dark, dark weapon buff on top and you get pretty high damage output.

Well, if your friend didn't tell you, you don't discover illusory walls by bashing them this time around (which is good considering the greatly reduced weapon durability in this game), you open them by pressing X (or A on Xbox) in front of them. There is no prompt for this, but you'll certainly know if it worked.

Not all the messages are helpful and many new players literally fall for them.

When I got to Majula on my very first playthrough, the entire cliffside by the tree where the Firekeeper stands was red with bloodstains, so much so that I had trouble talking to her. There was a single message glowing from within that red mass:

"Treasure ahead therefore try jumping".

I suppose people off themselves for encounters that require a hollow form (Navlaan comes to mind, for one instance)

And what's with ALL the blood stains in Majuna, it was really unsettling arriving at the 'hub' for the first time. I thought something really dark was going to happen later in the game.

Haha, right. There has been several places where I was just dumbfounded how so many people died.

I assumed the bloodstains were from them trying to kill some NPCs and got their ass kicked.

The Firekeeper is pretty easy to kill. She hardly fights back, if at all.

When I checked the blood stains people were jumping off the cliff. The message that was amongst all the bloodstains was a dead giveaway as to their reason: greed.

Is there somewhere I can find the best build templates for PVE ?

Finished the game, and now I just want to smash through stuff quickly for trophies and NG+.
