Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

I apologize if this has already been brought up, or has already been discredited, but a thought occurred to me.

Sakurai has been pretty adamant that the Wii U and 3DS versions of the games will have all the same playable characters. However, he's been pretty coy about the connectivity between the two versions beyond potentially customizable attacks. He also has to be aware that the 3DS version coming first is going to spoil the line-up of the Wii U version.

Basically, I'm wondering if one of the features of the connectivity between the two versions is related to unlocking characters. Like, you can unlock the entire roster between the two versions, but there are characters that are only unlockable in the 3DS version, and characters only unlockable in the Wii U. Linking up the two would unlock the characters in the other version once they were found in their proper version. This would simultaneously give reason to buy both versions of the game (can't have the complete experience without both), as well as keep some characters a surprise for the Wii U version (until the 3DS version is inevitably hacked and the other character files are found =P)

The 5 characters locked:

Captain Falcon
Ridley
Palutena
Tiki
Mewtwo?Geno?etc.?

I'd love if they made a couple more characters between releases and just released them as DLC for the 3DS.

Metroid has had an odd amount of representation in assist trophies (3! THREE!) too. That's an awful lot of assists for a series that technically only has one character.

Earlier in the thread, we caught a glimpse of Ridley's rather... white tail. Supposing the white is the back of the tail of Ridley that means OtherM!Ridley shows up in the Pyrosphere... and OtherM!Ridley is a clone of the original.

So even if OtherM!Ridley showed up in the Pyrosphere... RIdley still couldn't be counted out. That's his clone we're talking about here. Zero Suit Samus' page also mentions Other M too. I don't think it's just because it was her latest game either.

Not to mention we mostly saw his shadow. There is something extremely fishy about Metroid this time around and we're not getting any answers, at least not fast.

That argument barely made sense in Brawl where ZSS was a transformation, but now that she's a unique character with her own spot on the select screen it's completely baseless. Metroid has two characters.

If the dev was someone who wasn't unpredictable Sakurai, I will have thought that the shadow Ridley trolling is becuase it's a good surprise for fans and his normal version will be playable. Being Sakurai and what he did yesterday night, Im sure Ridley is not playable and still thinks he is being funny by trolling.

Villager - 8/10; love Animal Crossing to bits, but I wish it had the body structure of New Leaf
Wii Fit Trainer - 20/10; totally unique and got that hometown
Mega Man - 10/10; it's nice to see Mega Man again, FS is awesome-possum
Rosalina - 50/10; [lip bite]
Little Mac - 9/10; don't like his KO meter, he brings awesome songs though
Greninja - 5/10; Of course there would be a new Pokemon character, but mehhhhh

Dark Samus AT looks cool. And I wouldn't be surprised to see that be a full fledged character in a future game.

Then we have Samus, another Samus, and Samus with no armor.
And Ridley
.

I can't contain my hype any more. GAF what do I do? Help me. I need the 3DS game hooked right up this second. Haven't been this hyped for a smash game ever, skipped Brawl, never excited me for some reason.

Going to rate things: Awful, Meh, Great.

Rosalina- Meh, she's become Nintendo's Lightning and I don't like it. She has an interesting moveset but I feel like there were other Mario characters who should have gotten in over her.

Villager- Meh, people have been asking for an Animal Crossing rep for a while and while I understand I didn't like the fact that it was the Villager and not Nook. Villager is a generic character as he's supposed to represent you and I don't like that. Interesting moveset at least.

Wii Fit Trainer- Awful, from a very recent franchise I don't deny it's success but I seriously question whether it should have gotten in over more historical Nintendo franchises. The question of being a generic character is also brought up with her. Only thing redeeming her to me is that people have been comparing her to Jojo which makes me laugh, but not enough to make me actually like her.

Megaman- Great, he looks awesome and the fact that they picked the NES version is even better. Can't wait to try him out.

Little Mac- Great, one of my most wanted inclusions. Mac looks awesome he looks like he'll have a high learning curve but I feel like making him basically useless in the air is a giant gimp. Sure he's super strong on the ground but I feel like that makes him too lopsided. His meter is also worrying as it might be broken but we'll see.

Greninja- Meh/Great, while I love Greninja and it only proves that Froakie was the best 6th gen starter #TeamFroakieSinceDay1. I didn't expect his inclusion at all. In terms of importance it's odd to say I mean he is a starter and he is from the current gen but it's just a very odd pokemon to choose from because aside from those two things which aren't even unique to him he hasn't really been used as a "mascot". His moveset looks really interesting, but there are still other Pokemon who I feel are more important than him who should have been considered but overall I'm fine with Greninja.

Yeah, i thought so too. For its utility, it always seemed a bit overpowered. This make sit a bit better. Also like link's bombs, where you'll want to use in air and then fast fall.
Mega Man's buster shots look really strong too. Like small Falco lasers, only you have the option to do them on the ground and keep your mobility.
Perfect change. Looks like a good edge guard move assuming characters don't snap to the ledge like in brawl...
Yeah. Speaking of which, did any of the footage from yesterday suggest one way or the other on the edge snap thing? Did anyone pay enough attention to notice?

Mentioned before, but didn't see a GIF or WebM. DK has a roll attack now as his dash attack.

No they don't.

Thank you for making this! The roll is a little slower than I would have liked but darn it he rolls and pounds the ground! The only thing I could ever ask for at this point is a clap shock wave and for him to run entirely on his knuckles. DK is complete and when this game is released you guys are gonna get Konged out so hard! My Brawl DK was a monster!

Something I spotted in the Direct that should make any Marth player happy (the GIF is at half speed);

Dont fully understand whats going on here but sweet
If anyone's interested; I've ripped the Direct from YouTube in 1080p, added Japanese audio, soft English subtitles, and chapters (per US YouTube description).

You can download it here: https://mega.co.nz/#!B4IlhI5B!A07l8kZ7AVQU44mgz23sxgrAXi4JSrR6P6Aw_t4UAAg

awesome, thanks.

Rosalina 7/10, I like her but I'm not particularly a fan. Looks fun though
Little Mac 8/10, Not a fan but i really love how he plays, not excited about the "bad" recovery
Wii Fit Trainer 7/10, Love the craziness, need to play to evaluate more since she doesn't have much "character"
Villager 8/10, I would have preferred a known character from AC instead of a plain Villager, moveset looks fine though
Greninja 8/10, Altough my least favorite starter he's still pretty cool and i always love when they go with more obscure characters, clearly here to help 3DS sales
MegaMan 2/10, It is what it is, looks alright.

Rosaline 8/10, Rosalina's been the best Mario character in years and I'm glad she's getting recognised for that

Little Mac 9/10, I haven't played any of the Punchouts but having a dedicated boxer is great and he won't play like anyone else.

Wii Fit Trainer 5/10, I'm pretty much neutral towards her since I didn't use Wii Fit and she's just not that interesting
(dat ass though)

Villager 7/10, he's been a great choice ever since the first madman axe murderers images and gifs started coming out.

Greninja 3/10, it's a unique character and I'm happy Generation 6 got represented but it feels a little eh compared to the rest of them.

Mega Man 10/10, I can't think of a videogame character more perfect for Smash than him.

Yeah. Speaking of which, did any of the footage from yesterday suggest one way or the other on the edge snap thing? Did anyone pay enough attention to notice?

My brother and me were looking for it when Sakurai was talking about Pit's Up Special change. It's hard to tell but it looked like it was there....

Villager "B" : I like characters that use many different aspects from their series as moves. Bonus points for the meme but then loses a couple because he's not environmentally friendly.

Wii Fit Trainer "C" : While the move set is great in both gameplay and aesthetic, I don't think I'll be comfortable playing a manikin.

Mega Man "B" : See Villager and replace enviromentally friendly with having no soul.

Rosalina "C+" : The Luma mechanic looks like an interesting twist, but it always seems like characters with this kind move set are really bad or really broken.

Little Mac "C" : Bottom tier because of gimp ability. Gets points because it reminds me of Roy.

Zero Suit Samus "DD" : See me after class.

Greninja "A" : Next Meta-Knight, calling it now.

Villager 9/10, Animal Crossing deserves a rep and I love how unique his moveset is.

Mega Man 10/10, Mega Man is in Smash Bros. and Sora made him perfect. What more needs to be said?

Wii Fit Trainer 10/10, Wii Fit Trainer was my favorite newcomer at E3. Totally unexpected and fits into Smash Bros. beautifully.

Rosalina 9/10, Outta of all the possible Mario newcomers there could have been, I feel that she was the best choice. Her unique moveset is a bonus.

Little Mac 10/10, Another perfect fit to the Smash Bros universe. I'm surprised it took so long.

Greninja 10/10, Mother fucking Greninja. My favorite newcomer and my definite new main.

Sakurai has been nailing it with the newcomers. Usually I'm either happy or indifferent, but I've loved every single one thus far.

I won't rate them but I'm fine with all the newcomers. I've learned not to judge the characters until I've played with them myself. My favorite so far is Little Mac.

Rosalina 10/10, Quite biased here, because I really like her, and never expected her to be in. I can understand people not liking her though;
Little Mac 5/10, certainly deserving of the spot, but I never got all the hype surrounding him, I've always thought the character looks pretty bland;[/B]
Wii Fit Trainer 8/10, I like her, the character makes sense and it's good to have more representation of recent characters;
Villager 7/10, While I don't care much for the character itself, he looks fun to play as, and animal crossing needed representation besides stages/itens;
Greninja 8/10, Nice pokemon, and makes complete sense from gen 6 standpoint. I'd prefer if he replaced Lucario and Mewtwo came back though;
MegaMan 10/10, The only way to be better is if it were X instead...I have soft spot for X. The final smash makes kinda makes up for it

I haven't posted here yet post-Direct. I need to rewatch it and collate my impressions altogether.

Do people honestly think Ridley will be a playable character when he was announced as a stage Hazard on the Metroid level?

He never outright showed Ridley and as has already been mentioned - why not just show him and disconfirm him as playable last night? Sakurai knows what he's doing, why tease him if it's not a big (tee hee) deal.

The reason I still believe he might have a shot, is the way his shadow moved, and the level at which he was flying. Why would a character like Ridley idly drift by at a snail's pace and come to a halt? If he's a stage hazard I think he'll be much more dynamic in his animations and wouldn't just hang around giving you a chance to hit him. I also think his shadow makes him seem a lot bigger than he would be if he were playable.

I'm not a staunch advocate for his inclusion but it would be so cool for Metroid fans to finally get some fan-service in the game, and also so we can finally shut the hell up speculating about it like this every time a Smash game comes about!

Well I just notice something weird. in the For Glory segment, once little mac charged up his Power meter, a little flashing red arrow appeared at the left edge of the screen

Why hello there, next obvious AT to Newcomer for Super Smash Bros 5.
That would be sex.
Funny thing, this gif shows exactly why Dark Samus would work pretty well as a character, being also different enough from Samus. Well, guess there's always Smash Bros 5.
At least people will no longer believe she is (To quote the Brawl trophy) "identical to Samus in every way but color—she even uses similar attacks."

Considering the fact that she's being shoehorned into a bunch of games, are you seriously going to tell me you don't see a parallel?

Not even close. She's a character in the mario universe. She appears in mario games. Mario kart, mario party, mario 3d world, yeah, perfectly acceptable. It's not like final fantasy where every iteration of the game is basically a different universe.
