Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

But unlike Ridley, ZSS and Palutena's "deconfirmations" were immediately shown to be jokes. Ridley wasn't. It's probably not a safe bet.

True, true. Though the entire model (other than the tail) being kept off-screen felt a bit trolly... not sure what to think of that. Had Ridley just been shown outright, no two ways about it, I'd take it more as a complete deconfirmation.

Hey, does anyone think those trophy quizs might become a legitimate thing? Because that would be an awesome feature of the game

Haha, no. They were fun, but I think he just wanted a cool divider in his extremely long, record-breaking direct. Smash is all about appreciating nintendo and video game history, so guessing the trophies was just a fun way to do that and grab your attention between segments (not that it needed any more grabbing).

I'm now on my 5th full watching of the direct, lol

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMtlAqgvtZ4 my response to every 'who's that trophy' :p

Who would have thought that little guy's evolution would become a Smash Bros. fighter?
And not only that, but Red seemingly won't return

Yeah, maybe im worried for nothing and Ganondorf makes his return in style :)

Small point of critique however, is that I do believe its a shame there is so much reused assets as opposed to melee-brawl: many returning characters still look quite the same. And the graphical quality (such as geometry) doesnt differ that much from Brawl upressed in dolphin-emulator aside from some tidbits here and there.
That being said, I am excited for the remaining characters to be revealed and I would love it if one of them is the Black Knight from Fire Emblem.

You really should look more at comparisons between Brawl and 4. The differences are far larger than between Melee and Brawl.

Not sure if it's safe to, but I feel pretty confident that Ridley will be playable. Yeah, the one we saw during the direct was certainly a stage hazard due to the size and never landing on the ground, but isn't there canonically more than one Ridley? I'm not huge on Metroid (at all, really), but that's enough to confirm that Sakurai's just continuing to troll everyone into thinking the exact opposite of what's to happen.

While much of my hope is dashed I do agree somewhat. The shadow was OTHER M Ridley for sure. The wings and spiked tail were a dead giveaway. So I can see a scenario where Super Metroid Ridley does become playable.

I think sakurai will keep red for a certain something in charizard's moveset.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that they will use Red and Gym Leader (or Kalos Trainer) for Final Smash Animations for Mega Evolution. They need someone to activate the Mega Evolutioon.

I decided to take a shot at creating a roster. The first random spot is for the chorus kids/Marshall, and the second one is the actual random space.

E2Sfd1v.png

I put Metal Mario on there, as Nintendo seems to have a weird fascination with him lately. In this roster Ganondorf has a sword, and Black Shadow gets his old moveset (With some tweaks).

Wow I forgot about Ghirahim. I would love it if he got in.

Mentioned before, but didn't see a GIF or WebM. DK has a roll attack now as his dash attack.

No they don't.

Rosalina 7/10, I like her but I'm not particularly a fan. Looks fun though
Little Mac 8/10, Not a fan but i really love how he plays, not excited about the "bad" recovery
Wii Fit Trainer 7/10, Love the craziness, need to play to evaluate more since she doesn't have much "character"
Villager 8/10, I would have preferred a known character from AC instead of a plain Villager, moveset looks fine though
Greninja 8/10, Altough my least favorite starter he's still pretty cool and i always love when they go with more obscure characters, clearly here to help 3DS sales
MegaMan 2/10, It is what it is, looks alright.

Sad panda that this guy is coming back w/ the same mechanic. Looks like it's more subdued and a little less annoying though. Even in the direct, the stage doesn't move *THAT* much, which is a good sign.

Sad that majora flips the stage and doesn't summon the moon :(

Happy that this guy is back, but I wonder what the difference between it and the fairy is. Which one heals more?

Interestingly enough, this Nintendo Direct kinda made me think that we might be getting a really big roster this time around (50 - 55 range). Seeing Sakurai dance around so many different "big figures" showing that he knows the hype/wants of the community, considering the new Gematsu leak and the idea that there might be characters that the leaker might not have knowledge of (I'm calling this the Rosalina Clause) puts a little thought in the back of my head that makes me "Believe.gif".

Pit's new moves.

Glide is gone, thankfully. And so is his old overpowered Up Special. Now he has the Power of Flight which seems to be a straight glide. I think it will work like Fox's Up Special. Probably doesn't hurt other characters. I can't tell if he is grabbing the stage from a far distance in that second clip of him using his Up Special.

New Up Tilt looks to be better than his old one. Side Smash looks to be the same except this time he doesn't split his bow into to two in order to use it which is interesting. Maybe some attacks may work differently when it is split?

Then we see the Upper Dash Arm which we now know has the ability to deflect projectiles like his Brawl Side Special.

Also, that Final Smash is crazy as hell. Looks like it will be really fun to use.

Then near the end of the Direct, they show this:
ibplkfijU5JGOM.gif

It is slowed down to 0.5x speed so it can be seen. Looks like a new forward air.

EDIT: Could also be a neutral air.

I love how much more lithe he is now. It also looks like Sakurai addressed his biggest problems coming from Brawl in his recovery being too nuts (the new Wings of Icarus look like a wonderful compromise) and his lack of KO blows (the tilts, forward Smash and the Upper Dash Arm look friggin' nuts).

No they don't.

That's awesome! Kind of baffled that he didn't have that from the get-go.

I wish they used DK and Diddy's proportions from the Retro Donkey Kong Country games. It's all really slight, but DK's forearms/hands being bigger with a shorter and chubby bottom half looked a lot a better.

People have probably already said this, but I guess the 3DS will have secret characters, while the Wii U will probably have them all unlocked since we'll know about them already.

Villager: 10/10. I wanted an Animal Crossing rep, I got an Animal Crossing rep, and he's filled to the brim with Animal Crossing fanservice. I am STOKED.
Mega Man: 10/10. Same as above, except with Mega Man. My most wanted 3rd party character.
Wii Fit Trainer: 8/10. I never wanted her personally, but she seems super cool and is a great rep for a deserving franchise. Sun Salutation seems a bit ooc, though.
Rosalina: 7/10. I like her as a character, though there were other Mario reps I wanted more, and her gimmick seems really neat. I can't wait to see her in high-level play.
Little Mac: 9/10. A few of his animations seem wonky, but he looks like a blast to play and I love him as a character.
Greninja: 8/10. Never expected him, but he looks fun as hell and I'm just happy to have a Pokemon newcomer at all - I wasn't expecting anything but veterans (and Mewtwo) this time around.

My guesses are Ice Climbers, Snake, Ike, Squirtle and Ivysaur not coming back.

Ice Climbers are basically confirmed. Look at this shot:

N3DS__SuperSmashBros_FieldSmash_Screen_06.jpg

The sun glasses polar bear from their game and Melee seems to be one of the enemies for Smash Run. So, I'd say that Ice Climbers both are in and will be starter characters.

No way is that happening. They'll still be locked on WiiU if for no other reason than to make people want to actually play the game.

For anyone who doesn't think the mega evos are final smashes, watch the end of the Greninja trailer again. They end with the two evos and Greninja's final smash, aka end with all three final smashes.

Rosalina: 9/10 I love her. The only thing I'm not fond of is her final smash. She should have one that uses the comet observatory.
Little Mac: 10/10 I've wanted him in since the first smash. He gets bonus points for being the Punch-Out! Wii design, and having Giga Mac as a final smash.
Villager: 6/10 I don't love this character, but I don't hate it either. Kinda disappointed that he/she seems so weak. Guess I'll have to get my hands on the game to know for sure.
Wii Fit Trainers: 7/10 I'm indifferent to them as characters but their move set seems great.
Mega Man: 10/10 He was a 9/10 after the E3 reveal (I'm a huge MM fan), but his FS pushed him up to 10/10.
Greninja: 7/10 for the same reasons as the Wii Fit Trainers.

'Aight. So we should expect the site to update with Ice Climbers sometime before E3.

I just realized my team in pokemon X is Charizard, Greninja, Lucario, Pikachu. I need to catch jigglypuff now, and my smash team is complete. Guess i'll need mewtwo for my 6th. Team smash!

Holy crap. I just realized this was my team too.

I wanted a "Smash" team so my team consisted of Pikachu, Charizard, Lucario, Jigglypuff, and Mewtwo. Greninja was part of it because he was my starter and I needed a water type and I didn't have Squirtle. Ivysaur wouldn't have fit.

I'm REALLY hoping this is the final Pokemon lineup too hahah

Mentioned before, but didn't see a GIF or WebM. DK has a roll attack now as his dash attack.

I will sort of miss the big boot but this has been a long time coming.
Should let you erupt out of it with a DKCR style roll jump, I mean it wont happen but it'd be fun as hell.

Still waiting on that new DK or Kirby stage reveal, the classic stages of Jungle Japes and Battleship Halberd weren't exactly the reveals I was hoping for.

Also what are the chances that Project M influenced this game?

On the subject of cuts, I'm tending toward thinking that there will be no cuts. However, if there is a cut, it will probably be Snake. After that, either Ness or Lucas, but I can see a maximum of two cuts, so no more.

Pokemon Trainer is obviously dead, but Squirtle may have a chance. Venusaur has none.

Rosalina 4/10. Eh she's alright I guess.
Little mac 8.5/10. Will be fun to try out.
Villager 7/10. He's cool. His item grab ability will be fun to abuse.
WFT 9.5/10. Her reveal was hilarious lol.
Greninja. 8/10. Nothing wrong with more ninjas.
Megaman 9/10. Great fanservice.

The only upcoming game releases before Smash 4 will come out that could correspond to veterans are Ice Climbers on NES Remix, and Wario on Mario Kart, right?

Well, unless Meta Knight is saved for Kirby Triple Deluxe's US release, but I doubt Sakurai would do that when he already did DeDeDe for the JP release.

Rosalina 7.5/10, I like her, she's going to be extremely difficult to master. Competitive players will call her overpowered if the IC don't come back.

Little Mac 9/10, I absolutely love his play style, his need to establish a big lead early on makes him a true boom-or-bust fighter.

Wii Fit Trainer 7/10, Looks good, I hope her taunts are as mocking as possible.

Villager 8/10, Excellent, obvious addition. His move set works well with Smash, though his inclusion casts a pall over Mii's odds.

Greninja 7/10, Great Pokemon addition, but Squirtle...
:(

MegaMan 6/10, Great for fan service, but he doesn't seem to be very fun to play against. That basic attack is going to get old quick.

Villager - 10/10
As one of Nintendo's biggest franchises, Animal Crossing was long overdue for a playable character, and Villager is the best character to rep the series.

Little Mac - 10/10
Another long overdue character. There's not much more to be said.

Mega Man - 10/10
A classic gaming icon, Mega Man is probably the single guest character most synonymous with Nintendo for me.

Rosalina & Luma - 9/10
Super Mario Galaxy was a big deal, and it's cool to see a character who utilizes mechanics from those games. I also love that Luma fights alongside Rosalina, introducing a unique new play style to the series.

Wii Fit Trainer - 8/10
While not a terribly "exciting" character, Wii Fit was a huge hit for Nintendo, and it deserves representation.

Greninja - 6/10
I'm sure he'll grow on me, but he's easily the least interesting/deserving newcomer revealed so far -- I really don't think X/Y needs representation beyond Mega Evolutions. Greninja just seems like a completely arbitrary Pokémon to include. Squirtle is my favorite Pokémon of all time, so I guess I'm just bummed that he's most likely gone.

Rosalina - 8.5/10 She seems really unique, but I need to see some strategies to actually tell if she'd be fun to play as.

Little Mac - 10/10 One of my most wanted characters. Moveset and play style seems really fun.

WFT - 8/10 I love how her moveset being based on stretches/exercises and the sun salutation thing is pretty neat.

Villager - 6/10 Looks OK, but I'm not really into the series and the moveset looks pretty meh imo.

Greninja - 9/10 Awesome Pokémon and I loved how his movement and moves looked in the trailer.

MegaMan - 9/10 The perfect third party character to add. Love how Sakurai is using a big variety of games for his moves.
