Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

Unrelated, but hilarious:

Link confirmed thot.

Let's talk about Pikmin & Olimar.

3 Pikmin is a welcome change and it allows for easier management. And making the Pikmin come in a certain order is a cherry on top. They haven't shown if you can get more of the same type Pikmin right? I wonder if you can. None of the POTDs have that.

The Flying Pikmin replacing Olimar's old recovery is a very good idea, but with the fact that if you have Pikmin with you and it makes you heavier means you are going to probably throw all Pikmin you have on yourself before you use the Up Special.

And it seems like there are no tether recoveries as the main recovery method. I wonder if it is removed all together.

And Olimar got some new jabs:

I wonder if the footage for the direct is what was used for the POTDs. Some of it matches with the POTDs.

Yeah after these changes, he pretty much became the veteran that I am most eager to play with again for the time being.

But you can get the same effect by just taking a lot of damage, right? So what if Lucario's already taken enough damage to be dealing maximum aura damage, and then he gets a Smash Ball, you're saying his Final Smash in that case would just be... to continue doing maximum damage?

Sounds wrong to me.
Maybe it is his final smash and he also goes invincible while in this state? I dunno, have we seen Mega Lucario get hit yet? Having Aura Storm as his final smash again would be really lame.

Eh, I'm not sure but it's my gut telling me that it will happens. They have no problem to do 4 other megaman models for final smash; and three Nook for Villager's final smash.

So is that a yes?

I'll take you up on that bet. Charizard will have Red appear to Mega evolve him, and I'll even take it one step farther, either Calem, Serena, or Korrina will appear to Mega evolve Lucario.

Done deal

It may be slow but...

Why did at the beginning of the direct... Sakurai said "I'm still alive"?
Was there a meme or something from this? or due to the arm injury?

Is that animation sped up? Mario looks like he's recovering super fast from that nair. (Edit: or is it just used way before the gif starts, and then autocancelled? Yeah, probably that.)

Not sure how I feel about the Pikmin now. New recovery is welcomed, but having a recovery trade off with all 3, plus having to pull more often is kinda ehh. Still great to know you'll consistently get whites/purples and be able to plan around them. I wonder if rocks will be incorporated in some way.

I feel that any roster leak rumor that hasn't also predicted Shiek, ZSS and Charizard becoming stand alone characters can be safely ignored.
...Why? It's not a full roster leak, only a handful of newcomers, like what happened before with Villager, Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, Little Mac, Mii, and Pac-Man. In that case, the former four turned out to be right, and we're still waiting on the latter two. Just because they don't list every single newcomer or state specific details like Sheik, Zero Suit Samus, and Charizard becoming their own characters doesn't mean that it's not true. They never said that those character aren't going to be separate, either, after all. They simply didn't mention them at all.

Yo!
We have our fire and water starters as stand alone characters. I think we'll get our grass starter as well. Glorious Chesnaught is sadly out as Chespin is a Pokeball so I think we'll get Sceptile since he's the only other bipedal grass starter.
I doubt that's going to happen. It would be nice to have Fire-, Water-, and Grass-type all represented, but we're already at four confirmed Pokémon, and if Jigglypuff and Mewtwo are back that'll make six. Any more than that would be too much, and we don't need two Pokémon newcomers (especially if we're getting Mewtwo, too).

Mega evolution could also add additional properties to the abilities. Does extremespeed always do damage? I only saw it hit during mega evolution.

What I'm gonna figure is that the Smash Ball will heal Lucario fully (or something) and give him max aura damage.

Needlessly convoluted explanation, when, statistically speaking, the simplest explanation is the correct one. Simplest explanation - his Final Smash is not Mega Evolution.

But then you have to take a lot of damage. The advantage to the final smash is that you get a maximum aura boost without getting to ridiculous percentages. There's presumably other advantages as well, but there doesn't have to be.

If the mega form activates when Lucario takes a lot of damage, it's purely a visual upgrade, which is kinda pointless, and is obviously activated differently from Charizard.

If the mega form activates in some other way, there's no reason not to just do that from the start, making the aura pointless.

Final Smash is the only way that works without making the aura mechanic completely pointless, has the same form of activation for both Lucario and Charizard, and matches up with the reveal at the end of the trailer with Greninja's final smash. It also matches up with X and Y where you need to use an item.

See, you still end up with a Final Smash that will most likely quite often be completely useless. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I don't think the Mega Evolution is Lucario's final smash, unless it actually does more than just max out Aura power. And if Mega Evolution isn't one pokemon's Final Smash, I'd conclude that it's not any pokemon's Final Smash.

We can agree to disagree though.

For anyone wondering about the "grave" in Smash Run:

You can spy it in the bottom left of the map of the area, covered by the translucent black background for the text:

It's possible that if you die during the 5 minutes, you'll respawn there, or maybe it's there for some other reason. There are a few other platforms throughout that seem interesting. Some of them might require collecting tons of powerups to get to.

Also, am I the only one who thinks this section of Palutena's Temple would make a fine stage by itself? Maybe make the bottom-most platform scroll from side to side or something or keep it as is.

How do you thank Charizards mega form is activated then? And only the worst players would get to see Mega Lucario in that case.

Your explanation is the more complex one, it assumed an unknown mechanic exists for Lucario and Charizard.

I still think that we are getting Red in Charizard's Final Smash.

If they're going to give a cameo to the trainers, it'd be when they use the Mega Evolution, which further suggests that they're final Smashes, since they're the only thing that can interrupt the match like that.

Sakurai even made the activation gesture in the video and we didn't see how it was activated in gameplay. So, they could give cameos to trainers during that sequence.

I'm assuming tethers as B moves were removed all together. Sheik's Side B is now her Grenade, Olimar lost his, and Zero Suit Samus has a new Up B involving her jet boots that Sakurai totally stole from Haloid.

I'm assuming the Black Charizard from the direct is Charizard's Mega Evolution? I've never actually seen it before.

Good point, it just seems like such a waste with Lucario, but you might be right.

You should have add Cynthia as well.

....Yeah, I thought of that right after he accepted. Oh well, too late to back out now.

It's his Mega evolution in Pokemon X. Charizard and Mewtwo are special because they have exclusive Mega evolutions depending on which version you are playing.

I don't really see how convoluted it is. Final Smashes that heal the user aren't unprecedented, and it'd be as simple as pumping the percentage down to zero and giving you full aura power for thirty seconds or something.

So it's almost conformed that the final boss theme from FE:A will be in! Hoorah, I was hoping for it to be in since the moment I heard it the first time. Best song in the game and one of the best final boss themes in any game ever. Battling to it will be so epic.

Yeah, sounding more and more reasonable. SmashGAF has a knack for making me doubt my gut instincts.

I honestly think it's the final smash, because it makes sense, especially in the context of the trailer. I can't think of any other mechanic that would trigger it, nor why they'd bother implementing it. It could do more than just max his aura. It could add modifiers to abilities, heal, or even increase defense (less knockback, like metal mario item, without the weight).

Edit:

Rock pikmin would be like bonsleys that throw farther, and your next 3+ pikmin pulls are all rock pikmin.

I think rock Pikmin are redundant. They would do the same things as Purple Pikmin but are just rock-shaped. There isn't a reason to include them.

lol I completely forgot Sheik's Side B can be used for that. Thank god they changed it, I found it to be useless. Yea, I think you're right.

And Jesus, that video is terrible.

Mega Charizard's clips have the dark background associated with Final Smashes, whereas Mega Lucario's have no such effects. I'm guessing Charizard's Mega form is his Final Smash whereas Lucario's is simply a result of getting max aura (i.e. sucking).

Also, does anyone know the song played during the item reveal? Is it an original piece?

I find it quite possible since it's kinda weird to have 2 starters when they're typically in a set of 3. Mewtwo's a vet, so I wouldn't count him out. As for Pokemon representation though, character slots don't exist. That's just a fan theory. Mario technically has 7 even though Sakurai split them up.

Blasphemous could still happen.

Anyone think olimar's final smash might be these guys:

I can see it happening. The rock Pikmin could rain down from above, or maybe there'll be a "wave" of them roll in from a random side of the stage, or the FS will make Cpt. Olimar go uber and have him only toss around rock Pikmin while being carried by a swarm of winged Pikmin =)

I wonder what the FE:A Wii U stage is going to be?

Please be Grima. Please be Grima. I need to have a Marth vs. Chrom match played to Id ~ Purpose.
