Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

So I got the
King's Ring
and I finally opened the door in the
Forest of Fallen Giants
. I see the tree giant thing is twinkling, how do I interact with it?

Still seems to be a thing, just with a bigger range. Not sure if SL is even calculated; it doesn't seem to, for NG at least.

It would seem that SL isn't considered in NG. I was SL 60 helping out people and ended up helping someone who was, like, SL 20-30 who ended up sending me some messages asking questions and stuff.

I have yet to start my NG+, I hear it's an invasion storm, yes?

I raged enough with ancient dragon, and rat authority. Ugg worse then those?

Yeah RRA was the worst thing I faced if only because having to look at his uglyass mug everytime I failed was just vile. For me, I used the pyro spell that shoots a timed trap fire orb that explodes on proximity to an enemy. Really really helpful for the little guys. Facing RRA alone, having a good 100 block shield was nice but at the end of the day rolling is what is going to give you an opening to attack. A lot of people kept going on about him being the easiest thing in the world and Sif being harder which is funny because Sif was easy to me but whatever it's all relative

Not even close. I beat him my first try by running around and whacking him when I had an opening.

Even when he split it was mostly just running around and looking for an opening. His attacks are very predictable.

AD on the other hand can fuck right off.

EDIT: I was dual-wielding too.

As a pure melee myself, looking back and knowing what I now know, I'd rather fight the Ancient Dragon than the Dark Lurker

I'm the opposite. AD may be straightforward when you figure out your game plan, but it's still a long and boring fight that will kill you in an instant. DL is way more fun.

Any good shield suggestions? I'm a Str/Faith build, never upgraded a single shield yet.

Also, what is worth upgrading with twinkling titanite?

What is your VIT, and what kind of equip weight are you going for? The Royal Kite Shield is a medium shield with 100% physical reduction that you can access relatively early, though you'll find better shields later.

I saved my twinkling titanite for a long time because I wasn't sure how much there would be. I ended up using it on (spoiler-y shield)
Havel's Greatshield
and then throwing the rest into a few armor pieces. The shield was a great investment. I'm not sure how much I got out of the armor. The thing is that this shield had easily defined advantages over any other shield I might have used. With armor, I could always get the benefits of upgrading by rejiggering equip weight and wearing something heavier. I'm not sorry I invested the twinkling titanite where I did (it is my final armor, after all), but I guess I'd recommend focusing on other equipment first.

For small shields, Royal Kite is pretty good. For greatshields, my str tank went with the Tower Shield for a large part of the game, occasionally swapping it with the Old Knight Greatshield in poisonous/cursing areas (such as vs the lion warriors in Shaded Ruins), and the Gyrm Greatshield against bosses like those in the Iron Keep or vs the A
ncient
D
ragon
since it has 100% fireblock. I also have the Rebel Greatshield on hand to block magic and dark attacks such as in S
hrine
of A
mana
and the D
arklurker
. For the most part, the Tower Shield is pretty suitable however.

Is it just me or new game is way more empty than before.

Took me a long while to summon two guys for the Ruin Sentinels, and nobody was putting their sign in the bonfire like before.

Quick question about Lucatiel:

I think I finished her path (talked about remembering her name by Aldia's Keep) without summoning her at all.

Now if I go back to the Rotten bonfire and burn an Ascetic, her summon sign will be there. I can now beat the boss three times with her to meet her requirements, but am I correct in thinking that I'm SOL for getting her gear since I won't be able to talk to her after the requirements are met?

I can't believe this crazy dragon fight. I was doing everything so well. Had him to like 10% health, and I make one dumb mistake and roll instead of starting a run at the split second the fight requires and boom im dead. And then I get instawiped on my next 5 tries.

I believe that is correct.

It's a terrible fight. What's worse, I don't think From can fix it by nerfing his breath: he would still be boring.

Yeah, you have to do the 3 of 4 summons with her alive before speaking to her at the final destination (Aldia's) - but what about using a bonfire ascetic on Aldia's Keep as well?

They even started doing it in DS1 recently, saw one with a couple of upvotes near the Oolacile Township bonfire recently.

In DS, unless you have the "Guidance" miracle active, all message ratings will appear positive.

Not sure if it's the same in DS2.

Using Dark Old Knight Halberd +10 on my hex/spellsword. I like it, but I assumed it would have much better durability than the Dark Washing Pole I was using, and it's just as frail. God damnit.

Should be getting
Moonlight Greatsword
next time I speak to
Benhart
. I did the Mirror Knight (NG+) and Prowling Mangus (NG++ and NG+++ with ascetics) fights with him surviving so that should be enough right?

The input lag in this game sometimes is absolutely disgusting. Click to change weapons and you see the icon flash and hear the sound but nothing happens. Or holding down sprint with a full stamina bar and it takes a few seconds before the character actually runs

I've died more times from laggy controls than anything else

Maybe change some TV settings? I haven't had these problems.

You get the Bluemoon Greatsword from him, aka the Fake Moonlight Greatsword. Lol.

You have to beat Freja on NG++ and get the soul she gives to make the MLGS.

I got platinum on the game hooray!

Doing co-op playthroughs will keep the game alive for me at the very least. My only real complaint about the game is that I really really wish the Blue Sentinel/Brotherhood of Blood ranks were easier to get. Blue Sentinel covenant in particular was implemented so poorly.

The smelter demon is the worst.... I'm going to leave him until much later in the game when I can actually cause some hurt on him. Just like I did with those pansy gargoyles. Shaded woods is a great area so far!

Does anyone happen to know why the official strategy guide seems to be discounted? It's a hardcover book, packed with information and relatively great quality. What is it that caused the book to go on sale for like $23 from an original price of $36?

I've used the book, and it's really quite good.

I think for the most part it's just Amazon being Amazon and discounting because they can. GameStop still sells it for $34.99, and I'd imagine other physical retail outlets do as well.

Messing around in Dark Souls 1 PC I'm trying to see how I would like the analog stick clicking for jumping and it seems like it would be kinda weird but i can see it's usefulness. Did you guys switch back to the old way or adapt to the new one?

new jumping is way better. i never liked the old way. imprecise, imo.

It's getting nerfed in the balance batch. I haven't played since last weekend, so I'm not sure how bad.

patch doesn't come out until April 11 for the US so it's still great!

The ones placed right next to a bonfire are annoying as fuck too.

As I found out while playing DSII, people rate these messages more than most other messages that are actually helpful. Warn people about a trap chest? No fucks given. Put a message two feet away from the bonfire telling people there's a bonfire? People upvote the shit out of that.

I wonder how bad pyromancy will be hit by the changes. It's fun in pve but it is probably too powerful. But I'm dumping lot of points into caster stats right now so I'll probably still have plenty of fun with it and the other magic.

I think my fashion souls tastes have finally changed. After a few hundred hours between the two games, I think I'm finally tired of looking at Havel's set. Currently using Syan's set and I really like the change of scenery. Also not having to sweat staying below 70% equip is nice too.

I can't summon Lucatiel anymore. We killed the Sentry, and I've talked to her everywhere, but, see won't appear in the Gulch and I can't summon her for the Rotten. She's still in the Bastille Tower, and repeats the same thing. What did I do wrong? I want that achievement and it's pissing me off.

Beat NG again, this time on my str/fai character. Made a point of fighting the final boss in a pure melee style and while it's not a truly difficult fight, I did find it one where I had to pay attention at all times to my position in the room and what she was up to. I also died four times to exactly the same mistake (rolling too early against a second swing in a combo) and learned from my mistakes. This time I found it a lot of fun.

I enjoyed this play through as much as my first and in some respects more so, especially as I did a ton of co-op as a sun bro and then solo'ed most of the bosses with what I had learned. I also finished out almost all of the optional fights and found fairly substantial areas in the gutter and shrine that I missed entirely on my first game.

Circumstances demand that I take a couple days off from the game but I'm eager to start in on NG+. Going to do a bit of soul farming first to stock up on endgame materials, mainly chunks, and then go for it.
