Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

Come on, it was pretty damn obvious it was Greninja from the minute you saw him charging the shuriken. I recognized him immediately and I haven't even played Pokemon X/Y.

What? Not at all, we saw tiny glimpses and didn't even see silhouette. All we saw was a sphere coming together (and watching it first time you can barely tell it's made out of water). It was intentionally vague.

Oh, you! ච˰ච

Seriously, Alphonso's "Leave it to me!" routine is pure comedy gold waiting to be mined.

I'd say Zebesians would make some interesting maze enemies, but for characters, Ridley's the only one that's a staple of the franchise.

So, about 2 weeks have passed since this thread was created, and we're already at almost 13k posts, and it's about 3/4 of the post amount we'll need before having to start a new one. :P

Cross posting about my thoughts on characters:

Ridley & Palutena - They're starting to look more likely, but I can't help but think Sakurai is trolling us with at least one of them. Ridley doesn't seem the type to fit in Smash, and we already have a dragon in Charizard. Palutena is great too, but I think Pit works fine as the solo representative, and there are more deserving characters, IMO.
Totally not saying this because I have a bet

Tiki & Fi - Don't see it happening if Chrom is coming. Ganondorf probably won't be replaced, since he's part of the Triforce with Link and Zelda.

Dixie & K.Rool - Also not likely. What's there to separate Dixie from Diddy, other than her hair flip? Not much, IMO. She could have a decently diverse moveset, but I don't feel there's depth of character and popularity to warrant an addition. K. Rool, doesn't sound very viable either. While he's similar to Dedede in that they're both big bads, he hasn't been in a game in how long? He could be in, but again, there are more deserving people.

Chorus Men and Squirtle, those are the one's I'd like to bring back. Rhythm Heaven is a very popular series, and they could use all kinds of moves from the games to flesh out his moveset. Squirtle was just a blast to play, and he's cute as all hell.

Just like how Little Mac only uses his gloves/punches, Dixie has the potential to use her hair for nearly everything. Then there is the fact she appeared in 3/5 mainline DKC games as a playable character and her reappearance in DKTF, she is relevant and an important DK character.

If depth of character was the most important criteria, then most characters wouldn't even be in the game.

I wonder what Eevee would do. I don't think it'll just do tackle. Maybe it will evolve.

It's not like they had to put an XY rep there. They do have some PokeBall Pokemon.

Every Smash had at least a rep from the recent gen though.

The more I think about it the more I think the customisable movesets are the biggest game changer we've heard about so far, it completely changes how matchups are going to work in the competitive scene if they're going to be balanced around being side grades with upsides and down sides rather than some being better than others, you wouldn't have to stop using your favourite character just because he matches up badly to your opponent anymore.

You're a slow heavy character facing a combo heavy character? Replace one of your attacks with a weaker version that has super armour so you have more of a chance of breaking it up.

You're playing as someone with a projectile reflector against someone who has no projectiles? Change it to an attack that doesn't reflect at all but does a bit of damage and hitstun so you can mix it up with some different combos.

It sounds like it could be, by far, one of the best additions to the series if they do it right, which is why it's such a shame I haven't really seen it be discussed much.

Not only this, but it gives more chances for fan service. You don't like Mario's fireballs? Change them to ice balls. Getting tired of Samus' vanilla charge shot? How about the wave beam, which can pierce multiple foes? The list goes on and on and since it is a separate mode, it doesn't HAVE to be competitively balanced (though it would be icing on the cake)

So Brawl had 16 newcomers. This so far has 6 if we don't count the characters that are now not part of another character or a transformation. (Sheik/ZSS/Charizard.)

I don't know how true this is but found this thread on r/smashbros and I thought it pointed out something really interesting.

If you noticed, whenever a character is in hitstun now, there will be a cloud trail behind them. This is new to smash, as in previous games cloud trails only appeared when you hit someone with a very strong attack and sent them flying.

Here's another extremely clear example with Mario. As soon as he regains his composure he is able to airdodge, the Brawl airdodge is back, yes, but hitstun has taken a wild change, and will actually allow for combos this time around(although it doesn't seem to be as unforgiving as Melee's).

Thread in question which also uses the Sonic combo as the main example

I can't be bothered to dig through the other combos we've seen in trailers but if smoke trails appear almost every time you're launched into the air going into hitstun and end right as you go into tumble then the connection is clearly there. The Mario clip is a pretty clear cut example of it.

Holy crap, 3/4 realy puts in perspective

Well, more like 2.6/4, but I still think this thread is being run through the quickest out of all the smash OTs so far.

So the ext thread's OT is going to be "For Fun, For Glory", right?

Noooooooo! Eevee is the best, don't make it evolve. It can use tackle and be all cute.
Every Smash had at least a rep from the recent gen though.
Wow, that has never occurred to me. Fair point then.

I swear I noticed that from the first time gameplay was shown lol. I just thought that everyone else noticed that as well.

The color trails appears when launched and you go in a straight line. Mentioning that just in case nobody noticed that as well.

EDIT: But I never thought the air part was hitstun though.

Seems as though here, when they fly from the explosion, their momentum slows as soon as the smoke trails die down.

YES. YES. YES.

That's interesting. I haven't really noticed that. Hmm, I don't think it's good idea to analyzing for it right now since they said that the game are subject to be changed. I wouldn't be surprised that they could adult the battle psychic for Wii U after they released 3DS.

Yeah, I'm glad that they are going for balance of pokemon each generation ever since. It's a great feeling to see some pokemon that you like.

So question!
What's the song that plays during Zelda old character presentation?
I can figure it out... I know it's an arrangement but...
Could someone help me?

The smoke trails technically aren't new as they only appeared (as said in the quote) in previous games when you hit a character really hard at high %s. It seems now that it's actually being tied to hitstun duration or to indicate a character is in hitstun. It's basically another visual indicator for the player. As soon as the hitstun ends, the smoke trail ends and tumble starts.

It's practically confirming hitstun is there and that you can only cancel the tumble state with air dodges (which you couldn't in Melee, you had to wiggle the stick first before you could perform any other action besides jumping). However, it's not a bad thing if that's the case, I could deal with it.

I'm not gonna get happy quite yet but this practically shows that hitstun can't be canceled out via an air dodge or any moves. Hopefully it doesn't change.

Basically, it's a really good and reassuring sign.

So the Ridley tidbit. Part of him is shown for a fraction of a second. The color is grey. Regular Ridley ain't grey. The entirety of regular Ridley is Purple. It ain't the tail. Too big for the tail piece. And it is aligned with the shadow of the left wing. And off hue for Other M Ridley.

My verdict? It has to be Meta Ridley or it's a rather hard to place tail of Other M Ridley.

I am in denial and only Sakurai can prove me right or wrong. Grump grump.

The cycle continues.

----------------

Or it's a fucking Skarmory.

It's Other M Ridley

The tail shape is a 1-for-1 match. (It's yellow ingame)

In the case that Ridley is a playable character I sincerely hope they take no cues from that design other than it looking muscular. The concept art version at least looks much less ugly than that... thing from the game itself.

I'm excited for sheik honestly, I hated that she was tied to zelda and I hated that she had that stupid shitty chain move. Everything was fixed! Can't wait for this game man. Damn I'm hyped. I found out GameStop has them for pre-order and rushed down their to put it down on both. Now to play the waiting game. I just hope there is a midnight release!

EDIT: Speaking of fixes, how come they hardly made any progress in the online features? No hosting rooms are anything, just thrown into random battles.

In regards to the 2 versions if I am understanding this correctly the 3DS version will have less music then the Wii U version since it seems each stage is limited to 2 music tracks(3DS Version)?

If there isn't a physical midnight release, this will be the first full 3DS game I download at launch.

Yes, that seems to be the case. I guess Nintendo didn't want to go with the largest cartridge in order to save costs.

That is probably correct, depending on how many stages each version has. The Wii U has a variety of different tracks to choose from for each stage.
