Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

Yeah when he was just a silhouette I was hoping it was Mewtwo, I don't think that's a crazy thing to think. It was pretty clear once you saw he was working with water, though, that it wasn't him.

I could do one massive update.

I see your point though you seem to be thinking that Nintendo would do it like other companies. The very thought of DLC was said to be very un-Nintendo. Now they do it as they see fit, and it's for a fair price. Well other than New Super Mario Bros 2, but they take baby steps with everything.

Hell, they could do something like the newest Killer Instinct and have a free character per week so you could try them all out. First week that it's released though everyone is tryable for a trial so you can use who you want and if you like just get who you want.

There's so many ways to do it without being unfair to consumers. I'd trust them with that.

DLC is un-Nintendo?

Even though Greninja's awesome, it's sad thinking of what could've been if Chesnaught or Delphox was the popular starter instead. Chesnaught in particular would have been exciting with its focus on tanking hits. Think Bowser, but with a complete focus on armored moves and presumably a long-range projectile in Seed Bomb.

Just want to say how STOKED I am for Greninja. I raised two of them in Pokémon XY (including a Protean specimen with perfect IVs, thanks to the help of my fellow Gaffers), and not only is he one of the most versatile and fun Pokémon to use in XY (hence why something like one in five teams use him), he's just so COOL.

I love his color scheme -- navy blue and crème, with a dash of azure and a swirl of pink. He has a distinct silhouette with the Shinboi-style "tongue scarf," the squatting stance, bulky thighs, angular head, and splayed fingers and toes. And I love the way he can shape water into shurikens and swords. They walk that fine line between "badass" and "cute" (see the waterspout taunt and ninja pose he strikes up on the pole in the trailer). So hyped!!
One thing I love about Greninja is how close its proportions are to a real tree frog.

Who are we most and least excited to play as?

My most excited is Little Mac. His combos look satisfying and he's very techincal.

My least is Mega Man, he just seems so boring to use.

The exact opposite! Weird.

I've always been bored by fighters that look like they have fewer attacks. I'm never going to be a tournament level player, I play for the flashy animations as much as anything else so Little Mac seems dull as heck! He just throws a bunch of different punches and that's it! Same reason I never liked Snake.

Mega Man though. *Shiver* (with excitement)

I like Greninja, there's just other Pokemon I'd rather get in and he seems like a bit of an odd choice for the only gen 6 rep. However I love water starters and Greninja is one of my more liked out of those.

In general his playstyle seems less unique than most of the other newcommers though.

You know, if they wanted Chesnaught to be popular, they should have made him look cool.. That final animation is horrendous. I was hoping for a badass looking hedgehog, but instead I have some freak of nature to look at.

Gonna be a minority here I'm sure, but I'm kind of glad that so far he appears to be pretty standard. I was starting to get worried that we were going the Brawl route where almost every newcomer had to have some super unique gimmick that ultimately bogged them down.

Even if he just ends up effectively being Speedy GonLucario sans aura, that's good enough for me.

Haha, I think Mac looks really flashy and fun for the exact reason you think he's boring. I can't wait to duck and weave and punch people with him.

Way more excited to play as Little Mac than Megaman.

I'm definitely most excited to sink my teeth into Greninja.

I'm least excited to play as Rosalina. I think her moveset is awesome, but I don't like using puppet characters.

Best gen 6 starter...favoritism wise.

I don't recall the OoX games ever saying the Triforce went with Link. The intros show it being in a castle and warping him to his destination. I mean the fact that he will have to go back to said castle again to do the second adventure (depending on the order you do it in) and the Triforce is still there means I assume it stays there for the duration of both games. In essence he never actually owns the Triforce. At most he has a mark on his hand to say he is the hero, but he never needs the essence of courage to be courageous. And we can't rewrite the stories here, Ganon in aLttP is the owner of the full Triforce thus technically in the most powerful state he has ever been in. Big difference between it being in a castle in a different land who knows how many miles away and it being in the back room of your base which for all we know only appeared there with the death of Ganon.
I never said the triforce traveled with Link, but the circumstances of Link's relationship with the triforce in OoX and LA was the same as Ganon's in ALttP. He had already made his wish (Ganon's gave him control of the Sacred Realm and Link's returned the world to the way it was before Ganon's scheme) and the triforce was chilling outside his body. If you still own the thing and benefit from its powers after that I don't see how we can place arbitrary range limits on the most powerful artifact in the universe.

And what about the other Links that didn't have the triforce? Skyward Sword Link took down the origin of all evil in the universe. Hell, you could say OG Link didn't need the triforce or the master sword to take down Ganon.

:( I want Chesnaught in so bad. He's my second favorite non-legendary Pokemon :/

Yeah, it's cool to me how different types of characters resonate with different people. I usually go for emotional attachment and cuteness/flashiness. Ness and Lucas were my mains in Brawl just because I'm so in love with the Mother series (death to Porky
actually, I guess his fate at the end of Mother 3 is worse than death, so we'll go with that.
)... but my brother always loved Luigi and Game 'n' Watch and I have friends who love Snake, Kirby, Metaknight, Dedede, Peach, all characters I'd never touch in a million years.

There's something there for everyone, and I think that's one of the things that's so cool about Smash as opposed to a lot of other fighting games.

Most would be palutena...but out of the confirmed ones....Hmm...Touch choice as they all look fun. Least excited would be Rosalina since she seems complex.

Mii revealed on June 6? (Tomodachi Life)

OH!!! mii revealed on june 6 (tomodachi life release) cool :P

EDIT: ahahahaha the comment over mine. Almost at the same time, with almost the same words haha...

EDIT: kurtofan, i saw your comment on the tomodachi life thread and i thought "thats a great idea, but why is he saying it in this thread??" but you thought the same fast.

sorry for almost stealing your comment

Wouldn't make sense E3 would be just a bunch of days away, they would show Mii there.
Who are we most and least excited to play as?

Ridley.

Between the ones announced Little Mac. All the others look cool too though.

Out of the three Pokemon that Trainer had, I used Ivysaur the most. Charizard looks pretty good though, and man, that amazing range on Marth's fair. This game is going to be fantastic.

We should also really do a 3DS tournament this Summer/Fall.

Sign me up for this shit. I mean to get very involved w/ you guys online in Smash 4.

I just really hope beyond hope that Ike makes it because it would be a SERIOUS shame to not get to properly own you guys w/ him online w/ solid netcode.

So down for a 3DS tournament!

a "right" way of doing dlc doesnt exist. (i know that i am kind of alone here)
I am 100% with you.

If you want to add content, either delay the game or save the work hours/budget for the sequel. If you release it as DLC, it will never count for anything to me.
Who are we most and least excited to play as?
Most excited for Little Mac. Looks fast and great. Mega Man second probably. All the newcomers are pretty exciting so far though.

Least excited for Yoshi. I have always hated trying to play as the character.

I'm most excited for Little Mac and Rosalina. They're pretty much everything I love in fighting games, one's super fast, has dodge moves, and a counter, and one's a puppet master. Man, I love that SSB4 is going all the way and having variety in playstyles.
Am hype for Greninja and ZSS as well, alongside my boy Marth.

Speaking of which, who here would be for Nintendo upgrading this core game throughout the lifetime of the Wii U and 3DS?

I don't want to say like Capcom does with SSFIV, butttttttttt kinda like Capcom does with SSFIV. Of course I'm talking about content. Not the nickel and diming that they do. So don't let that throw you off the idea. They shouldn't keep making new versions of the game and splitting up the fanbase, but continue contributing to what they have. I can understand maybe paying a few bucks for a roster expansion, and I wouldn't mind it as long as they do it like Neatherrealm does. You just won't be able to use the new guys unless you buy them.

Though in my fantasy world it would all be free, Nintendo is a company and new characters cost money and resources, so free isn't always the best option.

Thoughts? Thots?

I can see them using DLC to bring in new stages and modes, but not characters. Characters take too much effort to make + there'd be a problem of maintaining balance whilst adding new characters to the roster.

Also there's a certain allure to the smash bros roster of any installment that would probably be disrupted by the possibility of characters being added at any time and take away from the integrity of the process

I love that final animation; has some real weight to it.

I do think they should have switched the color schemes for normal and shiny Chesnaught.

Excited for Little Mac myself. He looks to be a very good power character. On the ground anyway. I wonder if he takes double the damage in midair.

I'm now pumped by this 3DS tourney idea.

It'd be a SmashGAF tourney, live streamed for the spectators..

Okay, if this is a go, who's organising this? I'm more than happy to if the original dude who thought of this doesn't want to.

Yeah, I think a tournament is a given. I'd sign up for it.

If the online holds up for playing across the Atlantic I'd be down for a tourney, hell, beating you guys at smash bros is 90% of the reason I signed up for a NeoGAF account.

As for the Balancing aspect, the game would probably just be re-balanced. Namco is most likely helping out with this, and they're no slouch with balancing patches.

I wouldn't say so much as characters randomly being added so much as a group of them being added like 1-2 years after release.

Although, I'd LOVE if they did what Namco did with Tekken Tag Tournament 2, and gave you the extra characters free. iirc, the only paid dlc in that was music.

It's a really tough choice, but I'm most looking forward to using Greninja out of all the newcomers. He just looks like my kind of fighter.

And as much as I love Little Mac, his strict ground game has me a bit worried that he can be easily countered with projectiles and aerial attacks, therefore he's my least excited to use.

I don't know about Mewtwo, are they really going to waste another trailer on the Pokemon franchise? It was in their best interest to just put them all in one trailer. Jigglypuff doesn't need one, but Mewtwo most likely did.

Pikachu, Ness, Lucas, Marth etc... seem to make the transition just fine. If amything rpg characters are much easier to adapt as they have numerous attacks compared to mario, who basically jumps, wolf and falco who fly in arwings, zelda who you typically only see assist in one fight per game at best etc...

Pikachu turned out OK, but that's because he is so heavily based on the anime, not really the RPG per se.

Ness and Lucas are fun to play as, but if you have played the games you would know that they don't really represent the characters very well at all. Same with Marth and Ike. Aside from Parry, Aether, and Marth's final smash, all of the attacks are very generic.

It's fine, they're still cool characters, but it's kind of hard to dispute that turn based RPGs by nature give less to work with than realtime action series, and in general more poorly represent the gameplay of their games.

fake edit: "Mario just jumps" - lol OK.
