Just showed my 6 year old nephew the direct.

He was going to main rosalina, but now he is going to main greninja. He thinks he can beat me with him.

"Im gonna disappear all over the place and beat you. Im serious."

How cute.

Be sure to crush his hopes and dreams in the most glorious way possible. Pick fox, Final Destination, no items.

I meant I don't know what IRC is in general... never really understood it.

Eh, it's not that hard, it's rather easy to understand the basics
I still don't know how to open a new window to speak to one person only :/

Edit: 57 people right now? Holy shit, this tourny could be huge

Ha, ok. Is it required since it'll be the easiest way to communicate during the tourney? Or would just being on GAF at the time be sufficient? I guess this is exactly the kind of thing that it's way too far out to be discussing right now...

And yeah, 57 people have expressed interest in the last hour or so, provided I didn't miss anyone since I took over for SuperSah... but who knows what will happen between now and then!

I wonder how recorded matches work. Are they put into your pictures/video's folder or are they put in some kind of miiverse directory?

Well required? I don't think so, it's just easier than exchanging PMs so that both parties can talk to each other in real time and confirm when they are ready

IMO, if you're going to run a tournament you should have simple rules. No items for simplicity sake and to reduce RNG -- possibly only 2-3 stages that we know are going to be fine (in this case, Battlefield, FD, and Smashville). You then have the typical counter-pick system in place (winner bans stage, loser chooses stage, winner picks character, loser picks character in that order) even though it's three stages in play. Dave's Stupid Rule or whatever wouldn't be necessary for a stage list this small.

Just my two cents.

The netcode could be kinda awful though so I'm not even sure setting up a tournament this early is warranted.

You expect a boss character on a stage to constantly be flying around at high speeds? Even in the 2 metroid games there had to be time for Ridley to sit there idle for you to get some attacks in. Now that he is on a stage where there is tons of shit going on, Pokeballs and assist tophies running around, you expect the boss AI to be godly like in a cut-scene? We also have to keep this at 60fps.

I knew this a hard thing to convey with words but the animation seems indicative of an actual person using a joystick to control him, then suddenly letting go of said joystick, instead of the animations already being programmed to smoothly start and stop. Get me?

Seems like people are pretty divided. Maybe what will end up happening is two separate tournaments? One For The Glory and one For The Fun?

I'd be in for fun.

Tournament rules:
Balloon Fight stage, Villager only, Up B all the time.

Well theprodigy is eliminated from the getgo

If NSMB2 and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team are any indication, it'll release in July in Japan and maybe Europe and August in America. Hopefully NOA realizes how important a worldwide release is but I'm not getting my hopes up ;(

The only things I have seen are directed at nintendo heritage which should be moot after his appearance in Brawl.

I realise this is kind of a weak argument (and I'd actually love for Snake to return) but I feel like he's so popular that if he was returning he'd have been shown off by now.
"Snake Returns to Smash" would be something to get the internet talking about for a while.

Of course that might be planned for E3, I'm just speculating.

Yeah it does seem weird to hold off on a third party character.
Only thing I can think of in that regard is they something is planned for E3 snake popping out of a box at the last minute would work for his reveal if coupled with "Kept you waiting huh?"

The only thing when it comes to Snake is I can't see any concrete evidence that absolutely puts him in the cut list yet.

I thought they would realize worldwide releases are important for big titles. It kinda worked for Pokemon. Let's do it for smash, and Mario kart too!

Mario Kart 8 isn't a world wide release, but it's very close together.

May 29th in Japan, May 30th in North America and Europe, and May 31st in Australia.
