Pretty much. I think people really fail to realize that Sakurai and Sora have the full hands of Namco on their side. As you can see, development has sped by at an awesome rate and a lot of content is being packed in. Its not hard to imagine that this iteration of Smash will be a packed roster of characters. If Brawl had 39, I have no problems picturing 50+ roster for these titles.

Hmmm, I just analyzed this a good bit and I think you may be right about Ridley reacting to a hit. Yellow devil reacts but just staticly shakes. Ridley, if he's being hit, looks to be reacting like a playable character and could be falling from the air as the scene changes. Hmmmm.

I think it mainly has to do with the continuity of the already established movesets and it's why changes to characters tend to be incremental. You don't want to rock the boat too much when it comes to people's favorites characters and unfortunately those to get the real short end like Ganondorf, may never be all they could/should be. Here's hoping though.

On the bright side, Link now has his jumping slash attack as a dash and DK finally has his DKC roll as a dash. This issue could be something finally addressed with customizable movesets though, depending how in depth the team went with it. Samus could have her ice, plasma, wave beams, Mario could throw hammers or ice balls, OOOH: just realized Bowser could finally breath fireballs and fucking Ike could get his sword projectile. Jesus , this customization feature could be enormous on the fan service

Lower your expectations, seriously. This is Sakurai. Remember the stage builder? It was half-baked. This custom move set thing we barely know anything about, we were only shown a few possible examples. For all you know it could just be a selection of different options for each special move -- nothing that you customize yourself and can "make".

This post really reminds me of what I thought the stage builder was gonna be like pre-release when it turned out to be nothing like what I wanted.

The stage builder wasn't the only thing in Brawl that was half-baked, so...
 
Ugh, way too early to be scheduling a tournament, and thread should be in the community forum anyway. If you want to do it though, the best way is to actually have two tournaments.

Launch Day Tournament with: All stages open, all items on, no character restrictions. This will do two things, allow for a day 1 (or wait until the weekend if it's released on a Tuesday) tourney, and let people get experience with characters, items and stages, so that rules for the real tourney later can be established.

Real Tournament: 2-4 weeks after launch, with restrictions based on results and player input from first tourney. Could be 2v2 tourney as well.

I'd gladly be in for both.

As for tournament rules, I believe we should try to be conservative since we would not know much about how the game plays or know much about the stages.

4 Stocks (Brawl was 4 stocks in the beginning, too)
8:00 minute time limit
No items
FD, Battlefield, and Smashville legal only (tentative)
Other standard tournament rules, such as counterpicking (winner bans stage, loser picks counterpick, winner chooses character before loser) and Dave's Stupid Rule (can't counterpick to same stage you won on in a previous round)

I think that should be satisfactory to everyone, although with such a small stage list the last point may be unnecessary.

All I'm saying is this will be an online tournament for a game none of us are familiar with, so why the no items, fox only. FD mentality already? I think by that point, we will know a bit about items and which are super unfair or not and which stages will be like the halberds of Smash 4, so maybe this should be a little friendlier? Lots of casuals and competitive people will be playing. Jussayin

It'll need a meticulous preparation x)
That's why I hope there will be user made communities like MK7, I just want to hop in and have fun with GAFer.
I want to join the tourney but without release date it's hard to know if I'll be able to join or not >.<

And yeah, it's weird from what I've read that people aren't as receptive to this as I'd like. I've heard "purist" thrown around some. To me, this seems amazing, and it should even be at tournaments.

Isn't it similar to choosing the special you want for a fight in SFIV?
