Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

newcomers ranking for excitehype

1. Little Mac
2. Greninja
3. Rosalina
4. Mega Man
5. Villager
6. Wii Fit Trainer

novel playstyles are fun, little Mac and greninja looks like beasts while rosalina seems very unique

Looks like they put some thought into it though, and the platforms aren't all randomly floating in space, so that's nice.
The platforms still seem haphazardly placed to me, and elements like the spring, spiked ball, and spikes just look really lazily edited in. It seems like New Pork in that it's just a bunch of platforms floating in front of a pretty background. At least you can distinguish between the two now.

Neither seem to mesh together the aesthetic and the platforms remotely as good as Temple did for the super-large stages.

you're creating a tournament for an unfinished game with no set release dates for various regions

Maybe it's just me, but I see this more as a "Gauging interest" for an eventual smash 3DS tournament. I highly doubt everyone listed will sign up for the actual tournament.

So after the direct the other day rank the newcomers in terms of most excited to least excited

1. Little Mac
2. Villager
3. Wii Fit Trainer
4. Rosalina
5. Mega Man
6. Greninja

I'm excited to try all of them, but if there has to be an order this would be it. Punch-Out is my favorite NES game so I'm naturally excited for Mac. I'm also a big Animal Crossing fan, so Villager will be great (his moves seem to be hilarious too).

R.I.P. Wolf

:(

Maybe Wolf just had a moveset adjustment to further differentiate him from Fox?

what sort of wolf-like recoveries can my main man learn

Which stage of grief are you on? Cuz you should hale easy be grieving.

1 more down.

Bargaining

You know, if they wanted Chesnaught to be popular, they should have made him look cool.. That final animation is horrendous. I was hoping for a badass looking hedgehog, but instead I have some freak of nature to look at.

He's already perfect <3

Doesn't really mean much honestly. Sonic and Megaman seem to have virtually the same Up Special. Squirtle's Neutral was similar to Mario's F.L.U.D.D too.
Since when can't two characters share the same special move? How many characters have had a charge energy ball for a B Neutral, again?

I was being hyperbolic :P

Little Mac's trailer and the Peach daily pics weren't enough to prove this? :P

Zelda's model is based on Twilight Princess, her moveset is mostly based on OoT, and her new move is from Spirit Tracks. Screw continuity! :P

Man, that multi quote button rocks :)

Both are good points.

1. The Samus/Little Mac could've been a one off idea but the Pikachu/Ridley bit confirmed it for me.

2. I guess I should have been more specific and said Sakurai is master of story continuity, since he tells little subtle tales with his imagery. Zelda's moveset is supposed to be more or less a distillation of the character I think, so it draws from multiple games which is consistent. Link is harder to say that about since he has had the same basic stuff in all games, though some aeriels are derived from Zelda 2 and now he has his Jump Smash from the 3D games.

Ganondorf on the other hand.. well we all know about him.

This is the fastest moving Smash thread yet...

And I still don't get the subtitle. :/

You can't play Final Destination in the "For fun" version

They're all pretty close, though. I'm really excited for all of them.

The online mode of SSB for Wii U will have subsections of "With Anyone" that's either "For Fun" or "For Glory." The For Glory one will be Final Destination (and iterations of it) only, while For Fun will have every stage besides FD.

My current feelings towards the newcomers, so far;

1. Greninja
2. Rosalina
3. Little Mac
4. Mega Man
5. WFT
6. Villager

Greninja has been the coolest surprise for me, so far, and playstyle-wise, Rosalina and Mac interest me the most. I'm still annoyed over the small number of new female characters we've gotten, however.

This is already more female characters than we got in Brawl.

Lower your expectations, seriously. This is Sakurai. Remember the stage builder? It was half-baked. This custom move set thing we barely know anything about, we were only shown a few possible examples. For all you know it could just be a selection of different options for each special move -- nothing that you customize yourself and can "make".

This post really reminds me of what I thought the stage builder was gonna be like pre-release when it turned out to be nothing like what I wanted.

I appreciate you trying to temper my expectations but Sakurai also didn't have Namco's best and brightest helping with the game with Brawl and Brawl had SSE and a terrible development schedule riddled with delays so I think we can expect more than you are thinking.

I would be okay with the specials being predefined & it's what I kinda expect. Doesn't mean some of those predefined moves won't be awesome fan servicy things like Samus getting powerbombs or Link getting Light arrows, ya dig? Oh, Got excited again just look at me, ha ;)

Here's my newcomer excitement list.

1. Little Mac
2. Mega Man
3. Rosalina
4. Greninja
5. Wii Fit Trainer
6. Villager

Villager looks like the only newcomer that we've seen that I don't think I'll like. That really sucks, as I love AC.

I'm still annoyed over the small number of new female characters we've gotten, however.
Two of the six newcomers are female, and Sheik and Zero Suit Samus have been separated into their own characters, so I'm not really understanding this complaint. Could always be more, but there's still characters left to reveal.

So after the direct the other day rank the newcomers in terms of most excited to least excited

1. Greninja
2. Mega Man
3. Little Mac
4. Villager
5. Wii Fit Trainer
6. Rosalina

Rosalina looks cool but her unique play style seems like it'll take a lot of effort to learn to be good with her. Greninja legit surprised me not just because I wasn't expecting him but because he looks like so much fun to play.

Mine looks like this:
Mega Man
Greninja
Little Mac (I love Little Mac with me being an old school gamer, but man Greninja really won me over)
Rosalina
Villager/Wii Fit Trainer

Maybe it's just me, but I see this more as a "Gauging interest" for an eventual smash 3DS tournament. I highly doubt everyone listed will sign up for the actual tournament.
It doesn't seem like it is for the purpose of gauging interest only at all.

1) Wii Fit Trainer: Still an absolutely brilliant choice that floored me - nothing too gimmicky but undeniably unique. And I like Wii Fit, which helps, of course.
2) Little Mac: The most deserving newcomer by far and he seems like a blast to play. Long overdue!
3) Mega Man: Also seems really fun and just handled with so much care.
4) Villager: No problems here and an interesting interpretation for sure - not really excited for him but glad to see his inclusion.
5) Greninja: He's growing on me, but he's still in the realm of "okay choice." Nothing to grab me, but I've been warming in general, so...
6) Rosalina: Nothing against the character - she's my go-to in Mario Kart and I'm a fan in general - but she wouldn't have been my pick for a Mario newcomer and her playstyle seems a bit too complicated for me.

Oh more lists?

1. Greninja/HeWii Fit Trainer
2. Little Mac
3. Mega Man
4. Rosalina
5. Villager

Greninja's absolutely an oddball pick and I love it because he's way too perfect the way they've represented him. WFT was an immediate favorite since they showed her, and finally knowing for certain that the male is playable makes it hard for me to pick between the two. Little Mac's a stud and looks fun to play, Mega Man seems perfect, and Rosie looks like fun but Luma looks like he might be hard to get a grip on. I'm least interested in Villager, which isn't to say I think he's boring or anything, just kinda... there.

It doesn't seem like it is for the purpose of gauging interest only at all.

I expressed interest in it before the list was a thing and got added, so for their sake I hope that's all it is.

Yeah I'm hype for WFT. Although Greninja and Little Mac look interesting.

I guess my order would go something like:

1. Wii Fit Trainer
2. Greninja
3. Little Mac
4. Mega Man/Villager/Rosalina

1) Mega Man is definitely the hypest newcomer for me, and as the champion of my all-time favourite series I imagine he'll be the one that I play the most over the game's lifespan, but
2) Little Mac looks fantasticly crunchy. I cannot wait to fling some jump-punches halfway across Final Destination online. I'm betting on Mac being high tier.
3) Greninja. Ninja types are generally pretty fun. ZSS / Shiek / Snake vibes are good vibes. A bit of Metaknight thrown in there too. Who knows, he might be broken!
4) Rosalina. I doubt she'll be any good, but I want someone to make her Stand mechanics work. I can never manage stuff like that, but it'll be interesting to try.
5) Wii Fit Trainer. Kinda basic as a character, not that interesting of a moveset, but solid.
6) Villager. Planting trees, grabbing projectiles, getting gimped while recovering? He doesn't look like my idea of fun. But we'll see. Not every character is for everyone.

1. Little Mac
2. Greninja
3. Wii Fit Trainer
4. Mega Man
5. Rosalina & Luma
6. Villager

Little Mac looks like a one-trick pony but he's easily the most unique character that is put into the new Smash roster so far. The top 3 in general are characters I genuinely want to play and experiment with. Mega Man is a character that looks great fun to play as if only because I get to play a Mega Man that controls exactly like Mega Man, but I don't think he'll end up being a mainstay for me. Rosalina & Luma look cool but the character doesn't really look to suit me. Villager looks... eh. He looks fun enough to use in fun free-for-all capacity but he looks too gimmicky for me.

1. Villager
2. Rosalina
3. Wii Fit Trainer
4. Greninja
5. Mega Man
6. Little Mac

The Villager's quirkiness and dry humor really do it for me. I'd love nothing more than to master him, though I'm certainly skeptical of his "viability." Rosalina's mechanics seem quite intriguing with lots of potential, and I'm kind of excited for her in the same vein as Villager of just wanting to figure her out. And Wii Fit Trainer reminds me of ZSS (my main) in a lot of ways, just with how agile I imagine she'll be - love that playstyle.

1. Mega Man - I am a HUGE Mega Man fan, and I love how far Sakurai has taken his moveset, it's just perfect.
2. Rosalina - She looks like a lot of fun, plus I already play the two princesses currently in Smash Bros. Might as well add the third.
3. Greninja/WFT - I like the ninja style, light and fast characters like Sheik and ZSS, they both seem to be in that mold. (Plus WFT has some much troll potential)
5. Villager - Looks interesting and fun, but I am not sure I'll be playing him much
6. Little Mac - Looks super fun, just not my kind of character, I love aerial fighting way too much

I am excited for all of them though, which is definitely a good job by Sakurai and his team.

1. Wii Fit Trainer (Unorthodox character that can buff herself to hit harder)
2. Greninja (Speedy ninja character. Newest character shown.)
3. Rosalina & Luma (Ice Climbers v1.7. Luma is not as controllable as people thought.)
4. Mega Man (Jump and Shoot Man. Zoning character.)
5. Little Mac (Specialized rushdown character. Claims of terrible recovery may be exaggerated.)
6. Villager (Overshadowed by all the other new people. Pocket is interesting and seems very, very useful.)

1. Greninja (Seems super quick and fun to play)
2. Wii Fit Trainer (I like yoga, plus she's just such a unique character)
3. Mega Man (All kinds of projectiles, I like it)
4. Little Mac (Unique mechanics, should be fun!)
5. Villager (I like Animal Crossing but he doesn't seem very interesting)
6. Rosalina (She better not replace Ice Climbers...)
