Ness is only not announced yet because they like pacing the reveals. Look at the melee to brawl cuts for example:
Pichu and Mewtwo. The franchise gained Lucario and Pokemon trainer.
Roy. Fire emblem lost a clone and gained ike.
dr mario: franchise lost a clone but had a billion other characters remaining.
Young link: Replaced with wind waker link. Still basically a clone but aesthetically updated.
It's no guarantee but the general logic seems likely to carry over. They haven't cut out a franchise after deciding it was important enough to represent. They might kill off some clones. At least Ness will remain to represent Earthbound
even if Lucas is superior.

So with Brawl they had two delays and didn't get in every character they considered (hidden 7 implies cut characters)
With SSB4 they're seemingly releasing the 3DS version a lot earlier than expected, does that mean they nailed the desired playable cast early enough to make an early release perfectly plausible?
Really curious what the final roster ends up like now that we know the 3DS version is being released this early.

Ness hasn't been announced yet because his announcement is going to coincide with a mother related announcement. Why else would they have that earthbound miiverse thing.
Mother 3 on GBA VC. Along with a Ness and Lucas double reveal. :3 But I want to see Cpt Falcon too...

Yeah I know. They did a complete blow out on items and assist trophies and newcomers movesets and stuff so the daily pics are so uninteresting now :|

No way they'll drop Ganondorf. He'll be unlockable is my guess.

I don't mind, there was so much good news for me in that direct that I'm honestly outright satisfied until the summer 3DS release.
It's still weird to still get daily shots after that enormous load of amazing.
Characters like him need a totally different moveset. I mean he was a cpt falcon clone that sucked. Interestingly enough we haven't seen Falco too, another clone. Or at least I really hope that's the case...
You can play handheld games at home. I'm pretty sure that's how the majority of people play their handhelds. The main draw is the unique games you can't play anywhere else.
If there's one thing I miss from not having Subspace Emissary mode it's the fact that I won't have a way to unlock all the characters in one fell swoop, assuming there are unlockable characters that Sakurai won't be talking about until after release.
If he's committed to leaving surprises for the players I'm going to have to lock myself away from the internet after getting the 3DS version and discover and experiment with everything on my own.
Please don't let there be a substantial delay between regions like last time.

Forgive me if it's been discussed, but the Smash Ball is an item right? So how come Rosalina is using her Final Smash on the Final Destination version of the Mario Galaxy stage?
EDIT: Oh, I guess you can just choose the FD versions as stages in other modes as well. Never mind.

Well, knowing the internet, I am pretty sure there are countless fan art of Akuma genderswaped and dressed as a schoolgirl out there.
My guess is that the original 12 Smash Brothers characters will appear in every Smash Brothers game so I would imagine Ness will make it.

Wario is definitely back, only concern is if they change his moveset.They took so long with Yoshi as they changed his posture etc so maybe they are doing similiar with him.

The odd thing about Yoshi is that they still seem to be reusing quite a few old animations, so his model(especially arms) looks weird at times...
I'm pretty sure they mentioned that it could be played online in the Direct. The IGN article also says that it can be played online or offline.
