Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

Anyone other than her as a Rhythm series rep would be a disappointment

Which is why I don't believe it but then again it's Sakurai. Chose a very nice franchise to represent in playable form, then chose the dumbest looking/uninteresting character to represent the franchise as a fighter. Eh, whatever, too many good characters added for Sakurai's shenanigans to work on me this time. Though I will be slightly pissed if we get no retro (I do not count Mac's alt as one).

I want he mile-high tap-dancing dudes

They'd actually make for a pretty badass assist trophy!
The original Space Dancers are superior.

Exactly. If Rhythm Heaven gets a rep (and it should my goodness yes please forever) it should be someone more visually and conceptually interesting. Marshal would work nicely, as would the Barista or just Rhythm Monkey.

It would be really lame for the rep of a series as quirky and ridiculous as Rhythm Heaven to be a generic karate dude.

Yeah, more visually interesting and more move potential.

If a RH rep is in I hope they have some moves like Marth's side B where you have to time it, seems pretty Rhythm Heaven-y.

Doesn't Greninja use swords as well?

Anyway, what does Marshall do? I only played RHDS
Samurai have so many styles and nuances to what they can do...that it's incomparable.

Takamaru has a ton of potential from being a samurai alone. The closest thing to a samurai play style in Smash would be Lyn, and she's an AT. Samurai Goroh just swings wildly so he doesn't count.

Generic karate dude should totally be an Assist Trophy though. He'd have the punch, roundhouse, and the multi-hit combo attack that should instantly KO. And random flowerpots and lightbulbs should be thrown on-screen simultaneously.

Oh does he? I thought he stayed blue and Pikachu turned gold. I probably have them backwards.

This is Super Sonic

The pikachu final smash he looks like this.

More on the immediate topic, Pac-man is pretty much the only character that I'm immediately against as a playable character. Everything about his current design is absolutely hideous to me, and I don't really know how to make him into a viable Smash character. I mean, I can think of a final smash and a Side B that would be true to Smash and the original game, but everything else seems really reaching. In the event he did get in, I feel like it would be one of those characters that was forced in because of Bamco, and not because it would actually improve roster diversity. As an assist trophy, I could be alright with that, but Pac-man is definitely one of those characters that did not age well with time. The only appealing game is the first one, and maybe ms. pacman. That is pretty much it, at least for me.

I agree that a WarioWare rep would be better than a Rhythm rep. My obvious pick would be Mona. It would be fun to throw pizzas on other characters with her.

The second rumor? I don't believe it either. Also, while I want some franchises to get more love in Smash (Metroid with Ridley, F-Zero with Goroh, etc), I want dead/retro franchises to get a rep and revival nearly as much. Takamaru, Lip, Mach Rider, they all deserve to be in Smash. Takamaru and Lip's themes even are in Brawl, so that means Nintendo/Sakurai at least acknowledge their existences.

clearly the lack of a proper representative for the rhythm heaven franchise simply means that they should use a character, or perhaps even set of characters, from a rhythm game franchise with more iconic lead roles

i'm sure nintendo must have something like that...

preemptive prevention of barbara the bat jokes here also donkey kong also mario ALSO HARMOKNIGHT GUY ALMOST FORGOT HIM

Are you alluding to the Elite Beat Agents/Ouendan? Because I always felt they should be an assist trophy rather than in some kind of character role. It would fit them much better - they're all about helping people in need, after all.

i would accept literally any recognition of the fact that the franchise is a thing that has at one point existed

He's not some generic karate dude. He's got his doodle look going on which they'd have to capture. And he's appeared in every single game plus his game is the first one you play in the first game. He's a very significant character in the series.

So about the E4 stage.

Has anyone considered we might get a boss on this stage? I could see maybe Mega Gardevoir attacking or something.

Rhythm Heaven rep would be tits, just not Karate dude, that'd be boring. It would be interesting if the attacks got stronger as long as you hit the enemy with a certain rhythm.

It would be nice to see Diantha in the background using Mega Gardevoir as the hazard. Although... Diantha is so boring. Why not the Elite Four members instead? Depending of what room you're fighting in, a different Elite Four member would appear with one of their Pokémon. Malva with Talonflame, Drasna with Noivern, the knight dude with Aegislash, etc. That would be cool.

Barbacle, Aegislash, Noivern, and Talonflame all sound like nasty stage hazards.

The DS version of Rhythm Heaven is by far the best selling of the three installments, and since they appear in promotional materials and on the box art, the Chorus Kids could probably be considered the mascots of the game:

Also, they seem really cute and charismatic here, and I could easily see Smash Bros. fans falling in love with them.

Just use the Tap Dance monkeys. Instantly you have all the different costumes you need.

Also Mii Plaza has a monkey hat to represent Rhythm Tengoku so it makes sense.

I was just thinking about the tanooki tail item.

We all know that Little Mac has this power meter for his KO uppercut.

Make this thing white and put a P on it and you got:

I'm actually amazed how many people actually like the idea of a Rhythm Heaven character. Seriously thought that'd be something a lot of people against. Huh.

Really? Damn I could have sworn he was white lol. Where did I get the white from?
Well, in Pokémon XY, Greninja's 3D model looks veeeery white-ish, specially in the 3DS screen.

At first I found the yellow weird too, since my first contact with Greninja was with the 4chan leak/photo of its in-game model.

I can see it being like a new Pokemon Stadium stage. Instead of the stage just changing between different pokemon type themes you ride the elevator around to the different Elite 4 rooms and face hazards based on water, fire, steel, and dragon.

That's a good point; the support trophy angle makes perfect sense for Ouendan. But on the other hand, Captain Kai is a total boss. I would absolutely love to see him playable, as unlikely as that is.

Smash fans are always full of surprises :P

If a rep from Rhythm Heaven makes it I hope its the chorus men. I don't know what kind of attacks Sakurai would give them (or him depending if it will be just one and not all three) but I'm not worried. The man's a wizard.

If the chorus kids show up, I kind of fear for Mr. Game & Watch though, since I could imagine them being a similar 2D style, only different colors.

Mr. Game & Watch is one of the funniest and most unique characters in the whole series, in my opinion. I hope he stays around.

Game & Watch's uniqueness isn't just down to his 2Dness. It's his animation and the inspiration of his moves. A Rhythm Tengoku character wouldn't take away from that. Also they could always be made three dimensional.

That's cool, I guess

I don't think they'll have much overlap besides maybe the flat style. Their movesets would no doubt be wholly unique.

I doubt that Smash Bros. will ever have a fully colored and detailed character in 2D. Game & Watch is a special case - since he's only one color, they can cheat and just make him a 3D model that's flattened down. For a more detailed character they would have to actually make some high-resolution sprites, and they would have to change a huge amount about how Smash models work - they would practically have to animate every thrown/grabbed animation, for instance.

It's the main reason why I suspect Paper Mario will never happen, as much as I'd like him to.

I really hope you can turn off the boss characters without having to get rid of the platforms on those stages. The bosses look really intrusive and annoying and the stages they've been shown on look like they could be fun enough neutral stages without them.

I also really hope Sakurai doesn't seen the Final Destination mode as an excuse to not include at least some more neutral stages beyond what we've seen. The Final Destination mode seems like it has its heart in the right place but is very misguided in this sense.

But Paper Mario doesn't use flipbook animation, he's on a rig like any other character.
