Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

GameXplain video mentioned something about replays camera control being able to be customized, but I don't think that should be taken as an indication of camera controls during replays

In Brawl, they also showed gameplay from various angles and such but in replays, we couldn't control the camera during replays at all. Maybe you could focus on one character in replays, but I don't really remember. I do remember that there was a hack to allow you to freely control the camera without restrictions in the pause screen and I believe it applied to replays as well.

I don't think they'll have much overlap besides maybe the flat style. Their movesets would no doubt be wholly unique.

I just hope that their moveset wouldn't consist of too many attacks of them yelling. I can see that getting annoying throughout the match.

I think it would be pretty cool if while you fight you only see one chorus kid, yet when you attack the other 2 pop out from behind him (since he'd be 2d).

But Paper Mario doesn't use flipbook animation, he's on a rig like any other character.
And his animations in the Paper Mario series are typically very simple. In Smash Bros. you'd need quite a few more animations - including a bunch of unique ones ala his single "getting hurt" sprite in Paper Mario - and I don't think the team would want to bother.

Uhhh, probably gonna regret asking this but ... wuts with this sudden Rhythm Heaven character obsession?
Some leak or another mentioned the "Chorus Kids" as a character and now everyone is jumping at the bit for the possibility.

I wanted a Rhythm Heaven character BEFORE it was cool. >:o

Assuming they're playable, I don't think the Chorus Kids will be 2D. Nintendo has depicted the Chorus Kids from multiple angles, so the Game & Watch treatment wouldn't really work. It'd also be way too jarring. Mr. Game & Watch is a special case since he's an LCD character from the '80s, but nothing about Rhythm Heaven inherently demands flat, hand-drawn characters. The Rhythm Heaven art style is very similar to WarioWare, but Wario and the WarioWare Assist Trophies have 3D models in Smash Bros.

I also really hope Sakurai doesn't seen the Final Destination mode as an excuse to not include at least some more neutral stages beyond what we've seen. The Final Destination mode seems like it has its heart in the right place but is very misguided in this sense.
People have been telling me that the Japanese competitive scene is very limited in terms of stage choice and primarily use FD, so I'm guessing that is the reasoning for Sakurai for doing that. I hope that he can change it by release or patch it in.

And who knows, maybe they'll get feedback from the 3DS version (which I have no idea how it will work since the NNID is not integrated into the system much unlike the Wii U) and change up stuff for the Wii U version if they aren't gonna do patches at least.

Who's to say the Rhythm Men would be 2D? They could be 3D for all we know. I agree though, they shouldn't hurt G&W's chances.

G&W is 3D as well, just saying they might use a similar effect for Chorus Men or maybe just a simple toon shader to make them appear flatter though. They will probably want to find a way to capture the thick outlines of the artwork.

Could look interesting either way, I hope that leak is legit

I can't imagine why Sakurai would think Rhythm Heaven deserves a rep more than Advance Wars and Golden Sun. I guess it could be one of those surprise characters.

Mhm, technically G&W is 3D as well. I could see it going either way for the Chorus Men. They seem like such fun idea so I hope that leak is real.

Hmmm, figured everyone would have so much new stuff to talk about that they wouldn't need to latch onto random rumors. O_o
Full disclaimer: the leak was apparently from the same guy who did the WFT/Villager/Mega Man/Little Mac/Mii/Pac-Man leak from a while back. Info here.

yeah, where were they earlier :P
I kept asking for Rhythm Monkey, kept noting how cool it would be, and no one would listen...

I mean, this is Smash Gaf. Random rumors pretty much is what keeps it going 90% of the time.

But I honestly agree with you. whenever I see rumors like this, I am immediately doubtful, because to me it sounds like everyone has cracked Sakurai's random "code" on choosing seemingly random characters. There were rumors flying about on a new Pokemon XY character, but next to nobody picked Greninja.

The point is, I think we are not as good in picking "definite characters" as we think we are~.

It was a 2nd rumor from Gematsu. 1st was the one that predicted WFT, Mii, Villager, Mega Man, and Pac Man. Before E3. This one said Palutena, Chorus Men, Shulk, Chrom, and X/Y Pokemon, which we got with Greninja. Also a day before direct

Most people arent as sure on 2nd leak, but it has more grounds to stand o than many others

This is just a minor compliant, but I'm a little bummed they went with the Poison Mushroom again and not the Mini and Mega Mushrooms from NSMB.

Rhythm Heaven getting characters into Smash is just one of those things that no one would think of but make sense given the personality exhibitied by both franchises. That being said Reporter > Rhythm Girl > Chorus Kids.
The Chorus Kids are still god tier though.

:P

The reason they went with the poison shroom and not the others is because if they went with the others nobody would ever accidentally debuff themselves.

The leak doesn't disprove any character though, it wasn't a comprehensive list of newcomers, both could still happen. BTW I'd say we get at least as much newcomers as we got in Brawl (18 iirc).

We only have 6 so far, so:

1. Villager
2. Wii Fit Trainer
3. Megaman
4. Rosalina
5. Little Mac
6. Greninja
---[leak]
7. Pacman
8. Mii
9. Shulk
10. Palutena
11. Chorus Kid
12. Chrom
---[/leak]
13. Ridley
14. Takamaru
15. Mewtwo
16. Isaac
17. Dixie Kong
18. King K. Rool

(Paper Mario, Advance Wars rep, Geno: I wish)

yeah, where were they earlier :P
Yeaaah, wondering that myself O_O

Ehhh, I have never been to keen on accepting that leaker's "rumors".

And for the record there's a BIG FAT difference between "X/Y Pokemon (which is the most logical expectation given we always get a Pokemon from the newest gen)" and "Greninja" If he had said Greninja or even "some blue ninja frog Pokemon" or even "some frog Pokemon with it's tongue around it's neck" this would have grounds for discussion and such. Even more so given that so many smash fans thought "weeeelll GF doesn't play favorites with starters so you can only get them in 3s like PT!".

To me his/ her stuff is just pandering to wut people expect with a few random-ish toss ins.

Pretty much this.

The DS version of Rhythm Heaven is by far the best selling of the three installments, and since they appear in promotional materials and on the box art, the Chorus Kids could probably be considered the mascots of the game:

Also, they seem really cute and charismatic here, and I could easily see Smash Bros. fans falling in love with them.
Yeah, this is where I'm coming from. It's the only game I played as well, and I know these three better than most of the names being thrown around.

The idea of a Rhythm Heaven character is super fun, but, y'know, rumors are rumors. I'd like to believe it given the source but doubt is holding me back.

Wii Fit Trainer.

Nobody but him guessed WFT on the whole internet. Goes to show it's not some random dude, it has to be an insider.

"Random-ish toss ins".

After ROB got into brawl WFT shouldn't be that shocking. But in the Smash echo-chamber it's completely random.

Also doesn't change the fact that instead of saying Greninja he just did a blanket "Pokemon XY" bit ... effectively taking cred for the most likely thing to happen regardless of which is picked.

About Rhythm Heaven chorus, it's not that I don't like them but I think that there are characters that deserve to be in the game more than them. They'd make a nice AT though...

And yet nobody else guessed WFT. We need to stop with the revisionist "well WFT wasn't THAT shocking..." stuff thats purely for the sake of writing off any and all rumors.

Yeah, I don't consider myself a competitive player at all but I really don't care for super intrusive stage hazards, but at the same time I don't like Final Destination at all. Hopefully Sakurai remembers that there are people who straddle the middle of that gap.

I can't imagine why Sakurai would think Rhythm Heaven deserves a rep more than Advance Wars and Golden Sun. I guess it could be one of those surprise characters.

Only one of the three of these is internationally popular.

Much as I'd like to see an Advance Wars rep myself. Sadly Lin, much like Lyn, has zero chance.

I would love to have the option to turn off intrusive stage hazard. I don't mind the FD styled stages, but it will get boring playing on a flat stage without any platforms.

If it were a popularity contest, I don't think Ness would have been in the first Smash Bros. When it comes down to it, Sakurai puts in characters he thinks are best fit for the game.

I don't think he is saying that it wasn't shocking, but just that after ROB, its not like there was never going to be anybody to pick something random. WFT was definitely out there, but it isn't the first time Sakurai has picked something so "out there".

About Greninja, it could be that he simply didn't know the exact pokémon, or that he isn't pokémon savvy.
