I think Sakurai will prioritize gameplay over "deserving" sometimes though, he clearly likes to throw a couple quirky characters in there. Might get boring if all choices were obvious, big characters.

I've got a perfect on every stage aside from that damn moai one.
It's the worst game in the series, but it is still awesome.

If you don't know the name then "Frog Pokemon/ Blue Frog Pokemon/ Frog Ninja Pokemon/ Frog Pokemon with it's tongue around it's neck" from XY would be a legit leak.

Also, very few people expected an XY Pokemon. The only popular one is Greninja, who people thought would work better as a team with PT.
There's definitely a degree of leeway for characters who are just plain interesting or have historical importance, but the roster is still Nintendo's who's who list at heart.
Right but the chorus is quite obscure. I've played the game but I didn't remember them. I didn't even realize they have a name. And well, WFT is more than enough as an obscure character.
It doesn't need to be only big names but characters like them can't stand out imo.

Don't worry it's not really true, pretty much on par with the other two, if not better.
I'm inclined to think that the first leak was only genuine in so far that the leaker saw some of the same trailers we did, ahead of time. That would explain knowledge of Wii Fit Trainer, VIllager, and possibly Little Mac. However, we still don't know if the rest is accurate yet. Furthermore, the accuracy of the previous prediction seems to contradict this latest leak. The most vague of the predictions in the latest leak (Pokemon from X/Y), turned out to be the first one shown to us. Considering that Greninja was shown of the very same day as the second leak, why couldn't the leaker be more specific? The leaker wasn't vague on any other prediction, they all gave specific character names. It feels like the leaker was hedging their bets on a safe choice.
I still think the leaker may have been someone who just saw some trailers ahead of everyone else (in other words, the leak come from someone involved in publicity or even from E3 staff, rather than a developer working on the game), then has since padded out the leaks with safe guesses. Palutena, Pokemon from X/Y, Chrom, and even Little Mac are all fairly safe, common guesses. The only out there ones were Wii Fit Trainer and Villager (who were announced immediately). The real test will be the most out-there suggestion: the Rhythm Heaven character.
So I am going to be skeptical of everything listed in the leak until we have final confirmation of the roster.

Going to ask why someone making a fake leak would be so vague on that one specific issue, but not on anything else? Also, it's possible his interaction with it came before it was decided that Greninja was going to be the specific XY rep. Like, maybe the leaker had heard discussions that they were definitely going to add a rep from X and Y, but at the time it was still being debated which one (At the time such a discussion would occur the starter evos wouldn't be known outside Nintendo, so they'd have to guess at popularity. Add to that the fact that all of them could work in Smash and I could see this type of issue popping up)
Aside from the bolded (which is a possibility, could be a second/third hand leak)... you're also disregarding the fact he posted the roster just before E3 and got 3 out of 6 right: they were announced a few days after the leak. He could have said Palutena, Chrom or some other more obvious characters, but he said WFT and Villager (basically disconfirmed by Sakurai himself long ago) and got them right, in a matter of days. You're also disregarding the fact he leaked to a website instead than to the usual forums and message boards, as if he feared repercussions if his identity was outed, because he knew he was right.

Yeah. I think the leaker is legitimate, but may not technically be working on Smash itself. The leaker probably found out bits and pieces of discussions, but its pretty clear that even if they're legitimate they don't know the whole issue. This might be why they listed 6 characters for e3- they knew that 6 were being considered to be shown, but may not have known which of the 6 or even how many of the 6 would ultimately be decided on, and thus they just shared all of them. If the leaker is legitimate, we still don't know when or how they obtained the information, which means we have no idea to what extent they know stuff or how dated the info is
Gotta say, my favorite is the original. It's austere but menacing and nicely symmetrical. Reminds me of a lot of 90s games.

Rob was a far more believable guess then WFT, after all we knew robs would be in the game thanks to the dojo and rob had previously been playable in Mario Kart DS. WFT has never appeared in anything outside the Wii Fit series it is truly a pick no one would have ever guessed. The leaker is legit of has some god tier prediction skills
I will give that the second leak may or may not be genuine, if he had said greninja then there's be no doubt it anyones mind, that being said outside of the RH pick none are super risky. If RH gets any kind of playable rep confirmed then this leak is truly 100% genuine.

Realization: despite all our fawning over Smash Wii U's Final Destination, we haven't the foggiest what Smash 3DS's looks like.
That's something that hasn't been discussed now that I think about it, actually. Are there any theories on what the Rally-X Flag does? I know in a lot of it's cameo appearances (one I recall specifically is Dig Dug: Digging Strike) it acts as a 1-Up. That'd be kind of broken in stock matches though. Maybe a single-player only item?
In the screenshots it shows Charizard using it, and the animation is the exact same as his AT animation. That's why myself and a few others think it could be an assist trophy for Namco characters.

Yeah, it wasn't my idea, but it's been discussed that it's basically a Namco-exclusive AT item. Charizard holds it in the same way he holds an AT in the one screenshot, after which point it presumably summons a Namco character, such as the aliens from Galaga.
Reminds me about the arguments against Dark Samus.

Greninja is the same color he was in XY. What you call "yellow" is really a sort of crème color. Check out his character render at smashbros.com -- it's in neutral lighting and looks the same as the Sugimori art. Now depending on the stage, of course, he may look different -- Pyrosphere, for example, makes his crème color a deep shade of gold. Lighting factors into how he looks. I think he looks fantastic.

Well, if the popular theory is that it's a Namco AT item that's cool too. Hm... that would mean Namco's prescence would be a lot larger than I figured it would be originally. I mean, Galaga AT and a few items + character is one thing. A special item that spawns any number of their characters? That could be exciting.
I've always sort of hoped against reason that Namco's Valkyrie might appear, but if this is the case she might have a bit of a better chance. She's rarely ever missing from Namco's crossovers.
