I think its better defined as extreme emotions as love or hate, and etc, than just "emotions" in general...
Let's be brutally honest here. What is the benefit for me as a poster to follow this recommendation? The reason people stick around in threads like these is because it offers a better experience to them, while if they run off to the KLK thread to talk they run into incessant moralistic whining or if they want to discuss the new SM anime in an OT thread you run into pedophile accusation talk like most threads outside Community these days. You keep talking about "should" without considering actual incentives, as if cause is completely detached from effect, and decry "insularity" when the entire forum itself is based upon it through its registration and membership process. This is supposed to be a forum for nerd interests, but there's a high degree of anti-nerd sentiment that has run unchecked on the overall forum despite some mods best efforts and intentions. The current forum structure possibly emphasizes this.
Now, if this came with an assurance to help maintain the posting environment in such OT threads, then we'd be onto something. As it is, though, it's like asking kids in a warzone why they don't play outside, while the existence of threads like these are why I still frequent this forum.
To be clear, I'm not expressing a fundamental objection, only a practical one.

We seem to have a fundamentally different way of looking at how things are.

This show seems to have too much si fi world building going on and not enough genuine character interaction. That wouldn't be a problem if it didn't feel like that the characters weren't just spouting epic science sounding phrases that seem convoluted just for the sake of itself. I think that long ass launch sequence summaries this show nicely: Visually interesting, but so long and unnecessarily complicated that at some point it loses its impact and I just stop caring.

After all the hype I'm honestly just shocked at how boring the first couple of episodes were. Nothing really offended me, it's just from the art, to the world, to the characters, everything just screams dull.

I'll admit I was a little worried about the animation budget when the opening (the song itself is awesome) was literally just a montage of scenes from the first episode, but the match with China was awesome, and the art while it takes some getting used to really pops in that scene.

It's an otome game adaptation. You really don't need much of a story besides a bunch of guys and a girl in some random setting!

I mean if someone thinks there's a potential fanbase for whatever, an otome game could pop up.
I mean there's one where you date the Knights of the Round Table, 18th century detectives, etc, etc.
The sky's the limit.
I think we hammered out the points we needed to over IRC, but I just want to note in thread that I don't actually think the rest is a warzone, only that it can be with certain subjects and more importantly can appear to be as such for certain people. This isn't meant to be despairing, as I do think things can be improved upon. I just don't think it's productive to ignore such issues when wondering why people post the way they post.

I think it's fair to say that certain types of threads aren't for everyone, and it's definitely true that some people would be better off avoiding certain types of threads due to personal reasons. What I'm against is the suggestion that posting anywhere outside of certain "chosen" megathreads is a great way for the forum to function.
We all love anime here. Well most of us maybe. Some of us love to hate anime maybe. I'm not sure! But either way, I think it benefits everyone to support individual threads about anime more, simply because it will also help balance the representation of what people who actually consume the medium think about certain things with regards to it. If everyone who likes a topic holes up in a megathread about it, and then complains that people who post in threads about the topic outside of the megathread don't know what they're talking about, then WHOSE fault is it really? It's ours because we don't engage and don't exchange views!

Posters can only do so much, since it only takes one obnoxious poster to ruin things for many decent posters. (Speaking of which, you might want to investigate holykael in the FF thread or whatever I'm overhearing complaints about.)

Well, I think that's pretty intentional. Showing off the contrast between these seemingly mundane characters and all of these basically "supernatural" people.
Also, Simon is the best character in the show.

Had no idea what this show was about. Loved how the MC is basically a silent protagonist and every other character acknowledges the fact she doesnt talk at all. It's just like a real RPG!
And that was basically the highlight of the episode. Rest of the show is terrible fanservice with a pretty boring setup for a story. And being a GONZO show and based on a Korean MMORPG there really is no hope for this show on any level. You can already feel the cheapness in the first episode.
Might as well have called this show Queen's Blade and Soul. Dropped.

imho OT's work best when it's a show with a very popular genre of anime or long-running series. Shonen action shows having OT's work great because fans of those tend to have to many things to say. Gundam isn't a genre, but if somebody made a 'whole encompassing Gundam thread' (if it doesn't already exist) it'd be popular as all hell. I have very little interest to post in an OT for a show I barely care enough about or it doesn't have enough episodes to be impactful for me as a viewer. I post in gaming side to discuss several topics with very little sense of community, I come to this thread to talk about anime and talk to you gais about other interests as well. All as a community.

So far this episode was enjoyable and better than the first episode. Animation so far is really great especially with the magic activation and I just love that opening and even the ED too even if it was slow. But I got to say I was really satisfied at the end when that bastard Vice President ate crow and it was funny.
