The Dark Knight Saga has the best villains.

Seriously, they are impeccably cast, written, and acted. I'd go more in-depth, but seriously, they are fantastic. I don't think any comic book villain has really come close to the sort of menace these villains pack. Loki comes close, but he's not in the same league. Winter Soldier is cool, but he's more of a Terminator-esque cipher. For the most part, they translated the essence of these characters without losing any of the menace. Hypnotizing. I think even Bane before the Talia twist is just fantastic. Even after the Talia twist, Bane was still awesome.

Plus they deliver those killer monologues so well.

If Nolan's Bat-films have taught us anything, it's that Nolan needs to cut the bullshit and follow his real passions. The guy needs to reboot Police Academy already.

The great thing is, after Eric Roberts, Tom Berenger, and Matthew Modine, we know he'd actually bring back Steve Guttenberg.

Neeson is awesome because he's Liam Neeson. His character isn't particularly great though. I feel like BB and TDKR are almost unrelated movies to TDK, because the first and last have this ancient conspiracy angle that is kinda wierd and out there. It's part why I feel like TDK is the strongest in the series.

what has better villians then? Spiderman 2 with Doc Oc?

Doc ock was a very good villain. General Zod in man of steel probably deserves a mention. Loki is good as a villain in Avengers but possibly better as an antihero in Thor 2. Magneto in Xmen is untouchable, great villain. Deacon Frost in "blade", there's tons if you look around. And winter soldier wasn't even the villain in Cap2, come on now. The actual villains are much more compelling.

Doc Ock is gold, love Molina in that role, where is he now? Haven't seen man of steel, Loki is kinda getting old for me as a villian but enjoyed him in Avengers. Magneto is pretty good, though I dare say : Fassbender > Mackellan? I feel like Fassbender had more emotion in his Magneto. And I would have never thought of Blade, Deacon Frost is ok, but nothing extraordinary.

I like McKellen/Fassbender Magneto and Bacon as Shaw and Nicholson's Joker. Devito's Penguin and Pffeifer's catwoman. Also I like Spacey as Lex but it's not nearly as good as the original Lex played by Gene Hackman

Ian mckellans magneto I think is better, if only because he and Patrick Stewart play off of each other so well.

Fassbender is a better actor, but James mcavoy doesn't have the same kind of onscreen chemistry.

Winter Soldier spoilers:

he didn't have a whole lot of on screen time, but its obvious that Arnim Zola was the real villain of that film. The sequence where he is introduced, then explains what has happened, and how HYDRA has already infiltrated and compromised the highest levels of not just shield, but the government itself was the biggest "oh Fuck" moment in the film. Zola made it clear that HYDRA had already won. The world we're living in with constant fear and mass surveillance was their creation.

I agree with this.

Four or five of them crap over the entirety of the rogues gathered in the Marvel film universe... with maybe the exception of Loki.

No. No he doesn't. He wasn't even as good as Zod in Superman 2.

Depends which superman 2 you're talking about. Donner cut Zod was a competent badass. Lester's cut turned all three kryptonians into comic relief.

Edit: the motivations for the two are wildly different as well. Superman 2 Zod was the typical "rule the world" supervillain. MOS Zod's motivations were more complex and easily superior.

Ledger's Joker still hasn't been topped by any villain in comic movies. That is a fact.

The supporting casts great in those movies, it's nice how he was a real talent for selecting roles.

It adds a level of verisimilitude and gives the whole setting credence.

I think generally Batman trilogy are the only superhero movies with well written and acted characters. Anything else is either mediocre or coasting forward based on charisma alone.

The Talia twist ruins Bane. He goes from being son of ras al ghul, was born in the pit and climbed out as a child, leader of the league of shadows... to some guy that helped talia escape as a kid and now is friend zoned or a bodyguard or something. He doesn't really do anything after the twist, but it kind of ruins repeat viewing for me. Regardless, his monologue while fighting Batman the first time is sinister as hell. So many great lines. "Victory has defeated you!"
