Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

every gen ive selected a water starter, so seeing him in the game makes me very happy
I've been flip flopping between fire and water starters every game. First set of games are fire types while the third version is a water type.

I will say I'm excited to play as Greninja in Smash. More so than Charizard.

Speaking of Greninja, what would be the easiest way for me to obtain him in Pokémon X (without starting a new file)? Had I known he'd be in Smash Bros. I'd have chosen Froakie instead of Fennekin. This is my first Pokémon game in over a decade, and I don't know anything about those newfangled features like Friend Safari.
If you choose a Chespin in the beginning, you get a Froakie after you beat the elite 4 I think.

I recall getting a Chespin when my starter was a Fennekin.

Or you can go to the Pokemon XY community threads and I'm sure someone can offer a trade.

Now that's a roster I can get behind. Although I'd drop Duck Hunt for someone else.

Same here. I would love to see Duck Hunt but I don't mind to see Takamaru taking that spot as well.

Well, I can trade you a froakie if you are interested enough to get one from a trade.

I don't know. The Phantom is included as a specific reference to Toon Zelda. I feel like if Toon Zelda was playable they would have at least tried to reskin Zelda's version of the attack as something else to try and keep the characters a little bit unique. Sort of like how Link has the Gale Boomerang but Toon Link has a normal boomerang.

Din's Fire, Nayru's Love, and Farore's Wind are specific references to OoT, yet Zelda's model and final smash are references to Twilight Princess.

What would Toon Zelda's moveset be if she were to be unique? Probably just 4 different Phantom attacks.

There are 4 different kinds of phantoms in Spirit Tracks that Zelda can possess:

yMt0yN0.png

Phantom: Plain ol' phantom. Can attack with its sword and carry Link on its shield like a platform.

swFQ0w6.png

Wrecker phantom: can turn into a boulder and smash through obstacles.

dkIbSnv.png

Torch phantom: flaming sword lights dark rooms and can be used to light torches.

4zmPxvG.png

Warp phantom: can warp between specific points in a dungeon.

Neutral B: Phantom Spin: A regular phantom appears and does a spin attack that blocks projectiles and does damage to enemies.
Side B: Wrecker Phantom: A wrecker phantom appears, turns into a boulder, and rolls across the stage wrecking everything in its path.
Down B: Torch Phantom: Essentially Zelda's Phantom Slash but with a torch phantom.
Up B: Warp Phantom: A warp phantom appears and teleports Zelda in any direction.

So, how will C stick moves be mapped to the 3DS? I'd imagine that could be a problem having to press two buttons for it.

The C stick seems to be more for the competitive players, and I highly doubt the 3DS version will have a large competitive focus. And like it's been said, touch screen makes the most sense to me, even if it's more cumbersome than having a second stick.

Guess were just not getting a C stick =P manual smashes only for the 3ds version.

Well the most I can think of is maybe holding down either L or R+ any direction for a quick smash?

Also, reading some of the past pages I keep reading about tekken characters. I think I remember reading in a interview that Harada does not want any Tekken characters in smash either. I could be wrong though.

IIRC the C-Stick was actually originally designed for players who have trouble executing Smashes. That was me when I first played started playing Smash, eventually I was able to do them manually but I've always stuck to using the C-Stick most of the time.

I guess the point I was trying to get across was that if there is only one version of Zelda in the game then they can give her moves that reference multiple incarnations of the character. If OoT Zelda and TP Zelda were separate characters in Smash I wouldn't expect them to both have Din's Fire since the move wouldn't make sense for TP Zelda.

wat?

every causal smash player i know uses the stick more than manual.

And I hang out with competitive players, the ones I know use manual most of the time.

Wonder trade, there's usually some Frokies' out there in the wild.

Oh really? The only people I know who use the C stick are competitive gamers. All my friends (and me until fairly recently) never used the C stick. Maybe we're the strange ones.

I know I'll be lambasted for this but I'm just glad we're getting another Smash Bros. game on a console with a good D-Pad as standard for a change.

From 3DS release to Wii U release sounds like a good amount of time.
I agree with these conditions too Terrell

Wouldn't it suck for you both if the Wii U version got delayed. ;)
But agreed.

... I'm going to have SO MUCH FUN figuring out what you 3 are going to be branded with.

I changed my roster around a bit.

4bczwz3.png

There are 7 post-Brawl newcomers, 7 “old” newcomers, and 2 guest newcomers. I tried grouping related games/series together.

The Gematsu leak has me curious about Shulk. How different from Ike would he be? Surprisingly, YouTube doesn’t seem to have any compilation videos of his various Arts.

I can't help but feel this roster is going to be rather blank by the end of it all.

It's really up to Sakurai at this point, but I could see Shulk taking the 2nd Fire Emblem spot, to include and validate the good work done by Monolith Soft as part of the Nintendo stable and keep FE from being over-represented just because of prior history, but I dunno, it's such a toss-up.

And agree with others, the lack of Takamaru is rather disheartening.

You most definitely are the strange ones. The C stick does powerful attacks with zero effort, of course most casual players use it :P

It always seemed cumbersome to have to switch to a different stick when my thumb is already resting on the A button. Does anyone actually have trouble executing smash attacks with the control stick? I don't ever remember having a hard time with it.

And as far as competitive use goes, I was referring to things like using the C stick in the air for quick back aerials, helping out with SHFFLs and the like.

I looked on YouTube, here's Shulk's Monado abilities in one video:

If I had to guess, his specials would probably be Buster, Speed, Shield, and Cyclone in a Smash Bros game.

I know I might be silly but I think his chance is gone since Greninja is in the game now.

How many of you wanting Takamaru:
1) Knew who he was pre-Nintendo land.
2) Played his original game?

I knew Takamaru for good amount of times so I would like to say but I'm not sure tho. I think it was before Brawl got announced or so. My friend had a copy of the game so I tried for a hour or so. I'm eager waiting for VC release of that game for NA so I can finishing up the game for good.

C stick is used by casuals, yes. But its used A LOT more in competitive play. A casual would use it for smash atacks, a smash player can do everything with it. I think that i am aware about its more basic uses outside of smash atacks (why using it instead of the "a" or "jump" buttons sometimes) but i dont play competitively, but someone here could make a list about all its posible uses, please?? :P

oooooooooooooh that's pretty.

replace bowser jr. with K Rool, though. there's no way kremlings are in the game and k rool is not playable.

About the C stick talk, how do you do charged smashes in melee?? I first move the C stick and then rapidly hold the z button :P (i found it funny when i discovered that you could do them that way. I mean, if you only just played smash with friends... why would you know that you can do that?)

Ninja and samurai are actually sworn enemies, according to most historical and fictional literature. They'd share few to no similarities.

I played the original Famicom Wars when I was still in elementary school in the early 90s. I'll let you guess how well I knew about this game and how long it took me to get my hands on it.

I'm also led to understand that the Japanese have wanted a sequel for about as long as US Kid Icarus fans had been clamoring for one for him, if not longer.

Man, watching this game and playing it are two completely different experiences.

When I'm playing it, I'm always thinking about what moves to do next, looking at the cooldown time of attacks, making sure I'm positioned right, etc.

When I watch the game, all it seems like are a few characters shouting the same thing over and over again. Definitely NOT a spectator game.

It really isn't but the same can be said for most RPGs. I had a similar experience with New Vegas.

I feel different, I don't like Xenoblade's battle system that much but watching gameplay of it always makes me want to go play it since I love the visual style and the OST.

I have the opposite problem. I've been playing Smash since the first one, but I always end up pushing the stick too far and doing a Tilt attack instead of a Smash attack. :( I'm too impetuous.
