Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

Black Knight would be a great boss, but I think that because he wasn't a boss in Brawl, he won't be one in Smash 4. Which is a shame, considering Fire Emblem is now (or should be) considered of the same importance as Star Fox and Metroid to Nintendo.

</Fire Emblem bias>

Well, I'd assume they'll have a console-based FE level in the Wii U version. Might be the perfect place for the Black Knight to be a boss.

I liked Brawl better than Melee but not because of how floaty it was. I liked it better as a full package, the floatyness and lack of hitstun was a negative to me but everything else it added balanced it back out (I'm not a competitive player so they didn't ruin the game to me). This is why PM is easily my favorite of the series though.

See, and I don't even know what hitstun means (I mean, I'm not a troglodyte, I can puzzle it out, but I'd never have noticed a difference between Melee and Brawl if it didn't get talked about so often). I mained Lucas, who, if I recall, is like second to lowest tier. I just like the pretty colors!

Oh, no, I'm just playin' around. I guess that wasn't very clear... oops.

I really did like Brawl better than Melee, and it seems like most posters on here feel the opposite. I don't feel judged or like I need to defend my preference or anything, I'm just proud!
I really don't want to continue this beyond this post, but with that post, it seems to be the opposite.

Some ideas suggested by GameXplain (who in turn got them from fans, I believe):

- What if Ice Climbers are announced to coincide with the April 24 release of NES Remix 2?

- What if Meta Knight is announced May 2, the U.S. release date of Kirby Triple Deluxe?

- What if Ness is announced on Mother's Day (second Sunday of May in both U.S. and Japan)?

- What if Wario is announced on May 30, release date of Mario Kart 8?

What if? What if? What if?

I approve. Speaking of "what ifs," what's the current speculation about what a "summer" release date really means? The first day of North American Summer is June 21, but I get the feeling Nintendo has its own ideas as to what "summer" means...

Going back to the boss discussion, Mecha Hawk should be a boss on the Pilotwings stage, with the planes circling him and him swatting at the planes, giving you opportunities to hit him. :-P

I don't actually expect this, but it'd be fitting since Mecha-Hawk stomped around Wuhu Island under certain unlock conditions in Pilowings Resort (great game, BTW).

Also, I'm really looking forward to PW64 music in the Pilotwings stage. Don't disappoint, Sakurai!

It's going to be interesting to see what this looks like on Charizard or Bowser:

It's possible but I think it's unlikely - he wasn't in Castle Seige and as above, the more obvious choice would be the Awakening final chapter
Grima
fight as a boss battle.

Personally I'm hoping he'll be an Assist Trophy so he can make the jump to playable in Smash 6.

This is the one I'm expecting to happen the least, simply because I think ness will be unlockable.

Are they only announcing characters that are available from the get go? I guess that makes sense, I just didn't think about it. Dang. That makes the roster kinda massive, doesn't it? If we have this many characters announced and haven't seen any unlockables...? Sheesh.

There could be a few mistakes here, so take look at it with some skepticism. You should hard refresh if they don't start jumping at the same time for you (Ctrl+F5).
---------------------------------------- Brawl ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Smash 4 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Project M ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Melee -----------------------------

Total frames (brackets indicate amount of frames right before landing animation):
Brawl = 53 (50)
Smash 4 = 45 (43)
Project M = 39 (37)
Melee = 39 (37)

Frame that second jump starts:
Brawl = 16
Smash 4 = 16
Project M = 15
Melee = 13

Another thing to note. They all start falling at the 23rd/24th frame (Melee seems more like 22nd/23rd frame).

All 0.03 seconds per frame (30ms/frame)

It isn't a different GIF, but I still feel the PM one is missing a frame.

This measures fall speed assuming the jump heights are the same. And it clearly isn't, but still interesting to see.

Good stuff. I was hoping someone would do this sort of analysis. I appreciate your posts on the character movesets too.

Really, how?

Samus leaps high in the air and falls great distances. The heels appear to have spring-like or piston-like properties that can help her jump that high and cushion her falls like shock absorbers. They remind me of Chell's boots from Portal and Raiden's high heels from MGS4.

I dunno, it started with a random "BUT I LIKED BRAWL MORE" post.

That was me! [Beating a Dead Horse] And it was a joke... well, the content was real, but the presentation was a joke about how defensive people can be about that sort of thing... and it fell flat, I beg your forgiveness, SmashGAF.

Jet-thrusters for mobility and shocks to absorb fall damage. The latter being the same reason Raiden wears them in Metal Gear Rising and Chell wears them in Portal.

She could do that already with her SPACE BOOTS.

granted their the varia suit space boots but still
.

The high heels was really jarring for me when I first saw her, it just seems so unlike her. Especially given how close to detail Sakurai pays attention to characters.

Even her suit seems a little off, nothing like the canon metroid or metroid prime series...

Chell's didn't look like high heels though, they looked like shock absorbers. I agree it's just the tiniest bit silly that Samus's rocket boots have to look like high heals, there's really no logical reason for it.

But some people like it. Not that there's anything wrong with that. </seinfeld>

She's not wearing Space Boots when in her Zero Suit, as you say in your spoiler tag. It makes sense she'd try to compensate for them with these heels. The heels allow her to jump and fall the same as she would in the Varia Suit.

Eh, chalk it up to Samus being from the intergalactic future, where function doesn't compromise form!

Too morbid for me. :-[
