Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

OK, so here's the refined pitch for Chrom incorporating other characters as his specials, similar to Zelda with the Phantom Slash:

B -- Robin appears at Chrom's side, fires a blast of magic, and disappears

Forward B -- Frederick dashes past Chrom on his horse, swinging his broadsword

Up B -- Sumia lifts up Chrom with her pegasus, while jabbing with her spear

Down B -- Lissa appears at Chrom's side and heals him with her magic

Credit to Fredrancour for many of these ideas.

...maybe even more characters could be implemented into his normal attacks?

Is that... Stephen Spielberg in a Mario Bandana with... a prison tattoo?...

Why, yes. Yes it is.

Lissa, Frederick, Sumia and Robin definitely make the most sense for Chrom if he has a Phantom Slash-style move that summons other characters for his specials. They form his core group (and Sumia his canonical wife).

Do they, though? Samus having super-strength thanks to DBZ-style training from the Chozo is probably the saving grace in this situation. That strikes me as the kind of tech that would immediately break the legs of anyone unfortunate enough to try it on without being turned into a super-soldier.

Yes, they do. They look like they would augment her jumping abilities. They are springy.

I can't wait for Prime 4 to have more Space Pirate logs where they tried reverse-engineering the space heels and just ended up ripping their legs off.

They've considered it:

Although Lucina deserves better, Chrom's Final Smash could be either an Aether combo with Lucina or even having Chrom/Lucina team up that can utterly destroy anything for a period of time.

Can we payoff the games at Gamestop yet, or do they still need to be given an official price in the system (for those who may know)?

Guys, you know Chrom will just have a Marth-like moveset :P
Yeah....

So this is how you make Chrom really broken: the assists are all persistent until hit! Lissa spans heals, Frederick joins you in dual support maneuvers, Tharja has homing lightning that strikes down like Pikachu's thunder, and Sumia flies around throwing spears, flying down to pick you up any time you fall!

However, you only get to summon each character once per stock! Woooo crazy!

For Chrom's specials, other Fire Emblem characters are incorporated in similar fashion to Zelda's Phantom Slash. Like built-in Assist Trophies, they appear onscreen in an instant, complete a move and disappear. They can be neutralized by moves with greater priority, redirected by counters or pocketed by Villager.

  • Neutral Special -- Robin -- The Tactician appears in his male form, casting a ranged projectile spell from his magic tome. Charge to unleash multiple projectiles in an arc.
  • Forward Special -- Frederick -- The Great Knight dashes forward astride his horse, striking down foes with his broadsword. Continue to hold and he'll double back for a second pass.
  • Up Special -- Sumia -- The Pegasus Knight and Chrom's canonical wife lifts him into the air with her pegasus, serving as a recovery move while also using her spear to attack.
  • Down Special -- Lissa -- The Cleric and Chrom's sister appears to heal him in a ray of white light, slowly reducing his damage counter the longer Down Special is held.

If you're gonna have Palutena in the caption, you have to make it so that SmashGAF will freak out about her chances!

Fine

Sakurai: "PoTD: Here's Chrom and Lucina performing a final smash against Mario, Lucina, much like Palutena from Brawl will only show up here. But Palutena no longer shows up for Pit's FS, now does she?"

Yet only a fraction of what could appear in a match with Assist Trophies set to Medium, let alone High or Very High.

It'd perfectly encapsulate the concept of a Lord as a leader. And these characters, in particular, constitute Chrom's closest friends and family.

And for his final smash, Emmryn falls from the sky and hits everyone with random regalia.

.....No

Chrom x Olivia

Final Smash is like Ike Climbers but a Chrom/Lucina team up.

lol yes and in turbo mode.

so that means an epic fakeout for one PotD right ;)

PotD: Joining in to help Chrom's Final Smash is Lucina! She can be heard yelling: "I challenge my fate!". It seems she doesn't like being a Final Smash all that much.

I'd be up for that. He will finally be an interesting character. heh

The man makes like 500 detailed models just to collect as trophies. I do not think he cares.

Not unless it is My Avatar, which it won't be.I don't want to play as some little white haired kid.

You raise a good point - Awakening had 3 model sizes for small, medium and large and that would affect the hitbox if you could change them. Not to mention the customisation for the hair/eye colour, style etc would be require more effort than a simple palette swap.

They could just keep Robin hooded, but then you wouldn't be able to alternate between male and female Robin.

It's not a matter of gender or anything for me, it just seems like a weird choice to literally shoehorn in extra aerodynamics via space heels. I mean sure, she had those weird Zero Suit Wedges in Other M, but I'm just not a fan of the design. I think Raiden's heels are pretty weird, too - it might be an existing trope, but justifying space heels with "other people who can jump high have worn them" without any further explanation doesn't really do it for me. At least with the "heel" in that Space Pirate Heavy concept, it looks like it's more firmly rooted into the armor / exoskeleton of the entire lower leg, rather than specifically being rooted in the footwear.

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of buffing ZSS as an individual character and making her a Kick Chick to boot, but heels just feel like the wrong way to go about it. She's starting to look too Space Barbie with this new design.

This is what alt skins are for, I.E. Wario Land Wario and WarioWare Wario, modern Little Mac and arcade Little Mac, female Wii Fit Trainer and male Wii Fit Trainer, etc.

For what it's worth, the same also applies to the Animal Crossing villager. My only hope is that the BB shirt shows up as one of his alt colors. The "avatar" character option has appeared in several Fire Emblem games by now in various roles and played a massive part in what's arguably the biggest entry the series has yet seen.

If you want some other character that represents FE's history more adequately and are trying to avoid another BHL, why not Anna?

Did you just become a member? Grats if so.

Hooded Robin still won't be the right size. I would rather not have him in. It is awkward.

Also, @ theprodigy: Megaman has 4 models made just for his final smash. I think this Chrom idea is reasonable. Will it happen? Probably not, but it'd be awesome.

It's less an issue of making the models, which can be borrowed from the source material and cleaned up, and more that all four summons have to fit in RAM simultaneously without sending him over the memory budget for a single character.

feel free to laugh away! :P

*zoop zoop*

It caught me off guard and would be random as hell, any FE talk is good talk though.lol

And on the topic of ZSS's heels I'm ok with her design. She looks great and when we get our hands on the game the last thing we'll be worrying about is how her heels look.

imagine a 4 Chrom match dropping frames like crazy
