A life raft kept an aircraft cabin from depressurizing.
Just wondering, is that impossible?

The early standalones had this "cheap '90s syndicated action-adventure show" feel to them (same problem Terra Nova had) and it just wasn't right.
What cheap '90s syndicated action-adventure shows are you talking about.
You know there syndicated action-adventure shows that are considered good.
If a show was "cheap" it had to compensate by being imaginative, or having someting else that made people come back.
SHIELD almost never felt cheap as in I always felt like the show could do what they wanted to do. Maybe some one-sided camera angle when Ward and Fitz werer undecover kinda look strange or cheap.

It should get sucked right out. Plastic bends.

I wasn't saying that those series were bad, necessarily, but as a show airing on prime-time network TV, that's not the type of production values or storytelling you should be echoing. Alias is a much better example of the type of show they needed to ape and the show improved as it started to embrace the spy direction more.

My favorite standalone episode had to be the Peter MacNicol episode where he plays an Asgardian. I might be biased because I like Peter especially since I loved him in Numb3rs as well. There's a few other select episodes that I remember well but they all had some pretty amazing things about them.

That episode might have been a little out of the ballpark but still...

why would you show a commercial with spoilers for the episode you're replaying in the middle of your replay?

It should get sucked right out. Plastic bends.

After the initial explosive depressurization (hard word to spell)
the pressure difference between the inside and the outside would be small.
The pressurized outer ring of a raft could provide a stable enough skeleton,
and the bottom of the raft, should be made of some elastic but durable material.

I am not saying it is possible,
because I frankly don't know,
but it does not look outright impossible to me.

This show takes place in an action movie universe, where people survives falls and kills that should kill them, so I think an extra durable raft (on a plane from a technologicaly advanced organization) is fine imho.

On the other hand, the whole Lady Sif and the item selectively being sucked out was outright wrong to me.
But I don't know much about air streams and sucking forces.

Well, in that case I can only say that I don't share your line of thought.
I don't think a show's timeslot and broadcaster should dictate a look and feel.

Didn't many of those 90's syndicated shows air in primetime as well?
I ask, because I don't know, I don't live in the U.S.

Funny that you mention Alias, one of my favourite shows.
Because, like many people say about SHIELD,
you could actually skip more than the first half of the first season of Alias (until Q&A), before the first game changer happens and it gets really good.
But I guess Alias' pilot was much better received than SHIELD's

They didn't air in primetime, they aired as cheap programming for syndicated networks like UPN that didn't have a "real" prime time lineup at the time and relied on re-runs of network shows and movies. The worst moments relating to the show's feel was when it slipped below even the syndicated action show level and went down to almost feeling like Power Rangers or other live-action kids shows - that shot of them all lined up walking into the base was horrible.

My favourite moment is still the sacrifize from F.Z.Z.T.
I really enjoyed the episode, and it was kinda quite until that moment.
Colson's quite moment with the fireman was really nice as well.

are you not familiar with advertising for TV shows?
U.S. advertising.
At least while I was still regularely watching TV, German advertising was never that aggressive, not that I mind.

Oh, that was a sad part of the episode. The lead on episode following that was quite sad and really made me feel for the team.

But, really, The Well is one of my favorites. Definitely a strong episode. Has alot of heart in it and definitely some good backstory.

I wasn't there, but wasn't UPN a broadcast network from the start, like the big four, just not with enough affiliates to reach the full nation?
Didn't they have full primetime programming from the start, just not on weekends?

We both avoided to give examples so far, but when you said cheap 90's syndicated shows I was thinking Hecules & Xena, Relic Hunter, Honey I Shrunk The Kids, Lost World, Air America, Baywatch and Star Trek TNG & DS9, though the later definitely were not cheap.

Maybe you had a totally different kind of show in mind.

which shot are you refferring to?

Those are the shows - Star Trek was clearly on another level from the rest of them, though. UPN started as a bunch of Paramount-owned stattions that eventually went from shared ownership to actually banding together to launch a primetime broadcast network programming slate after WB had success with theirs.

I think it might be the one where they rescued Coulson from the desert lab when he was with Raina?

Your one complaint is the whole team trying to save their boss? Whilst Hand is too busy taking a strike team to a Centipede facility which is not even close to located where Coulson is?

Would you rather it have been a strike team instead of Coulsons crew?

Oh, no, that's not the issue. They did a Power Rangers type shot of them all walking across the field in a line together . Looked absolutely ridiculous.

They have clearly started to address the issues with the action on the show, it's noticeably improved since that first batch of episodes.

Not as ridiculous as the episode called The Women in the Red Dress. Where we first meet Rayna. That episode had so many cheesy moments including the funneling of the explosive stuff out of the stack of the building.

The episode where Coulson is rescued? Actually rather tame and not cheesy as you'd like to believe based upon that one shot.

Love the call backs.
